Chapter 17 - Her secret investment

Adah woke up late that morning with heavy thoughts which seem to make her remain in bed. She turned on her phone and got messages of missed calls. She went through the list and discovered that both her parents called as well as Lily. She dialed Lily's number, Lily picked up the phone, and from her voice, Adah knew that she is just waking up or the tone of the phone may have awoken her. They discussed at length outlining everything they want to set out to do. Adah promised to take her to the new office so they can begin operation skeletally along with the others she promised to introduce to her on Monday, the first working day. Lily complained of a car to which Adah apologized promising that it will be made available on Monday at resumption. work. They discussed other things as friends with Lily not wanting to see her until Monday. She hung up the phone and discovered that they have spoken for more than an hour and a half and smiled. She quickly looked at the time and prepared for her gym session and with her phone, she left for the gym. She met some of the mansion workers who could not help but stop to greet her. She opened the door to the gym and entered feeling a little bit uneasy about herself. One thing is certain, exercise is good for greatly relieving stress and at a time like this, this is what she needs now. She busied her mind and after the weights, she pounced on the stretches. She continued tirelessly and after completing her yoga exercises, she decided to call it a day at the gym. She was surprised to discover that almost two hours have been far spent. She hurriedly cleaned herself up and took a late breakfast. Feeling a little bored, she went to her balcony that overlooks the beautiful garden. As she sat on the cane-woven chair and looked at the beautiful landscape and flowers, she remembered Munah and tried to push the thought away but cannot. She smiled to herself as she recalled the uneasiness between the two of them, his insight into matters and reserved way of making her take her own decisions, especially the right ones. Even in the office, his professional way of dealing with matters that some departmental heads have already warmed up to him. Many times he had intentionally delayed and often postponed meetings, especially the unnecessary ones. He knows when she is tired and can read her like a book. Adah sat there in total thoughts allowing the morning sunshine to fall on her delicate skin. The smell of the flowers seem to reassure her nerves while the whistlings from the sparrows that fluttered about seem to interject nothing but hope to create nothing but heavenly memories as she sat there. The gentle breeze from destination unknown blew on those long strands of hair which seem to have life revived and renewed as the strands like the birds fluttered down to her shoulders and back. The beauty of the environment seem to come alive again as the slight intensity of the sun increased. The sunshine is what Adah has to love and appreciate so much in these parts. Unlike in Essex County where four hours of sunshine is most experienced and this comes with great expectation from the average populace of the small town.

She missed Essex. Her flat and all. Her cars and neighbors. Essex is one city that she will ever live to remember. The culture of the town and infrastructure is quite top-notch but the nightlife of Essex is nothing but horrible, especially during winters when the snow falls without mercy. At times, the populace experience snowfall up to the knee level making local authorities announce a sit at home, especially during those terrible weather conditions. Though she likes it there but right here is even better. She remembered her little investment and wondered how it may be fairing. Miss Kelly is a trusted friend from high school and together they have come up with a plan that had snowballed into a little cottage company. Miss Kelly at the last financial had cried herself out because of what the auditors posted. The investment can now boast of five employees but when this adventure to come back started she had handed over all administrative work to the lady. This little investment is her secret for even her father is not aware of it in any way.

The breeze now seems to have increased the gentle tempo of its rhythm and sweet fragrances now filled the air. The gentle dance of the trees and daffodils seems to thrill the birds that continued to sing and chirp excitedly. The peace that the view of the garden exhumes makes one wonder if such beauty is not drawn out from an exotic magazine. The garden is one of the places where flowers were used to call out beauty and elegance. The wonderful little park and garden is also a venue for some exotic parties of the Denson's. Showing off is Lady Denson's masterclass, during parties it seems that the heavens have come to feast with the earth. The decorations are always spot on but now a show of natural beauty is what meets the eyes and in this state, beauty is said to have seen its limit. Adah removed her eyes from the beautiful scenery, she wondered why Palm springs wanted to partner with her? Palm springs are purely a Spanish investment and thank goodness that Munah knows them like the back of his palms. She knows that Munah will be shocked at this news but it should be a detailed discussion between the two of them so that a new line of action can commence. As his thought crossed her mind again, she realized that she cannot hold her emotions towards him any longer. As she stood up and walked into the room, she decided to be creative with her time. She was about to commence when she heard a knock on her door. The housekeeper entered informing her that Munah has arrived and is in the lobby. She gave her the instruction to bring him up to her wing and prepare a table for two.

