The island was barely recognizable from when she had first set foot on it. Mobile floodgates encased the lagoon, protecting it not only from possible tsunamis but also unwanted attacks from the sea. Both the underground and the shore pier were currently being modernized. At the same time, the island had been hollowed out to create comfortable nesting grounds for the Deepsea Kelpies that had been driven from their homes. Bit by bit, the Nissen huts were replaced by modern, insulated houses.
