Back in the alley, Amanda walked slowly as her eyes adjusted to the darkness there. She hastened her steps after she had done this so that she would cross sooner because she felt a prickling sensation which she had learnt over the years was never a good sign. After a few steps, she heard some footsteps behind her and relaxed visibly. The place became less scary for her as she now had company… or so she thought.
Before her thoughts had settled, three men surrounded her, and she could hear her heart thundering in her chest as she tried to calm herself down.
"Give us all the money and valuables you have on you, and we will let you go!," One of three who looked like the leader spoke these words to her. She could not make their facial features because of the lack of light but the voice that spoke was so cold that it made the hairs on her back stand on end.
"I'm s-s-orry but I do not have any cash on me. Ple-ase let me go,". She stammered and managed to bring these words out. The words she had uttered made no sense to her, but the day had been an emotional rollercoaster for her and all she wanted was to get home and sleep.
"Don't worry darling, if you do not have money, there are other ways a beautiful girl like you can pay us." He laughed hysterically in a way that made her cringe.
She started thinking frantically as to what she could do. "No one will come to save you, Amanda, you have to save yourself!" As these words passed through her mind, she muttered under her breath, "I am no damsel in distress!",
"Huh? Did you say something darling?" the one in front of her asked and he closed the distance between them so that he could hear what she had said better. She kicked him as hard as she could in the balls and taking advantage of the distraction, she run without looking back.
"I will kill that bitch if I get her," he grunted as his two friends came to his aid.
"Are you two fools! Grab the girl!" he shouted at them.
"Yes boss!", they said in unison but before they could take a step, one was kicked in the butt so that he fell flat on his face and the other took a kick in the gut, fell, and did not make a word as he had fainted right away.
Amanda did not get far and stumbled because of her shoes and the uneven ground. Fear clouded her mind as she struggled to get up and continue running.
As if by divine intervention, the moon came out right then, throwing a small glow on them so the approaching man could see them all clearly, he saw the girl sprawled on the ground ahead of them where she seemed to have tripped and his anger swelled when he heard her groan slightly. He circled the three men slowly so that he was between them and her.

"Are you okay?" He asked,
Amanda recognized the voice from earlier as he had asked her the same question in the restaurant.
"Yes, I am" she replied shakenly. "Good," he said in response and helped her up, "stay behind me".
Then he turned his attention back to them. "Whom were you going to grab?", he asked them.
"Hey! young man, be on your way if you do not want trouble," the boss managed to get the words out to him.
Kelvin just laughed at him and said, "you'll have to get through me to her, so bring your best on!"
The first guy he had kicked spat out blood together with a few of his front teeth. Seeing this, the remaining man standing, charged at him… and he was already prepared for them. Using his arms to shield his face and deflect the wide arc he saw coming, he kicked the other in his groin, bang! The sound was heard in the quiet alley and Amanda averted her eyes.
All she heard was a bang! Grunt, whimper …. and then silence. When she turned, she saw all three beaten to a pulp in mere minutes and the man standing there without a single scratch! She let out the breath that she didn't know she was holding! "I guess the guardian angel was still working," … she muttered under her breath.
He got out a handkerchief and cleaned his hands. As he did, he heard the girl say quietly,
"I thought your shift ended early", For a moment, he thought she was referring to him until she added, "my guardian angel, where were you in the past few hours when I needed you?!" she then wiped the tears that threatened to fall off her face again and hid her face from him. If it wasn't for the fact the place was very quiet, he would not have heard those words.
Kelvin turned back to the girl and without saying anything to her, he continued walking. Amanda followed closely behind and had to quicken her pace to match his. When they came out of the alley, he paused and asked her,
"Which direction?"
"Huh? Uhm, it's that way please," and she led this time, walking a little slowly while he followed her at a safe distance. Soon, they came back to the lighted streets and saw her apartment in a distance, she heaved a sigh of release and walked gratefully home.
He led her right to the door of her apartment.
"T-thank you for the help", she said to him.
In reply, he said, "I'm Kelvin,"
"I'm Amanda", she replied
"I would like to get to know you better, can we be friends Amanda?"
Amanda laughed dryly and replied,
"Sorry, I don't do friends", she thanked him again and turned to leave but his next words made her pause temporarily.
"I am a person of my word Amanda, and I don't go back on them. You are and will only be mine!". She was stunned by his foolish talk.
"I am no one's property and I am my own person." She stated firmly and turned to leave.
"That may have come out in a bad way, but I like… no, I love you and I will stop at nothing to get you to agree to be mine and mine only. Also, not every guy out there is dark- minded like the 'a**' back there. Don't add me to the same bracket as him please because I know what you are thinking about…"
She shook her head at his antics and said, "You just met me, and you love me? Hehehe… You have no idea of what you speak of." Without giving him time to say anything more, she shook her head at his ridiculous talk and entered the room bidding him goodbye, she closed the door after her and left him standing there with a wry and silly smile on his face as if not perturbed by what she had told him.
He was smitten. "I think I'm in love with her, is this what they call love-at-first-sight?" he said to himself after he watched the door close behind her. He knew that he would miss his chance if he pushed her today because of the experience she had just gone through and added,
"She is way out of my league! I must step up my game to get her and tomorrow is another day to try". At least he had escorted her back home and made sure she got into her apartment and introduced himself. "That's more than enough progress for day one", he reasoned with himself before he left for his home.
