Mr. Lonte leads me into the principal's office. When I arrived at class today, he was waiting for me at the edge of the classroom door. Unfortunately, the faculty couldn't extract all of the valeomile roots yesterday, and only a thin piece of tape holds people from entering the room.
Inside the office sits the principal. Her body sits frim in the curve of her chair. She doesn't notice our appearance and continues to write on a piece of paper meticulously. Then, out of the blue, she sets down the pen perched in her hand and looks up at the two of us with a blank face.
"Thank you for bringing him here, Kelton."
My eyes shoot over to the family in the corner. Their presence shocks me. My eyes almost miss Jiro shrunken behind a woman in formal attire. His head is pointed to the ground, and he refuses to look up at me. Did they find out I did this for him, and now he's in trouble? I hope that's not the case. I don't want to cause him any more problems than I already have.
"Please sit over there bythe Sasaki family, Mako." Her hand smoothly points over to the family in the corner.
I scurry my feet along the floor to the couch. It's much too big for me, and when I sit down, I feel as if I'm drowning in the ocean. Jiro's family stares at me intensely. Their eyes burn holes into my body. I hear the body click from behind me, but I don't dare look back for fear that the family might attack me when I'm not looking.
Principal Rose makes her way over to a small armchair that sits diagonally to Jiro's family and me.
"Well, Lord and Lady Sasaki, it has been extremely convenient of me for both of you to make it to today's meeting." Jesus, Lord, and Lady? Such high titles in even the magical community are rare. I shouldn't have crossed Jiro.
The two nod their head but don't say a word. I understand why Jiro has his head pointed to the ground. Their stares are overbearing.
"There has been an incident with your son Jiro as I'm sure you're already aware of." The two keep their heads looking forward at the principal.
"Yes, we understand and have chosen to take him out of this academy. That way, he is sure to cause you no more harm."My head jolts upward and looks at the two. "He will continue his education at the hands of one of our tutors." Lord Sasaki finishes.
Principal Rose nods her head and turns to look at me. I am still in shock at what just happened. "Normally, I wouldn't call you here for this. However, Mako Sato has also recently had an incident here at school. Yesterday afternoon he casted a creation spell of a plant." Lady Sasaki looks at me with a slight grin on her face.
"That is rare for a low-status magic user like him, but it is nothing to have to inform us about." Lady Sasaki says in a condescending tone.
Principal Rose sighs. "Yes, I know that, but he created a level 8 type plant, knocked out six students with valeomile smoke, two of which are still in recovery, and still had plenty of energy to spare afterward."
All three look over at me, each family member more shocked than the last.
"Why are you telling us of this, Rose?" Lord Sasaki gets up from his wife's side.
"Mako and Jiro, please exit the room for me. Both of you can wait outside the doors until they open."
Without hesitation, Jiro gets up from behind the cover of his mother and makes his way to the door. He's been through this before. I reluctantly get up from the couch cushions and follow him from behind.
When we walk through the door, the door slams shut, and a magic seal soaks into the doors. Jiro grabs me by my collar and throws me against the wall next to the door.
"Who the hell are you?"
I look at him, distressed, but he continues to glare at me.
"What are you talking about?"
"You work for the Scarlet Eye, don't you?" That name again. I've heard that name from somewhere.
"No. I don't. I'm just as confused as you are, but you're scaring me." I can feel tears begin to well up in my eyes. Why am I messing up all the time? I don't want to do this anymore.
His grip quickly loosens. "Shit, I'm sorry." His hand cups into the edge of my cheek. He seems to be looking for something on my face. Then, finally, our eyes meet, and he lefts go completely. His body shifts, and he slides to the floor with his back against the wall. "The Scarlet Eye targets my family a lot, and with magic, like Principal Rose said you had, I got out of hand."
I slide down beside him. However, unlike him, I curl my legs up close to my body. "The Scarlet Eye, what are they."
"They're an organization that wants to bring back old magic." He picks at the buttons on his shirt. I just now notice that he isn't wearing the academies jacket.
"What's so bag about old magic?"
"Old magic is potent, which sounds good at first. The only problem is that the more you use it, the more the magic takes over your mind." He ripes a button off his shirt.
Without thinking, I grab his hand. "We don't have to talk about it if it makes you uncomfortable." He looks down at my hand, and my eyes follow his. I yank my hand away. "Sorry."
He looks up at me. "About yesterday, at the equipment closet." He pauses.
The seal on the door shatters, and Jiro springs up from the floor. I follow him, unsure of what to expect. I wish the door waited a little longer. I wanted to hear what he was going to say about yesterday.
Lady Sasaki comes out first. She walks over to Jiro. Although the way she moves makes it look as though she were gliding over to him. She draws her mouth near his ear and whispers something too faint for me to hear.
Next comes Lord Sasaki. His stance is stern and strong. He grabs my shoulder and pulls me away from Jiro and close to him. "You'll be leaving with us today. This academy can not teach you the things that someone with potential like you." He lets go of me and turns, and walks away from us.
What just happened? Was I kicked out of the school for destroying school property? My parents are going to kill me. Lady Sasaki glides past me, but I pay no attention to her in my confusion.
Suddenly, Jiro softly grabs my arm. "Don't worry, just stay by me, and it'll be alright." He says to me in a low voice.
I can feel some of my worries begin to melt away from just his voice.
