Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

He had been in a meeting with his researchers when he realized that he could no longer pinpoint his daughter's location.

It was very strange. His daughter Kahlan wore an amethyst stone necklace given to him by the Luna.

With that stone, he was supposed to be able to track her.

Numerous thoughts fleeted through his head within the few seconds he realized that he could no longer feel the stone.

He felt like he was losing control.

Control… yes! From the moment Kahlan came to him, he had felt out of control.

As the Alpha, he had a lot of responsibility on his shoulders. So many people were looking up to him.

Granted he had other alphas in charge of the various regions all around the world. But that didn't change anything.

He was the first Alpha. The one specially turned by the Luna Goddess, Artemis.

His story was one that was cloaked in mystery. So many legends had been told about him. So much so that fiction surpassed fact.

He was Orion.

Although he was a demigod son of Poseidon, he had been a companion to Artemis. For so long that when he made a tragic mistake due to his pride and arrogance, rather than kill him for his hubris, Artemis, with the aid of Gaia, Goddess of the earth casted him into an animal. A wolf.

He shook his head when he thought of his youthful shenanigans. He actually boasted to be a better hunter than Artemis, saying he was going to hunt every animal on earth.

His curse was to roam the earth as a man by day, and a wolf by the light of the full moon. It was rather fitting. Being the creature he hunted the most.

He had accepted this punishment, willing to stay by Artemis' side whether as a man or a wolf.

Thus, he became the first werewolf.

Gradually, he formed a pack made of the greatest hunters on earth, and they served as guardians of nature.

They spread all around the world with several Alphas to control each pack.

However, he was the Head Alpha.

Though having lived centuries, he was celibate. Dedicated to serving only his Goddess. But a little over a decade ago, he had been captured. He had no memory of his captivity.

When he was released, he was found holding a little baby. Kahlan.

He was revolted. He stood for purity but was now defiled. Even having a child to show for it.

Naturally he wanted to throw her away. But Artemis had other plans for the child.

It seemed she knew who was the mother of the child and wanted to use Kahlan for revenge.

His heart had always belonged to Artemis. His Luna. But he knew that nothing could come of his longing for her.

He had stayed by his Luna's side for eons of years.

Fighting and serving her.

Simply put, he was a simp. And it seemed he would continue to be one for as long as he could.

He was quite satisfied with being her henchman. And if that meant raising this child, he would do so.

But now the child was gone.

He could feel himself spiraling. He had never failed the Luna before and he couldn't let whatever shenanigans the child was up to ruin that.

He sent a telepathic message to the pack that resided in this region.

They arrived within an hour after he called.

"Alpha" they greeted. Bowing their head in submission.

There were about 1000 werewolves in Georgia, but only about 80 resided in the greater Caucasus region. But 30 assembled. Being the warriors of the pack they were the ones who took care of emergencies.

Their alpha was with them.

He sent them into the snowing mountains. They formed teams of twos and spread around searching for the child. Fruitlessly.

Meanwhile Adam (as he now preferred to be called instead of Orion) stayed at the research tower, using telepathy to communicate with the wolves.

Since he was the supreme Alpha, all the other Werewolves were formed through his blood. Thus, he could form a telepathic bond with them. Using this bond, he could communicate with them as well as force them into submission.

These Werewolves were a hundred times stronger than any human had any right to be. And despite the fact that they could only turn during the full moon, they had superhuman strength.

It took a several hours for them to comb the length and breadth of the mountain, but they couldn't find her.

Adam was worried. Could it be that the child had been taken by other gods?

What were the chances that she could capture their attention?

She was not a Werewolf.

He had checked her blood. And knew that she had no signs of Were in her.

If she was, she would automatically be a part of his pack and he would be in control of her life. Able to kill her with a thought.

But she wasn't and that scared him.

She was his blood and was supposed to be even more Were than any other werewolf.

But she wasn't.

And this made him ponder again, as to who could be her mother. Who could have been dominant enough to flush out his Were blood?

They searched for hours. But there was no signs of her.

Could it be that she went to town instead of the mountain?

No that wasn't possible.

The surveillance cameras showed her obtaining hiking gears, and heading off in the direction of the mountain.

Why the guards didn't stop her when she was embarking, he couldn't fathom.

So he told the pack members to keep on searching.

These men were hunters who knew the terrain. They had hiked these mountains for decades. But this was the first time that they had seen this phenomenon.

It was the middle of June, these mountains were usually cool at most but it was never like this.

The snow was thick on the ground, such that with every step, they could feel their boots sinking in. It was storming so hard that it seemed like December.

They had seen a lot of strange things in their lives. Heck they were creatures transitioning between man and wolf, but the weather here was something that was dependable, at least.

They wondered who was behind this.

They knew that it wasn't their Alpha. Although they respected him well enough knowing he was their sire and he had given them a new chance at a prolonged life, they knew he didn't possess any powers over the elements. If anyone did, it was probably their Luna Goddess.

The Caucasus mountain range was huge. But it was only on one particular mountain that the snow stormed.

It was the one closest to the research institute.

The cloud was overcast on this mountain. Lightning could be frequently be seen striking about.

It seemed like this mountain was cursed.

Seeing this, they wondered if their goddess was angry at them.

They put their backs into it and began combing the mountain again.

Searching for the child.
