Chapter 3 - Hostility to Hospitality

There it is....Auralion the city of the best aura mages known to man and beast. Jerilu summed up the kingdom for me along the way.

A kingdom that bases itself around the power called aura. They've built many schools to teach any race the power of aura. As of late however they've grown extremely hostile to visitors. Having very strict rules with anyone containing a powerful aura. Jerilu mentioned that the cause may be because of the appearance of titan.

Whatever the "titan" is isn't a being that exists in my world. When I asked Jerilu what it was he told me he didn't know much about them himself but that he knew they're colossal beings of destruction. He couldn't tell me anything more and told me to find a titan researcher if I wanted to know more.

As Jerilu begins to approach the city gate, soldiers begin to flood out. Dressed in light armor and weilding staffs and small blades.

I frown, 'battle mages are strong. If they decide to attack it'll be a difficult battle.'

"DO NOT MOVE!! IF YOU WANT ACCESS TO THE CITY YOU WILL HAVE TO PUT ON DEBILITATING CUFFS AND BE QUESTIONED!! IF YOU DO NOT COOPERATE YOU WILL BE KILLED!!"

The booming voice cmes from the top of the wall. The man standing there looks utterly terrified. As I take a closer look at the battles mages they share the same fear.

I raise my hands in surrender, "I'm not here to harm anyone, and I'm willing to cooperate."

Some of the mages are somewhat comforted by this but many of the others get more tense.

"PUT THESE ON IMMEDIATELY!"

The man on top of the wall throws down a pair of bulky cuffs with several aura and magick debilitating engravings.

'They really don't like me do they?' I have one of the other children put the cuffs on my while i put my hands behind my back. 'This should reassure then a bit more hopefully.'

The gates open and one person walks out. He looks to be pretty powerful, his aura is very big.

He walks up to me cautiously. "I've been sent out here to confirm your intentions. Wether you are trying to destroy Auralion or protect it will be answered by me."

I'm slightly confused by what he said. "You're able to figure out my intentions?" I'm genuinely curious, I didn't think it was possible. 'Nobody in my world could do that.'

He looks slightly proud of himself when I say this. "I am a master of lie detection magic! None of your lies will get past me!"

I chuckle a bit, 'He's pretty proud of himself, all the power to him I guess!'

He seems to forget about the situation we're because he starts to laugh at himself and tries to put his hand on my shoulder but quickly realizes I'm too short. He looks like he was about to do something else but finally realizes that he came out here for a reason.

He looks back at the battle mages, 'My bad everyone!" He gives them a hearty laugh.

They start to laugh with him and relax a bit. I look at the man with a bit of admiration. 'I'm surprised! He did that on purpose to relax them!'

He turns back to me with more serious look. "Let's get started shall we?" He puts his hands on the sides of my head and casts a some kind of spell into my brain. 'It doesn't seem like it'll cause any harm but just in case...activate damage protection.' I set up a protective barrier around my brain.

'I didn't realize this earlier but...does this guy know how to silent cast? What a remarkable guy! Smart, kind, and powerful. He could be a hero of his own if he wanted too!'

"First question, do have any harmful intentions towards this city or it's people?"

'I'm feeling mischievous...let's give them a scare!" I put on the best threatening face a kid can give, "Yes."

The mages immediately begin to chant and some of them charge at me with their swords. 'Wow, they've been trained well...absolutely no hesitation! Now can you please tell them I was lying? I don't want to fight them...'

The man in front of me holds out his arm, "Stop! He was lying!"

The mages practically fall over eachother, confused yet relieved.

I let out a light laugh, putting my hand out, "Sorry guys, I thought it would be funny to give you a little scare!" I continue to giggle to myself, while they glare daggers at me.

*Ahem!* "Second question. Do you you have any kind of correlation with the newfound Titan?"

"No, no I don't."

He nods his head at the other soldiers. He looks back at me, then takes a glance at Jerilu and the children. "I think we can skip the rest of the questions. They don't seem to be off any harm, and they look like slaves. I doubt their intentions are foul, but you..." He points at me "...Will have to remain under surveillance. I'll be your escort throughout the city from here on."

The mages drop their guards but stay in place.

"Now...what is your purpose in coming here?"

'You said there weren't anymore questions, sneaky but not sneaky at the same time.'

