Chereads / The Hectic Life Of A Supernatural Huntsman / Chapter 21 - Unraveling the mystery

Chapter 21 - Unraveling the mystery

Looking at the bodies one last time, Lucien smashed the last lamp on the floor and watched as the raging flames quickly lit up the room before they spread across every corner of the room in the blink of an eye.

Turning back as he quickly headed for the door, Lucien ran through the hallway following the directions that he had used to get up here.

Quickly arriving at the window that lead to the backyard of the abandoned building, Lucien didn't hesitate as he immediately made his through the window and arrived at the fence which he had used to get in.

Jumping over the fence with a single leap, Lucien made sure to soften his steps so as not to draw the attention of the policemen stationed around the surrounding area as he had done before mistakenly.

Crunching down as he hide behind one of the officer's vehicles, Lucien slowly made his way out of the blockage as he immediately ran off into the night, his speed breaking past the limits of even that of a trained olympic athlete. Running till he was out of sight.

One of the qualities of a huntsman is to know how to use one's surroundings to the absolute limit.

Moving around undetected whether it was day or night, they hunted down the monsters that threatened the peace of the everyday life of ordinary civilians.

After all, what is the use of a huntsman that doesn't know how to hunt its prey?

......

"Wee woo!!" "Wee woo!!!"

The passersby gave way as a stream of police cars passed by without stopping.

Their sirens turned up to the maximum so that those up ahead would notice the incoming emergency and give way for the police cars to easily pass through.

In one of the four police cars, a man putting on a red long sleeve collar shirt with black fitted trousers to match his outfit turned his head to look at the middle-aged man sitting beside him and said.

"Officer Gaston, Can you please tell me what happened again?".

"Alright detective" The middle-aged man responded with a respectful tone as he looked at the young man sitting beside him.

"You see yesterday someone had sent a call to the station stating that she heard a series of gunshots in her neighbourhood. Suspecting this to be a gang fight that had broken out between two or more gangs, we sent over some of our policemen to check the situation and see if they could apprehend the suspects"

"But after some few minutes later, a caller with the same caller id that had reported about the gunshots in her neighbourhood reported that there was a corpse lying in the middle of the road with several bullets on its body"

"Seeing that the situation might be more dangerous than it seems, we reported back to officers to inform them of the updated information, and to also tell them to proceed with extreme caution. After they had arrived at the crime scene, it didn't take long for them to pinpoint the location of where the fight had broken out, which was said to be an abandoned building. From there, everything was going fine until a fight between our officers and the suspected gunmen broke out again"

"From then on, we didn't know what had happened except that we had lost communication with all five of our officers that were sent to investigate the crime scene" Officer Gaston said as he breathed out weakly.

"Fearing that the worst had happened, I took several more officers with me to the location. And it was only after we got there that we found out that all five of the officers sent were…" Officer Gaston halted his words before he continued once more.

"They were dead. Every single one of them was shot dead by a bullet. Except for the other two….. Their corpses were torn apart. It wouldn't be an understatement to say that they died in a very painful and brutal way".

"But I read in the newspaper that two of the officers were held as hostages and only three of them had died" The young man said with a frown on his face.

Shaking his head as he immediately disagreed with the young man's word, officer Gaston said.

"That was only a cooked-up story we had made for the media. Although we planned to completely cover up what had happened and make sure that the public doesn't know about it, we also knew that doing so would be completely impossible. So instead, we mixed some lies with some truths".

"For now, the public only knows that a serial killer had gone on a killing spree yesterday and had killed several civilians before a group of policemen had arrived to stop him. And it only took the death of three of them before the criminal was apprehended. Although some people had cooked up their own story about the matter which was to be expected".

"So you lied to the public only about the deaths of the policemen. What about the other two? What would you two do when the truth comes out?" The young man shook his head as he said.

"We didn't have a choice. How could we offer up the corpse of a disembodied policeman to his family and tell them that he had been brutally killed on duty while they looked at the disfigured corpse of their family memberer in grief?"

"The only reason that the other three officers were reported dead to the public and the other two been held as hostages was because the other three only died with a bullet shot on their body…." But his words were interrupted by the young man sitting beside him.

"And since the station doesn't know what had happened, and have no idea who the perpetrator was, then there was no way the public would find out the truth. So you only did what you did to prevent the city from falling into panic".
