It was the next day and I had just finished my coffee. I was in my office doing paperwork when my phone rang. I looked down to see it was the hospital and I quickly stood up from my seat and answered it.
Dr. Hopkins voice was on the other end and before she finished her sentence I was racing out the door and down the stairs. I threw the front door open and ran towards the infirmary.
The rogue was stirring and her heart rate was running high, so they were expecting her to wake up.
I ran into the clinic and down the hall until I came near her room. The door was open and Dr. Hopkins was standing near the monitors as a few nurses were standing by. One was holding a syringe with yellow liquid in it and the other was holding a fire extinguisher.
I guess this time they weren't taking any chances even with the straps holding her tiny wrists down. I moved closer to her bed and watched as her body twitched and her eyelids fluttered. She started to whine and then suddenly both her arms tried to shoot up, but the straps prevented them from moving very far.
Dr. Hopkins had a worried look on her face and moved closer to her iv drip to adjust it.
"Don't, she needs to wake up. A little pain isn't going to kill her." I said sternly.
Dr. Hopkin's gave me blank stare and then slowly moved away from the drip. The girl started whining more and soon her eyes began to flutter open. She shut them back again tightly and her head rolled to the side as she moaned in pain again.
Her eyes opened again this time slowly and she blinked a few times to adjust to the lighting. Her green and brown eyes looked straight to mine and soon she moved them from me to the other people in the room. Out of no where she began violently banging her head back against the pillow and started screeching.
She tried to move her arms and legs, but the straps held her down and soon she was growling and barking loudly trying to snap her teeth at anyone she could get near.
"ENOUGH!" I boomed my voice over her horrible shrieks and soon she stilled her body, but stayed growling and showing her teeth warning me to not come close.
I narrowed my eyes at her and proceeded to take a step closer towards the bed. No child was going to try and threaten me. As soon as I did though she began belting horrible barks one after the other like a wounded animal.
I took a step back and put my hands up to show her I would keep a distance and she eventually stopped barking. Her body began to tremble as she looked around the room again and tears started to roll down her small cheeks.
"So what are we supposed to do now? As soon as we take the restrains off she's obviously going to just attack."
Dr. Hopkins kept her eyes on the girl as a sad look waved over her face. I could feel the guilt and sympathy she was having for her, but it wasn't going to help anything.
"She's scared, if we can gain her trust then maybe she won't feel like she needs to protect herself."
I scoffed and looked back at the girl. Her tears had stopped as she was now intently watching me and Dr. Hopkins talk. She cocked her head to the side and narrowed her eyes at me as if she couldn't figure out what I was.
I took a step back towards her since she obviously knew how to control herself. Then again her eyes went wide and the belting howls and cries were let out as she struggled to try and move away from me.
I groaned in annoyance and stormed out of the room. I looked back at Dr. Hopkins and she stepped away from the girl and met me at the door.
"Get her eating, I don't care if you have to force it down her throat." I said in an aggressive tone.
She sighed and shook her head at me.
"She needs to trust someone she needs someone to stay with her for a while so she can start becoming familiar with them and relax."
I shrugged my shoulders.
"Okay then stay with her or one of them." I said gesturing towards the nurses.
The girl began growling again at the two nurses and they both took a step back from her bed.
"No."
I narrowed my eyes at Dr. Hopkins and puffed my chest up ready to use my Alpha influence.
"What do you mean no?"
Dr. Hopkins crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow at me.
"You may be my Alpha August, but don't forget I used to change your diapers. I've had my kids and they are grown up now. I'm not a baby sitter. I'm a doctor and I have a job, a family, my own personal life."
I ignored the diaper comment and tried to push the embarrassed feelings to the back of my head. I softened my face and looked away from her for a minute.
"What do you suggest then?" I asked.
"Well, you were the one who brought her here and you are the one who wants her to talk so.."
I put my hand up and cut her off before she could finish.
"Absolutely not I'm horrible with children and scare them."
She chuckled after a minute, but then her face went serious again.
"I have a feeling she can handle it."
I groaned in annoyance and looked back at the small girl that was strapped down to the bed. She was still banging her head back and trying to pull her wrists free from the restraints.
"Fine, I'll baby sit for now until I figure something out."
Dr. Hopkins smiled at me in approval and walked back into the room. I stayed in the hallway and watched as they finished checking her lines and tubes. After another minute they all began walking out of the room and down the hall leaving me alone with the child.
I watched as she stopped struggling against the restraints and started looking around the room again curiously. I finally decided to step back into the room and when I did she let out a low growl and began baring her teeth and snarling at me.
I rolled my eyes at the tiny girl that was trying desperately to look leathal. I grabbed the edge of the plastic chair I had sat in many times and pulled it closer to the bed and sat down. She continued to try and move away from me against the restraints and I stayed silent as she whined and yelped to get free until she finally tired herself out and fell asleep.
I sighed in relief when she finally did and ran my hands through my hair. This would take forever and even then I still might not even get anything useful from her. I stayed in the room with her and she slept for an hour before she woke up again.
She tried to stretch her arms but the restraints weren't allowing it. She huffed in annoyance and when her eyes landed back on me she began belting her howls again.
"Stop it!" I growled loudly.
She listened, but kept her eyes on me as she tried to jerk her hands free every so often. We stayed in silence after another hour and she had given up on trying to free her arms.
She had been staring at the ceiling and keeping her breathing even. After a minute though she started to squirm and her legs started shaking. She started whimpering and soon there was a strong smell of urine in the air.
I jumped up from my chair and the small girls whimpers turned into full blown tears and crying. I knew what happened and felt just as embarrassed over it as I'm sure she did. I quickly left the room to find a nurse and whispered into her ear about what happened.
She nodded and quickly went to find some help. Soon several nurses were walking into the room with buckets of water and towels. Once the curtains were pulled to give them all privacy the sounds of growling and snarling were heard again as I'm sure the nurses were going to struggle to change her sheets.
I decided this was going to take a while and headed back outside and away from the clinic. I went to the main pack house and took a quick shower and then made my way to the kitchen.
I tried to look around for something that might entice the girl to eat and started throwing random things into a bag. I wasn't sure how I was going to get her to eat, but I had to at least try. I opened the fridge and when I found a small packet of lunch meat I grabbed it and threw it in the bag too.
I picked up an apple that was left in the fruit bowl and decided to take that for myself. I took a bite out of it and grabbed the bag before heading out the door. I started heading back the path that lead to the clinic, but I took my time incase the nurses still needed it.
I stayed outside until I finished my apple and then finally forced myself back through the entrance doors. I made my way down the hallway until I came up to her room. The curtains were pushed back and I could see she was still awake. I pushed the sliding door back and poked my head into the room.
"Are you hungry?" I asked trying to sound as friendly as I could.
She didn't look at me or growl though. Her eyes stayed trained at the ceiling above her and I took my same seat again next to the bed. I noticed the buttons on the side rail that controlled the angle of the bed. I pushed down on the up arrow and slowly her head started to lift until her bed had her fully sitting up.
She let out a low growl at me, but refused to look in my direction. I reached into my bag of goodies until I found a blueberry muffin. I pulled it out and held it up to show her. She looked at it for only a second before fixing her eyes back on the glass window ahead of her.
I moved it closer to her face and she flinched back from me, but eventually she looked back at the muffin I held and sniffed at it curiously. She scrunched up her face at it and moved her head back to look away from me.
I shrugged my shoulders and took a bite from the muffin. She didn't look back at me and when I finished it I started to dig into my bag again to find something else.
