Chapter 5 - Power, Recognition, and Slight Heroism

Black flames engulf me, I try to fight back but I barely have time to react. The boy starts to laugh, manically.

"This is great! Showing cocky beasts they aren't so tough is always so fun! This is karma you mutt bastard!" He sends more flames my way, I try to dodge but...it's flame so that's kinda hard.

'This guy really is something else, he could be using that for good but of course he isn't. For some odd reason this feels a bit...cliche.'

I continue to dodge his attacks (not actually dodging them) and send ice and water attacks toward him, but to no avail. His flames evaporate my water and his flames melt the ice and evaporate what's left too fast.

'Think of something! You're gonna lose here, and I definitely don't want to use "that" or the others. That'd just be bullying.'

He continues to sling his flame towards me. Each time I get hit his smirk grows wider and wider. '...Although I'd like to teach this fool a lesson, he might be having a bad day. Let's give him the benefit of the doubt.'

In the corner of my eye I see the girl he was fighting before, trying to get up. It seems he noticed this too because he immediately sends flames in her direction.

'Not good! I have a high grade ward on and can barely handle his attacks, she'll get hurt!'

I raise my hand towards her, two fingers pointing at her. 'Transfer spell, ward.'

The flames hit her and luckily don't do any major damage, but she was already hurt enough. Being scorched isn't going to help.

The boy seems to notice what I did. In fact he seems ecstatic that I saved her. "What're you gonna do now? You don't have anymore protection do you?"

He starts to walk around in circles, not caring to attack me. He begins to rant about how stupid I am or something but I don't listen in.

'I swear, these guys could be super powerful and cunning but make the dumbest choices. Lucky me I guess. Now there should be a spell I learned awhile back that involved demi-humans...'

I look down at my feet and then look at my hands. 'Come to think of it, I don't even know what kind of animal I am. I'm pretty small, even for a 12 year old...so maybe I'm some kind of cat? No no, this isn't important right now.'

He continues to rant. I see the girl starting to get up again but I signal for her to stop before the guy notices.

As I continue to think, it strikes me. 'Transformation magic!'

I start searching my memories desperately, trying to remember the spell related to demi-humans transformation.

'The skill that only demi-humans can use. It's a form of transformation magic called bloodline transformation. Based on which of the animal species your from, you transform into your most powerful form, using your beast bloodline at it's full force. It's basically like removing chains on your real potential and power.'

I look up towards the boy who seems to have slowed down his ranting but is still calling me cocky and calling himself 'number one'.

"Shut up."

He looks towards me, a vein popping out from hi forehead. "Your funeral!"

'Race magic, bloodline transformation.'

I feel my body morphing, it's the most disturbing feeling I've ever experienced. My bones are shifting, my flesh is twisting itself, and my body is shrinking in size, its a painful experience.

When I finally feel it stop, I can feel my aura grow significantly in power, my mind feels clear, my body feels very light.

'Somethings off'...I try to look at myself but a swarm of flame engulfs me. However I feel no pain, actually I didn't get hurt at all.

I look back at the boy, who seems a lot more worried than before. He starts to get nervous and starts throwing more flames at me. Even though it takes away my vision It doesn't hurt me one bit.

'Seems like I won't even need to attack.'

He finally stops throwing flame, I can hear him panting but I can't see him through the smoke. "Just give up, you aren't going to hurt me and you seem pretty exhausted. This isn't worth it, you'll just burn yourself out."

As the smoke clears I see him clenching his teeth. He's definitely pissed. "Shut your mouth you-" an ominous voice booms above us, "Enough."

I look up and see a woman dressed in a fancy black suit with a cape on her back.

I see the boy immediately stops his flame possession and gets on his knees. "Principal Yora!"

I look up at her, 'Principal huh? You don't seem to be doing your job well. This seems like a pretty high-end school so I doubt they would overlook the possibility of fights. Someone should've been here sooner.'

I start walking towards the injured girl. 'Now why would she come to stop a simple fight herself? Nevermind that's not important right now.'

"What took so long for you to get here?" I say in an aggressive tone.

When I get to the girl she's unconscious, 'Did she pass out from the pain?'

"Actually don't anwser that, I have my priorities straight." I pick up the injured girl and start carrying her towards the nurses office. I'm lucky I have a good memory, or that tour would've been useless.

The boy glares at me. "You insolent bastard! You dare spea-" I glare back at him. "Shut up, you have absolutely no room to talk!"

I look up towards the Principal one last time, "There should be no tolerance for this. This girl is severely wounded, and it could've been a lot worse if I didn't intervene. I don't care if I'm supposed to show you respect, do not let this happen again!"

