Dear diary,
Today is a very special day for me, because I will find out if Ernie really likes me or not. I am staying at aunt Libby's for a while because I just can't seem to get along with dad's new wife. She is dominant and I am treated like Cinderella. Always doing chores and taking care of her kids. Anyway, aunt Libby is my best friend. She is dad's older sister and even though she is blind, we can talk about anything. I told her about Ernie, and she is so excited for me. I will do the chores now and get ready for school. Love,
Farina.
At school, Farina was the first one to arrive. She was so nervous. One by one, her friends entered the schoolyard and greeted her. But the one person she was waiting for was Charlene, because she was the one who gave the letter to Ernie. Finally, she arrived with a big smile on her face. She walked towards Farina and greeted her.
"Hey Girl"
"Hey, did you give it to him? What did he say? Did he respond??" Farina anxiously asked her friend.
"Slow down, why don't you find out for yourself?" she replied mysteriously. She handed Farina a folded piece of paper. When she unfolded it, it turned out to be her letter. The letter read:
"Dear Ernie, I know that it seems a bit strange to receive a letter like this, but I just could not bring myself to tell you this in person. I am in love with you. You are the funniest person I have ever met and the kindest. I hope you like me too, but I will understand if you don't. Waiting for your response, Farina."
Farina looked disappointed and wanted to say something, but Charlene said:'Turn it over". When she did, she saw his handwriting, saying:
"Dear Farina, I thought this day would never come. I am in love with you, too. You are sweet and kind, and I am so happy to receive your letter, Ernie."
Farina was ecstatic! He liked her back!! At that moment, he arrived at school. He smiled at her and she smiled back. He kissed her and from that moment on they were an item. Farina could not believe it. She was with one of the most popular guys at school. As the weeks passed, her popularity increased as well. She learned a lot from him. She had never even danced with a guy before. At the school dance, he was the first one. He taught her how to kiss. She was extremely happy. But there was one problem. She was not allowed to go out with a guy. Her family was very strict, and she could not meet him outside of school hours. That put a strain in their relationship. She asked her aunt for help, and Ernie was allowed to visit, but only in broad daylight. So he would visit her, with his bicycle. She hated that bike. He had won it as a prize when he competed in the annual speech contest. It was bright yellow with a basket up front. And with the sunlight shining on it, it looked much brighter, almost blinding. Although he loved her very much, he could not let the relationship grow the way he wanted it to. So after three months, he came to her house with a letter. The letter read:
"Dear Farina, as I write these words, my heart breaks to pieces. I really have found the sweetest and kindest girl ever. But because of your strict family, I can't continue like this. So, with tears in my eyes, I want to tell you that this relationship is over. Please do not blame yourself for this. You are an amazing girl, and please never change. I hope you find it in your heart to forgive me. I am so sorry to break your heart. You do not deserve this. Love, Ernie"
Farina was devastated. She cried and cried and had no words to say. He looked at her and said:
"Can we be friends?"
"Sure"
"Please forgive me Farina" he pleaded, tears streaming down his face. But Farina was too heartbroken to notice. She felt betrayed and hurt. So she did not respond. They hugged each other, and she watched him riding away, and she felt like she was hit by a car. He left her heartbroken behind and did not look back. She needed her diary...
