Heaven, a paradise peaceful realm where Gods and Angels settle. On the other side of the universe is Hell. A hot-heated realm with constant violence and filled with immense hatred for the demons and devils reside. For the past who knows how many years, heaven and hell are at each other's throats. Battling non-stop with sheer power and everything else they could, the war doesn't stop. It never ends, and it brings the mortal realm into their conflict, which gives Hell a huge advantage to play with the Gods' feelings.
They are powerless. Vulnerable. Helpless. Some of them went into hiding. To never see the daylight ever again. While the others fought bravely against the evildoers and failed miserably. Gods can't do anything to stop them, and it's breaking their hearts to know that they are mighty. Yet, they couldn't save millions of lives until one of them sacrificed itself for the greater good. Exchanging its life to give powers to the mortals, earning the name of those who inherited the powers, Champions.
Champions are the defenders and heroes of the mortal realm. They can be identified by their signature glowing markings on their body that symbolized their power. These markings are called-
"Liam, are you still reading that book again?"
A boy with short black hair and hazel eyes turns his attention to a female knight with ginger ponytail hair with blue eyes, leaning against the front door frame of his armory store.
"What's wrong with reading this book, Aniya? It's so interesting and awesome to read our history. We both know that we have never seen a Champion before, and I want to meet one," Liam replied.
The girl rolled her eyes with a smile, knowing that her childhood friend never stops talking about Champions, knights, pretty much anything that relates to the military.
"I know how you feel, but do you count how many times you read this book? I'm worried about you considering you didn't manage to become a knight."
Aniya knew how meaningful it is for him to become a knight. It was his dream back then and wanting to protect his people from demons like anyone in the military would.
Becoming a knight is way more competitive than it was before because of the eternal conflict and the requirement for it, especially becoming a foot soldier. Liam smiled and shook his head.
"I don't know how many times I've read it, but it doesn't affect me as long as I'm helping everyone out."
Liam began stroking the book's cover as his smile started to shrink a little bit while staring at the book.
"As long as I can help my hometown as much as I can, I'll be satisfied." Aniya deeply stared at her friend whom she knew for a long time. She remembers those words he said back in the days when they were kids when they were pretending to be knights. People who got into the military have talents like her, but she had never seen anyone who had a strong desire that pushes them to the extreme. She sees them as better warriors than the talented ones because they work their butts off. Devoting their life to dedication.
Liam pretty much gives up at the very end when he sees that he's not qualified to be a knight or a foot soldier. It's those high requirements and competition that prevent him.
She sighed before walking up to the front desk where he was.
"If that requirement so-called 'The Chosen One' is not on there, you have a chance to become a knight," she stated. The Chosen One is one of the high-demand requirements for joining the military. It's where a king and the other nobles decide if that student is worthy enough to join the military. Most of the students are nobles because of the gifted skill they've got ever since they were born, including Aniya. On the behalf of the students, they are barons or highly talented peasants where the nobles proclaim that they have the potential to become a high rank like them.
"I don't think it's going to make a difference, Aniya. There's a reason why it exists, and it's because of the demons. I understand why because of how powerful the demons are, and we're basically in a cage," Liam informed.
Aniya was about to say something, but she stopped there. He was right, and every kingdom needs talented strong warriors to defend their home. She bit her lips and began to think of something that would change his mind if it happens.
"But, I'm working at a store that helps adventures and the people from the military who come by. Most of these weapons are made out of specific materials to kill off the demons, thanks to the Champions."
"You're right," Aniya said as she pulled her golden basket-hilted sword and look at the blade. Since the god sacrifice itself to give its power to the mortals known as Champions, the place where it happened is the most sacred and most important in the world because it contains the holy minerals that are effective against demons due to the god sacrifice.
"It's a good thing that the nobles in our kingdom are not as ignorant as the others," she said.
"What's wrong with the others?" Liam asked as he stared at her weirdly. Liam never met a typical ignorant noble in his life, unlike the other nobles. All of the nobles in the Navalon Kingdom are extremely nice.
Aniya put her hand on his shoulder and squeeze it tightly as she gives him a stern look on her face.
"Do. Not. Talk. To. Them. Whatever. You. Do..."
"Uh...o-okay?"
Aniya didn't want Liam to meet one of them. On second thought, it's better off to start sparring just in case he met one. Ignorant Nobles are known to force people to do their dirty work. In that case, any fighter, magician, clerics, rangers, and rogue classes from high rank families. It's also better if he practice a lot whenever the demons attack.
"Liam..."
"Y-Yes?" Liam was nervous what else she's going to say because she is overprotective over him.
"Where's the training sword? We're going to spar."