I start walking away but just as I turn to look away from the Principal I see a grin on her face, but when I look back it's gone. I click my tongue and continue towards the nurses office.

.

.

When I get to the nurses office the girl is still unconscious. The nurse doesn't seem concerned whatsoever and tell me to put her on one of the infirmary beds.

The nurse tells me to sit by until she's done treating the girl. I don't know why but I comply.

'Did I overreact? Agh I feel embarrassed now. What if I get kicked out? What If Chuzen gets in trouble because of what I did?'

*Sigh*

The nurse walk over to the girl and outs her hands above the girl. 'She's about to cast! This could be a good time to get a healing ability! Observation magic, observe aura flow. Mind manipulation, mind reading.'

The nurse begins her spellcasting. "Body manipulation, reverse wounds." The cuts, burns, and bruises begin to slowly fade away and patch themselves.

I feel a massive headache coming on, and my aura feels a lot weaker. 'Huh, it wasn't so bad this time. Last time I used those two abilities together I fainted, It was worth it but I wonder why I didn't this time.'

As if she read my mind the nurse turns to look at me. "You do know you're still transformed right?"

I look down at myself, I have a lot more fur than usual. It's not just at my feet, and...'I have a tail?!'

I spot a huge mirror on the wall and rush up to it.

Almost white fur with a tinge of orange is coated over my whole body. I have huge canine-like ears, 3 fluffy tails, long claws, and my face is that of a fox. "So I'm a fox?"

The nurse walks towards me, placing a hand on my shoulder. "A fennec to be exact. If you take another look, your still extremely small in frame unlike regular fox transformations."

I look back in the mirror. 'I am...actually I think I got smaller when I transformed now think about it. Beast forms always fascinated me back in my world, now that I can use demi-human's bloodline magic, I feel amazing.'

I look down at my hands and sigh. 'Bloodline transformation, revert form.'

My body starts to stretch and all my fur, my ears, and basically all the features that made this form unique become a mist. The mist turns into aura and comes back into my body.

'I'm glad I didn't have to go through that agonizing pain again.'

The nurse brings me out of my thoughts when she takes her hand off my shoulder.

"Go to the auditorium. I'm guessing you got a tour so you should know where that is."

I look at her with a confused expression on my face, "...why?"

"Go and and find out, I was just told to keep you in here for awhile, all I know is that you should go."

I give her a skeptical look and she shrugs. I look back at the girl on the bed and then leave. 'Wonder why that fight even started.'

.

.

The auditorium has a handful of students sitting down, waiting for...something. Nothing seems to be going on so I sit down and wait like the rest of them.

I look towards the others and see the one boy I fought earlier sitting down and chatting with a couple others. The rest of the students are either sitting on their own or chatting with eachother. I notice one of the students walking over to me.

He's pretty tall and has an elegant look going on. Seems like a royal. Blue hair and red eyes, pale skin, it's a pretty unique look. Plus his aura is a lot stronger than the majority of the class.

He flashes a smile and waves at me, "Hey there!"

I return a smile, "Hello."

"Are you the kid who beat Elsen by any chance?" He points his thumb behind him, directed at the boy from earlier.

I give him a shrug, "I wouldn't say that, the Principal intervened anyways."

He puts his hand on my head and ruffles my hair. "Ah don't downplay yourself! You're pretty humble for a kid! Not to mention strong!"

I grasp his wrist lightly and remove it from my head. He squats down a little bit, putting his hands on his knees. "How old are you anyways? Don't you have to be 11 or older to get in?"

My face goes blank, 'Really?' I give him a slight glare, "I'm 12. This isn't a proper way to introduce yourself anyways, your supposed to exchange names."

He gives me a sheepish smile, "My bad, my names Nev nice to meet you! What's your name?" He extends his hand out for a handshake.

I shake his hand, "Seiran, nice to meet you too."

He seems to be caught in thought for a moment. He looks at me for a couple of seconds and then his face changes to utter shock. 'Wait did he check my aura? Why can so many people use silent casting in this world??'

He realizes that I can see him staring, "Ah...sorry just wanted to check your aura but...wow...what are you?"

I recoil a bit and then sigh, "I'm a demi-human."

He shakes his head, "Right...right....that's right." He seems to be lost in thought, he sits down next to me and just looks straight ahead.

'What a weird guy. There must be a more powerful people in this world compared to mine.'