Munah entered her living room and smiled to himself in wonder at the arrogant and exquisite display of wealth. He admired the walls and ivory doors that were decked in gold and heaved in wonder. He smiled again as Adah appeared and the housekeeper disappeared leaving them together. She walked up to him and smiled, she wanted to fling herself in his arms but she restrained herself and pointed to the couch. He sat down and relaxed fully before Adah adjusted her hair.

"You are a little bit late, she remarked with her eyes on him

" Yes, my mother had an emergency this morning. I almost lost her but thank goodness that we acted fast. She is now stable and is responding to treatment." Munah said almost in frustration looking back at her.

" She will be fine and well. I called because we visited Palm springs." Adah started softly.

" What about them Munah said sitting up from the chair.

"They want to pay you the commission since you brought me to them. Moreover, I called so that you can send your details to them and the payment forwarded to you." Adah said looking at him. He was speechless for a while before standing up and walking towards the window that overlooks the beautiful garden. Adah stood up and followed him immediately. He turned to face her and not knowing what to do held her hands tenderly in his saying nothing while Adah remained with him allowing him to hold her hands.

"Thank you Adah..." he said almost In a whisper as he looked at her brown eyes.

"On Tuesday we will sign our first deal with them as partners. They insist on partnering with us." Adah said looking at him intently as he smiled but she can still observe that he is disturbed. She observed fear and confusion in his eyes and expression.

" We will begin plans to fly your mother abroad for medical attention," Adah said trying not to look at him as he became mute.

" I can see she means the world to you. Please do not say no. I just want to help and make you happy..." She continued and was surprised when he embraced her fully. She allowed him and not minding anything again around herself, she clasped herself to him." Thank you again, Adah... you are an angel, " he muttered and for the second time, he called her name which seemed like music to her ears. They remained like that until he moved her to a nearby couch and they relaxed on it.

" She has kidney disease. Though it is not serious earlier now the disease is spreading according to the doctor." He explained while Adah noticed that he had been crying before this was time for his voice to be husky.

" It will be alright I promise. She will be flown abroad and you need not be worried. We will make every preparation for her so that she will be fine." Adah assured.

" Let me tell you that I am not only afraid for my mother, I am also afraid because of you," he said softly but meant every word. Adah's heart skipped a beat but she remained as before.

" You are the only child of one of the richest men in the world. You own everything and even control part of the wealth of your family. How can we be together? There is a huge gap between us... I am a nobody. Please tell me what do you want from me?" Munah said as he watched her refrain from their togetherness. She stood up and turned her back on him as if hiding something from him. She was never expecting this question from him. She had thought that she is only the one going through all the heartaches but never knew that he is as well going through some soul searching too. This question fully attests to that fact and because of this he has been withdrawing from the truth and may be lying to himself.

" Adah please tell me for I am confused. I know what you told me through that kiss that we shared for it will only take a stupid fellow not to understand, I am afraid... " Adah heard his voice again and sighed deeply. He stood up and went to her, she can sense him coming towards her and as he embraced her, tears dropped from her eyes. She allowed the tears to roll down and held his hands as he embraced her from behind.

" Please allow me to cry. For years, I have held back these tears. I have only consoled myself with the fact that my joy is close. Why has it taken you this long to come to me?" Adah said in a whisper that is only audible to his ears. He kept mute sensing that she wants to finally pour her mind out.
