Chapter 3 - An interesting case

"Evolver- beings of supernatural might, first appearing after the Great Fall 500 years ago. Today they have become much more commonplace and diverse. The nature of their existence is one of volatility and insanity. In order to secure the stability of society that is becoming increasingly more supernatural, the bright minds of generations past have dedicated their lives to devising a way to counter act such individuals and beings. Through their research they have created the Evolver injections, allowing the regular person to become an Evolver with a smaller chance of going insane. The injections..."

A man with short silver hair covering his small and, in this instance, particularly sweaty forehead sprung out of his classroom. A brown sweater covering a linen shirt tucked into his navy-blue trousers giving the impression that many would find it hard to mistake his vocation for anything other than a professor.

'First things first, I need to leave my lecture papers in my cabinet quickly and find something to bite even quicker. I don't want to waste even a moments time in going to the HQ. I heard something interesting has happened!'

The professor's hurried breath could be heard rolling along the corridor in tandem with his attempts to move his legs as fast as possible, as if even a second spent doing anything else would spell disaster for him. The matter at the HQ igniting such a burning curiosity that he even considered not holding any lectures today.

"Oh, good day Mr. Emell! I heard you were reappointed for..."

In his state of fervour, he failed to notice his fellow colleague, and walked by him like a man walking by a blade of grass.

'What's gotten into him? If you feel I'm not worthy of looking at then fine, don't, but don't get ahead of yourself, you're not the only one to receive recognition for your work.'

At this point the professor was long gone to notice his existence, let alone Mr. Baxter's festering displeasure. By the time he reached his cabinet his skin was shining with beads of sweat and shirt had long become untucked during such erratic movement, relegating his appearance more to an escaped animal than a dignified professional.

...

In Marf street meanwhile, in a tall building with its entrance shadowed by two rows of marble statues. The left row of statues had human torsos, the legs were that of goats bent backwards, the heads were that of howling wolves, arms replaced by wings of an unknown animal. On the right were statues with human heads showing a jovial expression, skinny legs and arms hugging their face, while their torsos that of pigs.

This was the main headquarters of all eleven Evolver safety and stability divisions, in the center of which was a massive office surrounded by wooden totems and where three people were currently in serious conversation.

" Sir, this is unlike anything we've ever seen before. A boy ripped open with holes to just come alive is unprecedented. Along with the fact that a spontaneous evolution happened under our noses is even worse." - Said the leader of the third division grimly. Nicknamed Enveloping Ice; captain Fjoroft Morost.

"Yes, it seems a peculiar case has appeared..." The general director of Evolver affairs Safir frowned and said deep in thought. "... yet we don't know enough about it to properly judge the situation. We should wait for Krell to come and properly analyse him."

"If only that man could deign us with his presence instead of wasting time, we might've already been in a position to understand something already..."

" Calm down Dernek it's fine. We still have time for that and while we wait, we should ask him a few questions ourselves anyways."

" Interrogation? I presume Mr. Morost will be handling that?" Dernek, the General director's right- hand man threw an inquisitive look towards the middle-aged man with dark blue hair.

" Indeed, I have already told my lieutenant to be ready to act. I just need to make the call."

After a quick glance at the second- in- command, Fjoroft shifted his eyes back to Safir.

" You're as proactive as ever Fjoroft. You have my blessing to start." Ordered Safir without concealing his approval of his subordinate's quick actions.

"Yes sir!"

White, white was the only thing Bultear could see when he fully opened his eyes. With a headache he slowly looked around, when his vision sharpened out, he saw a white room surround him. A metal jacket with markings enveloped him as he slowly came to a realization that he was imprisoned, his body rendered fully immobile. Only a murky, grey metal door was in front of him, everything else was fully bathed in white with nothing of importance in sight.

'Peace and quiet finally... ' The first emotion that bloomed in him was not fear nor uncertainty but relief at finally being left alone to his thoughts, to fully digest everything that has been happening without interruption.

'I can't believe what I just went through. What was that dimension I was floating in? I have no clue what that voice was either, it kept telling me how I've somehow evolved. How on earth did that happen? I literally died... wait.' As the thoughts along with clarity of everything sunk in, an integral question popped up.

'Why am I alive?... Where is Sigmund? The voice said that he is connected to me. Did he save me somehow? A regular plant turned into a monster, so it wouldn't be far- fetched to guess that Sigmund also became something like that, but instead of attacking me, he saved me? If so, then did he defeat it and run away? The first thing I saw when I woke up were strange men in coats taking me away... Oh no! I hope they didn't do anything to him... I'm worried now...'

Through the forest of ever-growing thoughts, he suddenly heard clanking of keys. The metal door slowly opened with a screeching sound; his field of vision was greeted by a sight of what looked like a twenty- something year old man whose blond, silky hair that reached his neck injected some color into the pale white room. The silence in this room of imprisonment was broken by an unbefitting greeting.

" Hello buddy my name is Pax! I hear you've gone through some bad stuff lately. Why don't we have a chat, it might make you feel better."

To the beaming smile, and to the friendly greeting Bultear could do nothing but cast an incredulous gaze at him and think:

' What's up with this guy?'