I look at the boy a fought from earlier, white hair, muscular build, around the same height as Nev, probably a bit shorter, he looks extremely hot headed and cocky. 'Compared to my lifetime of aura training he's already three forths my my power.'

'Although...it's not like I lived long anyways.'

'Either he was blessed with amazing aura from birth or he trained hard to get that far. Either way, he used his power for the wrong reasons. Targeting the weak is wrong.'

"AHEM!!! Over here students!"

The voice takes me by surprise and shakes me to my core. I look over towards the stage and see two men and a woman standing there patiently.

Once all of us turns to face them one of the men continues. 'Thank you all for coming here! I'm Vincent, and I'm here to welcome you! You've all been selected to join the S class students of this academy! Congratulations!'

He let's everyone think for a second. 'Now be sure to remember this is only based off of your aura density and size-"

One of the students raises her hand, "What's the difference between density and size anyways?"

Vincent smiles, "Good question! To put it simply, if someone has a high density aura only the size of their fist they could still have a better aura than someone who's aura is stretched throughout their body!"

The girl puts her hand down, "I guess that makes sense."

He gives out another smile before continuing. "So you've only been chosen because of you're aura's power, you're main focus will be learning spells and learning the weapon skills of a weapon of your choice!"

One of the students raises his hand, "When do we get to choose our weapons?"

Vincent goes into thought, "Well...I'd say in a couple of days from now."

The student nods, satisfied.

Vincent continues on telling us the academies rules and our classes. Well have Aura manipulation class first, then a spellcasting class, a physical class, and lastly a mentality class.

We are told to return to our dorms and that classes will start tomorrow.

When I return Chuzen is gone, I assume he left to his own class meeting. 'I wonder which class he got into?'

.

.

As I'm training my aura manipulation, I hear a knock at the door. I walk to the door and open it and to my surprise it's the girl I brought to the infirmary.

She looks down at me and smiles, "You're the one who stepped in when Elsen attacked me right? Thank you for doing that, I wanted to give you this as thanks." She pulls out a book and hands it to me. When I take a closer look I realize it's a spellbook, and it looks extremely powerful.

I look up at her, "This is a dangerous thing to give someone, how did you even get your hands on something like this? First off, why give it away?" I throw several questions at her.

She seems a little surprised, "Well yeah but I think I owe it to you. Elsen would've surely killed me if you didn't step in..."

I shake my head, "I doubt it, I have a feeling the fight was being monitored so someone would've stepped in if I didn't."

She shrugs, "Well you stepped in to help me before anyone else could, and to anwser your question. My family makes these books, many people know this spell."

I pause, "Wait your family makes these? You're parents are good enough bookmakers to create spellbooks? That's some kind of talent..."

She laughs a little, "I know how to make them myself! Though I'm not as good as my parents."

I shake my head, "Don't undermine yourself, it's still an amazing talent."

I've noticed that the more we talk the more confused she looks. "Something on your mind?"

She flinches before crossing her arms and leaning closer to my face. "You have some pretty mature speech patterns for a kid."

I quickly search for an explanation. I put on a calm face, "I've had to fend for myself most of my life, I was being trafficked last year if that reassures you."

'Crap, I should've worded that differently!'

She leans back up and pats my head, "Sorry you had to go through that, and again thank you for saving me. I'll be sure not to treat you like a kid then! See you around!" She starts to walk off, waving as she goes.

I wave back, still slightly confused on what happened. 'I didn't even get her name...'

I close the door and sit down on my bed, reading the spellbook. "Spell Combination" It reads on the cover. 'This could change the very way that I battle, live, and hell...breathe.'

I start studying the book, taking apart everything it says so I understand completely. After a few hours of studying the book, Chuzen comes back to the dorm. He seems pretty tired and lays down immediately, only greeting me with a "Hey".

He tells me that he got into the A class and that they immediately did a dueling test. Seems the classes are a lot different then I expected.

As ge dozes off I continue studying the spell. While spellbooks take a lot longer to learn spells than from observation magic and personal teachings, they usually are high tier spells.

.

.

.

"I Finally di-"

I stop myself, Chuzen is still sleeping. I look outside and it's pitch black. 'This took way too many hours to complete but it's so worth it!'

I sneak out of my dorm and go into the courtyard, sitting down in the grass. 'Let's try and combine my bloodline transformation with the black flame transformation...'

I start to get nervous, 'I haven't been able to stay in the black flame state for long, if this backfires like last time...I need to mentally prepare myself for the pain.'

I sit there for a few moments, 'It's not like it'll do anything anyways, screw it! Combination magic, combine Blood transformation and black flame transformation!'
