Chapter 14 - Misunderstanding

"What?!" He was once again interrupted, this time by the loud shout of Frederick, who sounded extremely surprised at what was being told to him through the phone. "What do you mean he's fainted?"

"What's going on?" Mason, unable to contain his curiosity, asked, and Frederick turned to look at him. "It's Gerald." He said softly. "He was beat up."

"What? Was it the same kid?" Mason was surprised as well. He knew Gerald. He was a tough opponent for almost anyone, but someone took him down? "No, no…" Frederick shook his head and paused for a second before continuing, "It was someone else!"

"Someone else?" Mason raised his eyebrows as he responded with a surprised expression on his face. He rubbed his chin with a confused look, as Frederick continued to talk through the phone. "Do you know who the kid is? Anything?"

"Who the hell could it be?" Mason murmured softly under his breath, his hand on his chin as Frederick yelled into his phone again. "Well, what the fuck were you clowns doing the whole time this was going on? What do you mean you weren't in the classroom when it happened? You didn't ask around? You only did that to confirm it wasn't the other kid who attacked? What the fuck are you guys waiting for then? Go on and find out who that fucker is, you bitches!"

Frederick hung up his phone and placed it into his pocket before turning around to face Mason, who asked, "Didn't find out who the attacker was, huh.."

"Unfortunately, no.." Frederick clicked his tongue and shook his head as he walked towards Mason. He continued, "The dumbasses didn't even ask around the classroom properly. These motherfuckers thought that their jobs were over when they figured out that the attacker wasn't the kid who struck Derek. I can't believe we have a bunch of fools working for us!"

"Two attacks in a single day.." Mason began to whisper quietly again, and Frederick turned his attention to him. He asked, "What's the matter? Sensing something fishy?"

"Maybe…" Mason shrugged his shoulders. "Two attacks against two of our lowest ranking members on the same day."

"I agree that it's quite suspicious, given that no one from our school has ever dared to attack our members in the past two years." Frederick responded while scratching his chin. He continued, "But it definitely could be a coincidence. What makes you believe that the two attacks were connected? Other than the connection of happening on the same date, of course.."

"Your boys said that it's not the same kid as the one who struck Derek, right?" Mason asked, and Frederick nodded his head in response. "They also said that they weren't in the classroom, which meant that they only realized that it wasn't the same kid because they asked around and got a description."

"I don't get it. You just said what we already know. What the fuck did you find out?" Frederick tilted his head and stared at Mason with a look of puzzlement in his eyes.

"If they had to get a description…" Mason said as he pointed his finger at the sky. He then took a deep breath before continuing with a soft voice. ".. Then that means that the attacker isn't someone who's known around the school. Otherwise, they wouldn't need to get a description of the kid. The students whom they asked must've already known the name of the kid."

"Lots of kids are not famous, though. What the fuck are you talking about?" Frederick asked. He still didn't know what the hell Mason was trying to say to him.

"How many students do you know, in our school, that know how to fight properly, and yet are not famous?" Mason asked with an annoyed expression. He tilted his head to the side and continued, "Especially in our school. You know, which has a literal hierarchical system based on strength?"

"Hm, you're right.." Frederick said softly as he scratched his chin. He then narrowed his eyes, indicating that he was in deep thought.

"Two boys, who were not known throughout the school, suddenly fought back against those higher than them in the hierarchy at the same time, even though they supposedly had no prior knowledge of fighting?" Mason clenched his fists as a serious expression appeared on his face. "This isn't a coincidence. This is a carefully planned operation."

"To do what?" Frederick, who also had a serious expression on his face, asked, and Mason replied, "To start a revolution."

"What?" Frederick's eyes widened with surprise. "Are you sure?"

"Oh, I am almost certain that it is the case." Mason folded his arms and continued, "They have been waiting patiently, gathering people who supported their cause, training them, all for this moment!"

He paused for a second before continuing, "I'm sure that the mastermind behind this has been planning this for months..  maybe even years!"

Achoo!

"What's the matter? Did you catch a cold or something?" Jacob asked as he patted Mark's shoulder before handing him a packet of chips from the cafeteria.

"Nah, it's probably nothing.." Mark said as he wiped his nose. He then leaned back on the chair and ripped open the packet before reaching his hand into it and grabbing a handful of chips.

"You really like those chips, don't you?" Jacob raised his eyebrows with an uncomfortable look on his face. Mark wasn't exactly eating in an elegant way.

"Yeah, they're alright, I guess…" Mark replied in a nonchalant tone, and Jacob suppressed the urge to yell out 'liar!' as loud as he could.

"So, are we planning on talking down all the bullies one by one? Is that the plan?" Jacob asked another question.

Mark shrugged his shoulders. "I don't know. Maybe. It's definitely a lot less boring than sitting inside the classroom."

"You don't have a solid plan?" Jacob asked, and Mark responded. "I do. Beating them up. Works every time."

"Right, right, right… I totally forgot about that.." Jacob spoke with a sarcastic tone, but Mark ignored him and continued devouring the bag of chips. "You know you can take down the next target all on your own, right?" Mark said as he attempted to grab the last piece of chips from underneath the bag.

"I'm not that confident. Not yet," Jacob replied. "I definitely need someone to have my back."

"Well then, tell your back to get ready.." Mark said as he slammed the empty bag on the table before getting up. ".. Because we're about to head right back into action mode, baby!"
