Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Your goal

"Hop in!" One of the disciples said in a loud voice.

Ryoto entered the carriage and closed the door behind him. After that, the carriage started moving.

"Hi, I'm Ryu," Ryu said trying to be social.

"Hello, Ryu!" Ryoto shouted, "I'm Nagaoko Ryoto!"

He shouted so loudly even the disciples riding the carriage got scared.

"Are you crazy shouted so loud!?"

Ryoto was a redhead that had hair that reached his shoulders. He had a big physical body, and he had dark red eyes.

"No need to shout you know," Ryu giggled.

Without even knowing him that well, Ryu knew that he would come to like him.

"Oh, sorry," Ryoto said scratching the back of his head.

"Get down dipshits, we've arrived at the hotel!"

When they got down, they saw the hotel looked more like an abandoned construction. The walls weren't painted at all and they could clearly see the cracks in them, The wooden roof had holes, and the windows looked as if someone was thrown out of each of them.

Before Ryu could complain about the hotel to the disciples, they had already left.

"Damn bastards," Ryu whispered hardening his fist and grinding his teeth, "they didn't even give us money to pay for our rooms!"

The street where the hotel was situated was dark with no light, and all the houses and buildings on the horizon were in the same shape as the hotel they were facing. There were a few people roaming around on the street, but they didn't look trustful at all.

"Wait, don't you live here? so we might be able to sleep at your place instead!" Ryu asked with a glimpse of hope.

"I live in the district next door, and this is another district, so I am not very familiar with this place, the best option for us right now is to enter the hotel and see what happens next," Ryu replied walking to the entrance.

Ryu left with no choice had to follow Ryoto to the hotel. Once they entered, the place was pitch dark, and the only small light they had was coming from the moonlight passing through the broken windows.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, a candle was lit in the middle of the room. An old lady was the one that lit the candle, and she was happily looking in their direction.

"Um hi, I'm Ryu, and my friend right here is Ryoto, I was wondering whether we could have room to spend the night..."

"That will cost you 2 bronze coins," she said with a soft voice.

Luckily, Ryoto happened to have two bronze coins on him, and they both managed to get a room for the night.

"That will be door 1 right upstairs, here's a candle, and the stairs are right behind me,"

The woman gave them a candle, and they walked up the stairs, and the first door presented to them was fortunately door 1.

They entered the room, and inside, there were two bedrooms, each on one side of the room, and a big hole in the ceiling illuminating the room.

"I don't even think this room is worth a bronze coin," Ryoto said scanning the room.

"Those bastards," Ryu exclaimed as he laid down on one of the beds, "they're gonna pay for what they did today!"

"I recommend not doing anything rational," Ryoto replied taking his tunic off, "they're your elders, and they are far more powerful than you,"

"If they're my elders, then why are they respecting Hina so much!?" Ryu muttered.

"I don't know, she must be a beautiful woman maybe, that's all,"

"AH, I knew, they're just a bunch of fucking simps that's all!"

"Maybe, maybe not, but anyway, I need some sleep, unlike you, I walked all day to get here..." Ryoto said laying down on his bed and closing his eyes.

"One last thing, why do you want to become a cultivator?" Ryu asked out of curiosity.

"Well, my whole family lineage has just been a succession of successful cultivators one after another,"

Both of them were laying down with their hand at the back of their head looking at the ceiling.

"So eventually, I was supposed to become one of those famous cultivators as well. My big brother is already a successful cultivator, and even my cousin was recommended by the Hijima Sect's Grandmaster. That already says how powerful and respected my family is.

But then there's me, the weakest of this lineage. My parents aren't what you could say the kindest, so when I was behind all my siblings, they started to reject me, stating that I was a shame to the family,"

Ryu looked at Ryoto with big eyes and an open mouth.

"Is this motherfucker seriously gonna give me his whole story?"

Ryoto went on and on until his story came to a term.

"So now I'm gonna prove these bastards that I have what it takes to become a cultivator,"

'That's all cute and all, but who asked about your whole family problems,' Is what Ryu wanted to say.

"That's an inspiring goal," Is what Ryu actually said.

"What about you Ryu? What's your goal?" Ryoto asked turning his head to Ryu.

"Hmmm... that's a good question,"

Ryu left his district only because of taxes, but he had never thought of what his goals were.

"I guess all I'm thinking of when referring to being a cultivator is money and fame..." Ryu replied while glaring at the ceiling.

"Yeah, that's what everyone would like when you want to become a cultivator, but you must also have a unique goal... One that will force you to push beyond your limits, anyway, I'm getting tired, so goodnight,"

"Yeah, goodnight," Ryu replied.

'A goal that will force you to push your limits huh... That sounds like some dumb hero type of mentality,' Ryu said before closing his eyes and falling asleep.

[Next morning]

Ryu was sleeping in a weird position with one of his arms and leg nearly touching the ground while his other arm and leg were on the bed. He woke up to a cold freezing shower from the two disciples.

"Wake up you lazy fuck, you're making the Council Master wait!"
