Chereads / I Am A Mana God / Chapter 2 - Understanding the Assignment

Chapter 2 - Understanding the Assignment

Avatar.

An Avatar signifies the material appearance or incarnation of a god on earth realm. An avatar is a mortal form of a god in the realm of mortals, and there are multiple avatars existing throughout the universe for a single god. They can be in various forms, with various appearances and names, but are the same in essence and spirit.

Most of the time, the avatar and the god exist separately, connected only in the spiritual sense. However, a god can choose to inhibit the avatar to control them directly if they wished to.

"Fuck me!" Mark Fukuoka, the avatar of Irmes, slapped his forehead and he grunted loudly with anger, gritting his teeth as he did so.

Except he was not just an avatar now. Irmes, the god of mischief himself, was inhabiting the avatar's body, controlling it directly.

"The earth realm? Are you fucking kidding me, old man?!" Irmes, now Mark, kicked the wall as soon as he finished speaking, and his big toe slammed against it, causing him to scream in agony. "AHH! Motherfucker!"

"MARK! YOU BETTER STOP YELLING THIS INSTANT!!" Mark couldn't finish his scream as it was interrupted by an angry voice that belonged to his mother, and he quickly shut his mouth.

".... Okay mom," He said with a calm voice, right after which he muttered softly to himself, "Fuck! I'm getting chewed out in the earth realm as well!"

Mark then sat on top of his bed and let out a loud sigh, right after which he stretched out one of his hands and closed his eyes.

"... Damn it! My expectations were low, but to think that it was this poor…" He said with a voice filled with defeat and disappointment as he observed his hand, which had a faint glow surrounding it.

"This is all the mana that I can conjure up right now?" Mark said with a snort as he waved his hands, and the glow started to dissipate.

"Why earth realm, brother?" Inmos asked Ides as the two flew away, sitting on top of their wyverns.

"I've found that the mana pool in earth realm is extremely low," Ides said after contemplating on his answer for a split second. He turned to look at Inmos before continuing, "It's a problem that needs to be fixed if earth realm wants to survive for another million years."

Inmos nodded his head.

Mana pool.

It's the total amount of mana present within a certain region, and it provides the magical abilities of the species that inhabit the region. Of course, the mana that has been used up by these species, now in the form of Ugos, returns to the land, the nature and the atmosphere, and is once again converted back to mana afterwards.

This cyclic motion is what maintains the mana pool within a certain region, and should the cycle be fueled by an extremely small number of mana users utilizing an extremely small amount of mana, then the mana pool of the region, as a result, would also shrink along with it.

Mana is what helps maintain and replenish nature, land and the atmosphere with energy, and without it, the realm is destined for a disastrous end.

Ides spoke again, "And one would require an enormous amount of mana to be able to even find the hidden gates of Gulos, let alone activate it."

The gates of Gulos are the entrance to the Zuleyar, a magical pathway that connects the earth realm to the paradise realm, and can only be accessed after fulfilling a set of requirements related to the realm that you occupy.

"So it's two birds with one stone," Inmos rubbed his chin as an impressed look appeared on his face. "You really thought this one through, brother."

"Why, of course. It is related to my son, after all…" Ides tapped his chest and said proudly. "I can only hope that he learns to be a better man in his journey to return to his home."

"Fuck! Screw you, old man! This is all your fault." Back in the earth realm, Irmes, now Mark, was throwing a tantrum as he wiggled around on his bed.

"Not only am I not able to utilize mana properly, but I'm also inhabiting one of my weakest avatars!"

Mark was angry. After all, he was a god. A celestial being who was above these mortals who inhabit this realm. And yet, he was inhabiting the body of a weak boy named Mark, who was near the bottom of the social pyramid, with average grades and no special talent other than the ability to attract bullies, who seemed to enjoy tormenting him.

"This isn't giving me a handicap! This is cutting my arms and legs off and replacing them with chicken legs, and then telling me to take on the world!" Mark was angry at his father, who he felt was enjoying doing this to his son.

"You think this is going to make me act exactly like you wanted? Well screw you!" Mark gritted his teeth as he raised his fist into the air before popping his middle finger out. "I'm going to get out of this hellhole, and I'm going to do it my way!"

"MARK! SHUT THE HELL UP! DO NOT MAKE ME COME UP THERE!" Mark's loud declaration was interrupted once again by the angry voice of his mother, and he was forced to shut his mouth once more.

"..... Yes, mom…" Mark reluctantly answered. Although he wanted to talk back against his mortal 'mother', he knew that it would be best if he controlled his emotions to the person that was providing him shelter.

Although Irmes, now Mark, was arrogant, he wasn't an idiot. He knew that since he was currently a mortal being with no powers, he would need to rely on others to provide him with help to live in this realm. He knew that this was like living in paradise realm, where it was easy and comfortable. This was earth, and he needed to adapt.

But, he definitely wasn't going to live like his father wants. No, he said to himself. He wouldn't bow down and accept defeat so easily. Not after what his father had done to him.

He came out of his room and down to the dining room, where Mark's mother had served him breakfast.

"Eat, and then get ready to go to school," His mother spoke softly with her back turned around from him. "Don't waste time."

Mark glanced at the dish that was on the table; it was bacon and scrambled eggs. He sat down and glanced yet again at the plate in front of him for a split second before taking a bite.

'Hm,' He thought. 'Not bad.'
