Chapter 51 - A Grave Mistake

I arrive at the scene of the attack and seems like they've began the firefight without me.

"Alrighty then, my turn." As my exosuit activates and I pull out Inferno and began my assault through the garden area.

They're a bit stronger than before taking a while to be cut down than usual. But the Armor piercing bullets of the drones are using do work against their armor from the looks of it. Mowing down as many soldiers there is a piece of cake when it comes to clearing out any simple enemy that comes my way.

Though I was surprised how they were different than before. It's odd this is very peculiar... Are they enhanced or something? I sliced an enemy into pieces to check if there's anything different.

From the looks of it nothing. They're still pretty much human, then the next possible answer is that they're juicing. Using performance enhancing drugs to increase their effectiveness against more powerful enemies.

While I was busy fighting off the more competent guards reinforcements came to aid them.

"Great Cavalry arrived." And they are using smaller mechs as vehicles.

This just got interesting even more now. Surprising they're still developing mechs after that failure of the original design of theirs. Well they managed to make it smaller and more compact but this time its not remotely controlled it has a pilot that controls the bloody thing. This makes it easier to take it down.

Giving a killer machine, human controls makes it flawed and vulnerable. I used Inferno's special edge to slice through the thick and now paperweight mech of a cavalry. They're quite mobile for manned mechs.

I continued fighting through the easy guards that surround the area where I found the first VR Machine so I quickly took it down by continuously slicing it and melting it with white phosphorous to finish the job.

But that's just 1 out of 5 machines.

"Damn, they're really quite spread out."

"Vaughn you there? All of the students have safely escaped. As much as I hate to see my hard work go to waste, I give you permission to go all out Vaughn destroy all of them." Said Maestro over comms.

"Thanks for the heads up there Maestro." As I head towards the annex buildings and saw more reinforcements and some mech units waiting for me there. I charged forward fighting one by one shooting their rifles with no hesitation of full auto onto a moving target no far from 5 meters from them.

They're really are mindless soldiers probably result of their own VR Conditioning. Though what's annoying is that they keep coming. Was there a mistake we did in planning we didn't expect this much reinforcements.

"Maestro how's it going for you?" As I talk while I'm constantly defending myself from the waves of enemies seemingly unending for some reason.

"I don't know Vaughn they keep popping out of nowhere any changes of plans? We might run out of drones before we could force them to back down." Said Maestro as he controls most of the drones.

"Prepare for Plan C, when I say the orders you guys escape and erase everything we have leave no traces okay?"

"Sure thing... You really thing we might have fucked up at one part?" Said Maestro.

"No, its not just one part... It's the whole damn thing." As I see a wave of mechanized soldiers coming to my way. I twist the handle of Inferno to go to its overdrive function.

I breathe out as I remember what I was taught about how to kill people. Digging through my past is a hard thing to pull off knowing that I only remember the pain that has caused me. But it's the only way I could survive these waves of enemies.

I can feel the weight of Inferno just disappears from my hands as if it's weightless. Heart rate is going faster, pumping harder, flowing faster. Breathing becomes heavier and heavier as my muscles compresses focusing its energy into forces enough to kill a man.

The blade is light, the blade is air. Aim for the neck, down to the torso, then diagonally from the person's left shoulder to their lower right of their torso. You have a machine connected to you Vaughn. Take advantage of that mobility, swipe the blade left them quickly right.

Ignore their faces leave it blank so you wouldn't be guilty on whom you killed. This is the state I never knew I would be in again. But this is the fastest way for me to kill hundreds of soldiers and mechs along the line of sight within my reach. Efficient kills makes it easier to prevent the person from being rebuilt again by the sick people in the laboratories.

I can remember the feeling of being a tool again. I shouldn't stay in this state for too long or I lose myself into endless slaughter again.

"Having second thoughts Ripper?" As a familiar voice I hear from a distance.

"Miss Lightning... Was that your reinforcements? Or was just chump change for you to expend." As I look at her dead in the eyes standing on the rooftop of the annex building.

"Your armor looks like it got upgrades. Feeling tougher now?" Said Natalie as she crosses her arms with her sword seems to be armed and ready to roll.

"Why don't we take this somewhere quiet then?" As I shrugged while looking at the messy and bloody place that is what is the annex grounds.

"Quite the attitude for a stone-cold killer. Anyways the rooftop should be enough of a quiet place for the two of us." Said Natalie as she tries to intimidate me.

I jumped to the rooftop Natalie was pointing at for us to have our fight under the identity of Ripper.

"Well then, you finally understood why I didn't end you during our first fight?" She looks fierce than usual seems like she really wants this rematch.

"Are you done talking?" Said Natalie as she's getting impatient.

"Getting a bit impatient there missy. That behavior could lead to your death you know."

"Talk big this is the last time you'll say it." Said Natalie as she unsheathes her blade with a powerful aura on it and visibly you can see the electricity running through its edge.

"I guess so. Let's dance Missy." As both of us engage our protector guards on our faces.
