Chapter 5 - The Date (Part 3/3)

What kind of question is that? Who would do that to even a friend? Propose to her and ask if her sister would like it? What was wrong with him?

She tried to replay their conversations for the past few minutes and even days in her head. Where had it all gone wrong?

She considered Eddy her best friend but how come she did not know about his supposed feelings for Ella? When had it even started?

"I already asked your dad for his daughter's hand in marriage" he had said previously, and she had been ecstatic. It was now obvious that the 'daughter' was not her but her sister instead. How could he do this to her? She thought back again and again to most of their conversations but could still not find out where she went wrong!

Amanda smiled wryly as she replayed some of the words, he had used with her. It looked deliberate. Had Eddy always been like this?

She looked at them being all cozy with each other, the closeness, the caresses… Her view was blocked temporarily when the same waiter came by and brought her a glass of water. She took it absentmindedly and gulped it down. Amanda was quite grateful that the waiter minded his own business because she felt like a fool who had worn her emotions on her sleeve and had been caught with them. The waiter remained standing there as he waited for her order. She composed herself, wiped away the tears and did just that. When the man left to prepare the order, she looked at the couple again.

Contrary to everything happening, she did not hate her sister at all. She was dumbfounded as she just realised that she did not know her best friend as she thought she did. There was no surprise element with her sister because they were not that close to know each other's thoughts and they did not stay under the same roof either.

Their parents had been divorced when they were still young and when she stayed with her mother, her sister was raised by their father. A sister by blood she was, and nothing else. They did not even look like each other at all apart from the lush brown hair they had, which they all took from their mother. Amanda kept hers shoulder-length while Ella kept hers waist length. Amanda looked almost like the exact replica of her mother and Ella had taken their father's features. Both girls had their own unique characteristics that made them beautiful.

The thing was, Amanda had never seen this coming at all, not by any chance.

She sighed as her meal was served. She absentmindedly toyed with the spaghetti on her plate but never took a bite as she watched them.

Eddy went on his knees once again, this time before Ella. "You have been there for me through thick and thin in these years. I have also loved you for a while. Your dad has given us his blessing already so please marry me".

He used the exact same words from before. This earned a small chuckle from Amanda as she thought to herself, "Did he memorise those words?"

A piercing and an excited scream came from Ella as she accepted the ring and gave Eddy a big tight hug. Amanda averted her eyes when she saw them kiss. The familiarity with which they did, told her that, this was not the first time they were doing this. Afterwards, they sat back down close to each other amidst whispering and feeding themselves.

The violin was back though, and she did enjoy the wonderful melody from it. Eddy came over to invite her to their table for the celebration and she reluctantly went to sit with them.

"Eddy asked me to marry him," Ella showed her the ring proudly as told her. She really looked happy, so Amanda gave her a hug.

"Congratulations to you,"

"Do you have a date yet?"

"No, we have not decided on that yet. We will do that with daddy," Ella stated. She had a radiant smile on her face, and this put all negative thoughts if any, from Amanda's head. She put up a brave front and made up her mind to nurse her wound later, but she had a question that she just needed to ask.

"So, how long have you two been together?"

"Close to two months but we just know that we are made for each other", they smiled with their foreheads touching and started kissing … again. Afterwards, Ella excused herself to use the ladies' room.

"So? What do you think?" Eddy inquired from her.

"You do move fast. Two months huh?"

He smiled sheepishly in response and then added, "Thanks for planning the date".

"Just to be sure, Eddy, Is this why you asked me to dress up and this also the surprise?" An unreadable emotion crossed his face and just as he opened his mouth to respond, Ella came back.

"What are you two talking about? What did I miss?"

"Nothing much, but guess what honey? Amanda decided to pay for the date as a congratulatory gift for us and she has also planned a movie screening after this as well,"

"Isn't that amazing!?"

"Wait… W-w-hat", Amanda stammered with evident surprise on her face. When had she made that promise?

"OMG! sister, Thank you so much! You are the best!", She gave Amanda another hug and called for Eddy.

"Let's go, Eddy. I totally looovvvvveee the movies!"

Eddy had an unreadable facial expression, but his eyes looked like they were pleading with Amanda. Amanda on the other hand was so shocked that she did not notice anything but the fleeting words, "Remember to send the tickets to us…", and they were gone.

"Guardian angel, did you leave? Is this why this is happening to me?" she muttered to herself.

When they left, she walked up to pay with hesitance written all over her face. "Ma'am your bill has been paid in full", they informed her.

"Huh? Did Eddy pay?"

"No ma'am, he didn't but another gentleman has offered to pay for you,"

Amanda squeezed her eyes shut to keep her emotions at bay. "Offered to pay, you say?"

"Yes, ma'am".

"I am not anyone's charity case, and I am fed up with guys at the moment so please take my payment," she had a defiant look on her face as she handed her credit card over to the cashier.

The cashier sighed and took the card. She later returned it and said politely, "It's been declined ma'am, do you have another?"

"Can this day get any worse?"