"Me and these children were being trafficked. I killed the men who trafficked us but there are many more. I have a piece of paper here with several other trafficking ring locations. I would like you to take care of these children and bring me to someone in power who can help me take down these traffickers."

Several of the mages scoff, but the investigator hushed them quickly. He holds at his hand, "let me see this paper." When I hand it too him he immediately flinches. He faces the paper back towards me so I can see it. "This just says 'go screw yourself'..."

I look at the paper, very annoyed. 'Why didn't I read it...and why would I think he'd actually go through with the deal. You're better than this Seiran...'

He tears the paper up. "Guess you won't be needing this anymore. Just follow me kid, you may be strong but your still a kid so I'll get you and the others a home, and uh...about the turtle-"

Jerilu snorts, "Jerilu, my name is Jerilu."

The investigator looks at me and then Jerilu and then me again. "Remarkable..." I hear him whisper under his breath. "Anyways we can't have a summon in the city so it'll have to leave."

As the mages begin taking the children off Jerilu the investigator uncuffs me.

I walk up to Jerilu and pet his snout. "Thank you for the help Jerilu, I'll be sure to reward you at a later date. Please wait until then."

Jerilu lets out a little laugh, "Of course Lord Seiran, please call for me whenever you need my help." He begins to fly away and then he plunges into the ground, becoming another part of the earth once again.

The investigator seems mesmerized. "This kid..." He whispers.

As he leads me into the city I see many people sitting in their homes, peaking out of their windows with fear in their eyes.

"We'll try our best to get you a...proper home but I can't let you meet any of our lords nor our king. Just go and live a happy life okay kid?" He pats my head.

Although I don't like being treated like a kid, it's nice to see genuine kindness. I can tell he's a good person.

As we walk to an orphanage I begin to think.

'I've been too calm...I've been sent to an unknown world and I'm a completely different person, yet my mind is the same. I still have the same aura and I can use the same spells...why? It feels so wrong, reincarnation isn't supposed to be like this right? Is it some kind of magic? Why me? What if I took over someone else's mind? If I did then where did they go?'

I clench my head, "ugh!" 'So many questions left unanswered.'

I try to strengthen my resolve. "No, I've been given a second chance to live! This time will be different! I have a chance to live my life to it's fullest!"

When we arrive at the orphanage a man and two women greet us. The mages and the investigator tell them that we're trafficking victims and I end up living in an orphanage.

"...huh, one second I'm flying on top of a turtle and the next I'm in an orphanage being told to go to bed. What a wavy road this has been..."

.

.

.

Time flies by as I live at the orphanage for going on a year, they have minimal teachings and most of the time I'm doing chores, but those are easy most of the time. My magick can take care of most of them.

Many of the other children get adopted, in fact all of the children I saved from the traffickers have been adopted! I felt extremely happy for them but was a little dissappointed about not getting adopted myself. Although I have the memtal age of an adult it still hurts. Many of the families are afraid of me and don't even care to look at me.

Although I'm fine with living the normal life. I enjoy myself as weeks continue to pass. Until...a family finally comes to adopt me.

A middle aged man and woman, accompanied by a younger boy are staring at me. Apparently the boy wanted to have a little brother and felt bad for me when he heard about not being adopted so he asked his parent, and they shared the same thoughts.

Things go smoothly and I end up getting adopted. Everything feels like it's moving past me fast and I'm greeted by a very big two story home near the castle. "Wow!" I never really lived in a house of my own back home. I was always out doing quests and helping people, I never had the chance to settle down and always ended up at Inn's or sleeped on the grass whenever I traveled.

My new human father, Norren. My new elven mother, Silica, and my new half elf, half human brother, Chuzen, smile at me.

They give me a tour of the home and eventually lead me to my room. We all end up going shopping to get me new clothes and all was grand.

'I never met my real parents back home, my mother died while giving birth to me and my father couldn't handle the pain of losing his wife so he...joined her. An elderly couple ended up taking care of me but they both died before I reached nine years old. I ended up fending for myself on the streets for awhile until...I met her...'

I'm snapped out of my thoughts when I hear shouting and music. Silica claps her hands together, "Perfect! There's a festival going on right now! This is the perfect time to bond! What do you say Seiran?"

All three of them look at me with wide smiles on their faces. I flash them a smile of my own...

"I'd like that!"
