Bultear's eyes met a pair of blue marble like, as if on canvas painted, eyes smiling down at his restricted, tired body. His breezy smile contrasted a deep, booming voice while he spoke.
" Hello buddy my name is Pax! I hear you've gone through some bad stuff lately. Why don't we have a chat, it might make you feel better."
"Hello, I'm Bultear"
" Are you tired?" After taking a couple of steps the blonde man, Pax, asked softly. Approaching slowly to show his friendliness and willingness to help him.
" Do I seem tired? I don't know... I feel confusion more than I do fatigue."
" I understand you want to know; it must've been turbulent. The problem is my friend, we also don't know the exact details of what happened to you. So, I suggest that we get to know each other. You tell me about yourself, and I tell you who we are and what we do. How about it? The more info we have the better you and me both can get a grasp of what happened."
" You look like some official organization to me... If it helps... I wouldn't mind cooperating, but before you ask me anything else, I have an extremely important question to ask you."
" Of course, my friend, ask me anything."
" When you were there did you happen to see a dog by any chance? He was at the same place as I was."
The smile on his face slightly lowering, he gazed at Bultear curiously.
" Dog? *hmm* No, we did not see any dog there, only you and the plant."
" I see..."
Bultear's hopeful expression immediately crumbled and was replaced by worry.
" Don't worry we will make sure to find him." His smile seemed to radiate infinite warmth.
"I just don't know how much of what I know can help you. I barely remember anything."
' I'll keep the dimension a secret for now, who knows what'll happen if they find out. I myself don't even know what that was.'
"That's fine, as long as you try your best." Hearing Bultear's response Pax brandished an even bigger smile, came closer and sat on the floor next to Bultear.
"This is a very scary position you find yourself in, not fully trusting us is normal. In my opinion, a good rapport is built on trust and the willingness to open yourself to the other person. So let me start first.
Just like you said, I am a part of an official organization called E.S.O.P. It was formed 400 years ago by Esoph, our first leader. He had hoped that with the forming of this organization the rampant wars and deadly clashes of frenzied Evolvers would be reduced and, in the future, totally eradicated. So, he did, as you see now society functions nicely. The last major war that happened was 56 years ago. "
Pax could not hide the passion and love he had when talked about the founder of E.S.O.P and his legendary achievements. The fervor in his voice rising with every word slowly started to have an effect on Bultear. His eyes focused on him, taking everything in like a student would from a teacher.
" The biggest problem that we have now is the cases of spontaneous evolution, Evolver cults and Evolver frenzy, though Evolver frenzy is tightly connected to the previous two."
" Is that why I am imprisoned... did that plant thing have something to do with the things you mentioned?"
" Bingo, you catch on quickly!... you see my friend, that plant is what we call an Evolver. Beings such as those plants that have spontaneously evolved are extremely dangerous, they love nothing more than killing and devouring. As such we here in E.S.O.P exist to eradicate such creatures, to serve and protect the general populace. Which leads me to you my friend... you see... we are currently weary and confused. We, as we are now, can hardly do what we're meant to do..."
The more this man, Pax, talked the more everything made sense to Bultear. Even though him talking this much without asking was a bit confusing.
'I thought this was supposed to be an interrogation. Well maybe he wants to lower my guard. Honestly, the only thing I think I'm keeping a secret is that dimension I was in. Everything else is ordinary.'
As Bultear formed a plan on how to act, he couldn't help but be slowly interested in Pax's story. Listening to him with even more focus then before.
"... So, by helping us you help innocent people you know."
" I understand, I'm ready to cooperate."
" Fantastic you're great!... Now tell me, what do you do for a living?
" I'm a janitor at Emsdor academy."
' Interesting he works at the same place as Mr. Emell' Thought to himself Pax while maintaining his friendly smile.'
"What was the last thing you remember?"
" Going to feed Sigmund, walking down the steps and seeing the monstrous plant. The next thing I knew I woke to the sounds of footsteps and unknown people taking me away."
"Sigmund is the dog you asked me about, right?"
"Yes, I named him that, he was a stray. I saw myself in him, he reduced the boredom and melancholy in my life."
Memories of the golden-haired dog and of the moments they shared wrought a heavy feeling of sadness to Bultear. He began to talk of his own accord, unprompted by his exceedingly nice interrogator.
"It must've been rough."
The culmination of stress and worry heightened the emotional instability within his mind. " It was very rough, first I get attacked by a monster, get filled with holes trying to save the only friend I had, then I get transported to a weird dimension with a bunch of lights and a voice that talks about some candidate or whatever. After all of that I find myself locked in here... I'm just tired I can't take it anymore!"
The Bultear of now was basically screaming, shaking, his teeth clattering. As Pax the lieutenant of the third division heard this his eyes narrowed. After the interrogation had gone on for a few minutes to ascertain whether Bultear knew anything more. Suddenly he stood up, walked to the heavy metal doors and left a scant few parting words to a distraught Bultear while maintaining his smile that sadly, the shaken Bultear could not notice was without any prior warmth.
" Thank you for your cooperation, you were of great help. Now rest..."
