Chapter 1 - Memories of a better time

In a dimly lit room, a little girl opened her beautiful blue eyes and, using her little hand wiped her eyes before stretching out her hands.

It was at that moment that the door of her room opened and a beautiful woman with green eyes and red hair entered.

"Emma, breakfast is ready, you should go downstairs so you can have breakfast with the rest of the family. Remember that today we have to travel to the state of Alaska to see your grandfather.

I already have your suitcase ready and all the things you are going to need, but I still need to prepare some things that your father left pending.

Although I hate to say it, he is distracted by the maintenance trip to the space station."

Emma gave her mother a smile and pulled the covers off of her. "Dad is absolutely great to be able to travel to space. I know that in the future I will also be able to visit the space station.

But first I have to brush my teeth because I don't want the tooth mouse to get mad."

The woman laughed and rested her hand on the door frame. "I know you can achieve your dream also don't tell your father but we thought we'd take you to a camp for kids who want to be astronauts in California.

But Emma, you're pretty sure you don't need my help brushing your teeth."

Emma shook her little head. "No mom, I'm a big girl now and I have to learn to do it all by myself.

My friends at school say that they brush their teeth by themselves, I should be able to do it otherwise I will continue to be a little girl.

Also, if I'm going to go to camp, I have to prove that I'm independent like you or dad."

The woman smiled and looked lovingly at her daughter. "You know that even if you are a big girl, you will still be my baby. You are the most important thing in my life."

Emma got out of bed and put on her cat slippers before running to her mother so she could give her a hug.

"I will always be your baby mama, just like I will always be daddy's little girl."

The woman leaned down and kissed her daughter's forehead before stroking her daughter's golden locks of hair.

"I am completely proud that you are behaving like a big girl, but always remember that you should ask any member of the family for help in case you want to do something very complicated.

I'm worried that you might try to do something that might hurt you. Even if you're a big girl, you need to take care of someone while doing complicated actions.

In addition, you must also behave very well while you meet your grandfather. Remember that he is already an older person and does not have as much energy as you do.

We will be at grandpa's house for a week before we have to return to the launch pad where your father's rocket took off, however you can spend two full weeks with him taking advantage of the holidays you have at school.

Since I have a business meeting in Buenos Aires from where I will travel to Patagonia to get a good space for the company.."

Emma smiled, revealing that she was missing a few teeth.

"Yes mom, I'll be very nice while I'm with grandpa. I'll also do my best not to cause any trouble for him like a big girl."

The woman patted her daughter's head. "I'm glad that as a big girl you are being fully responsible for the actions you will take.

Also, a reward that you will have as a big girl is that you will have the privilege of sleeping at 9 at night instead of 8."

Emma smiled quite happily, as she knew that she would be able to watch her cartoons on her tablet for another hour before bed.

"Thank you mom, you are without a doubt the best mom in the world."

The woman sighed and kissed her daughter's forehead before getting up. "Now go brush your teeth while I clean up the mess your dad left behind.

Sometimes I wonder why he is still so careless despite being quite responsible for his work, but even though he has his flaws, I love him with all my heart."

Emma left her mother talking to herself while she ran to the bathroom so she could brush her teeth with her dinosaur toothbrush.

When she got to the sink, she took her toothbrush and put some gum-flavored toothpaste on it while she started brushing her teeth.

As we brushed our teeth, she started humming her favorite song that she had been listening to for the past few months and had really liked quite a bit.

"When I was just a little girl, I asked my mother, What will I be…"

Little Emma brushed her teeth while she kept singing, "Que sera, sera…"

When she finished brushing her teeth, she smiled and looked at her reflection in the mirror, so she carefully scratched her cheek before putting away her toothbrush.

After this, she left the bathroom of her room and went to the kitchen. While she went down the stairs, she could hear the noise of the television.

'The plane crash that occurred in Greece this afternoon was the most devastating Europe has faced in recent years.

All the people died on the flight that had left Mexico for Greece.

Among the most important victims are members of the Mexican army, who were heading to an event abroad.

The first reports indicate that it was a mechanical failure caused by poor care of the plane, although the expert reports will take some time to give a solid answer.

We have just been informed that the smallest victim on the plane was the daughter of one of the soldiers who was traveling.

The little girl Erika had only….'

Emma who wasn't paying attention to the news they were reporting took her plastic spoon and started to eat her cereal.

Emma's father who was paying attention to the television frowned as he watched the images of the plane destroyed near Greece.

"It's a real shame that so many innocent people have had to die from mechanical failure alone.

But it was an accident that could have been avoided, however that only shows that the people in charge of maintenance did not do their job correctly."

Emma who didn't understand what she was saying to her father just turned her head and looked curiously at the television.

At that moment, she could see a completely destroyed plane, so she scratched her small forehead and turned her head to look at her father.

"Dad, something like what happened to that plane isn't going to happen to us, is it?"

Emma's father smiled and stroked his daughter's golden hair. "Don't worry, we are completely safe since our planes have to pass a higher review process than that plane had to receive.

In addition, we are going to leave the continent. We are simply going to go to Alaska where Grandpa lives, not to mention that the safety of the plane will increase due to the fear of being destroyed by a mechanical failure.

Not to mention that the chief engineer of the airline where we will travel is a good friend, so we are not taking any risks.

Although it pains me to say it, sometimes accidents allow people or companies to realize mistakes that they had not seen before. It is a bit cruel, but the suffering of others can help improve the lives of thousands.

But don't tell your mother that I said those words to you. Let this be a secret between us."

Emma smiled and nodded. "I won't tell mom anything we said, but can I have some candy before I get on the plane?"

Emma's father sighed and showed two of his fingers "You can only have two small packages of candy because your mom will be mad if she gives you more candy and it's a long flight so it's not a good idea to make her mad…"

Emma's father's words were interrupted when Emma's mother entered the kitchen. "What things are you talking about so I can hear you talking quietly?"

Emma flashed an innocent smile. "No big deal mom, dad was just telling me about how beautiful Grandpa's house is and how fabulous the space is."

Emma's mother frowned before shaking her head at her. "Just don't plan the destruction of the world before breakfast…"

At that moment, Emma opened her eyes and could feel a drop of cold water wet her face, so she got up from the ground.

The first thing she could see was a large amount of shabby furniture as well as a large hole in the wall.

Which revealed a city in ruins which was completely silent, the only noise being the rain that was falling heavily.

With her hand, Emma wiped her face and after that she turned her head to see the Chihuahua sleeping next to her before leaning against the wall and sighing as she tried to contain her tears.
