Chereads / Emerald’s Fire / Chapter 7 - Chapter 6

Chapter 7 - Chapter 6

The girl refused everything I offered and I had ended up eating all of the food myself. I had made sure to call the nurses back in every few hours so that there wouldn't be anymore accidents. She had to use a bed pan, but it was better then nothing at all.

When it got late the girl had fallen asleep and I pushed the down arrow to lay her bed back flat. There was a couch in here, but I had been debating if I could get away with just going home and sleeping there instead.

After another hour though my eye lids started to get heavy and I made my way to the uncomfortable couch and laid down. It didn't take long for me to fall asleep as I listened to the sound of the girls small snores.

I woke up when I smelt smoke  I sat up on the couch I could now see a line of green fires trying to catch against the bottom of the couch where my feet were. I jumped up to my feet to keep them from burning and looked down to see the small girl with her head turned towards me.

Her green eye was glowing and she was focusing hard on the couch. I took a step towards her and when she sensed my movement her concentration broke and her eyes went wide. She went to open her mouth and I knew the yelping was coming. I put my hands up and took a step backwards.

I looked down to see the fire was now gone, but the couch had been burnt. I groaned in aggravation and ran my hands through my hair. I turned back to the girl who was restrained to the bed and she kept her eyes fixed on me.

"How are you able to do that?" I asked not really expecting an answer.

She didn't either and kept a blank expression on while staring back at me. I shook my head and walked over to the other side and sat back in the chair like before. I pressed down on the up arrow until she was fully sitting up like before.

It wasn't long after that a low grumble was heard from the girls stomach and I gave her a knowing look. She flicked her eyes away from me and back out the window that showed the hallway.

"You're wolf is going to stay weak if you don't eat." I said as I leaned back in my seat still looking at her.

She slowly moved her gaze from the window and to me before looking away again. I huffed in annoyance and tried to think of something that she would like. She wasn't even interested in the sandwich meat I brought and I had saved it for last thinking she'd gladly except protein if all else failed.

'She doesn't want your pathetic human food'

I rolled my eyes at Zeb and ignored him. I wasn't going to let her hunt and definitely wasn't going to let her shift and risk her running off. She can't starve herself for long, eventually she'd have to give in.

After another thirty minutes of silence two nurses came into the room and each carried a tray in their hands. On the trays were two covered plates and I could smell that it was breakfast. I stood up from my chair and took one of the trays from the nurse. She nodded to me and left the room, but it was only a minute before she was back rolling in a table.

She rolled it to the girls bed and when she got close the girl started growling. The nurse stopped rolling the table and then quickly backed away. I muttered a thank you and sat the tray down on the side table and the other nurse set the other tray down next to it. They both left the room and one of them closed the door behind them.

I picked up one of the trays and sat it down on the couch I slept on. I moved the table until it was across the girls lap and fixed the tray so it was in front of her. She let out another growl at me being so close, but I ignored it and picked up the container to reveal the food that stayed hidden underneath.

It was a plate with a big pile of scrambled eggs and a side of bacon and sausage. The steam rose off the plate and the smell filled the room making the girls stomach rumble again. I chuckled and sat down in the plastic blue chair next to her. I picked the fork up from the tray and stabbed at the eggs before holding it up to her face.

She sniffed at the fork and then scrunched her face up before looking away in disapproval. I tried to move the eggs back in front of her face, but she only yanked on the restraints and tried to move away from me again. I put the fork down and then picked up a piece of bacon instead. I held it up to her and she slowly moved her head back to look at what I had.

She sniffed at the bacon in my fingers and licked her bottom lip after a minute. She was looking at the piece of bacon hard, but seemed to be holding back from actually trying it. She flicked her eyes to mine and I took the bacon back from her and took a bite of one end of it.

"See it's fine." I said as I chewed on the greasy meat and swallowed.

I held up the end I didn't bite from back in front of her and she kept her eyes on me and then eventually back to the piece of meat I held out. She sniffed it again and looked back at me as she slowly leaned forward and then quickly snapped her teeth over the food.

I brought my hand back fast to keep her from biting my fingers and she practically inhaled the piece of bacon and soon it was gone. She hummed in satisfaction when tasting it and soon she looked back down at the pieces that were still on the plate. I noticed and picked another piece up before holding it up to her again.

This time she didn't hesitate in biting at it and once again I had to jerk my hand back fast enough to keep her from biting me. I stayed doing this until all of her bacon was gone and moved on to the sausage links. She smelled it and started taking it in as fast as the bacon.

When there was nothing but eggs left I decided to try again and held the fork up with the same piece from earlier. She immediately turned her head from it showing me she still wasn't interested. I put the fork back down and stood up to take the tray.

At least she ate something, finally.

I took the tray into the hallway and sat it down before coming back into the room. I sat on the couch and brought the extra tray into my lap to eat. When I removed the cover and steam rose from it I immediately picked up a piece of bacon and put it in my mouth.

I felt eyes on me though and looked up to see the girl watching me eat. Not really at me though I could tell she was eyeing the meat on my plate and I internally groaned.

"You should've eaten the eggs." I said to her.

She flicked her eyes to mine, but kept a blank expression. I rolled my eyes and stood up and brought the tray and sat it in front of her. I continued feeding her my bacon and my sausage until there was nothing left but eggs again.

I took the fork and plopped some of them into my mouth. I looked up and the girl was watching me with a disgusted look on her face.

"They're good and you would know that if you would try it."

She didn't respond and looked away from me as I finished the eggs on my plate. When I was finished I got up and sat the tray outside next to the other one. When I came back into the room the girl was again trying to free her hands from the restraints.

I took a seat back next to her and she eventually stopped struggling. I tried to think of what I could do to help pass the time or try and make some kind of headway with the girl. I wasn't sure how I was supposed to get her to trust me, but I guess accepting food was a good start.

"Do you know what your name is?" I asked making her head turn back to look at me.

She didn't give anything away in her face and I wasn't even sure if she understood anything I was saying. For all I knew I was speaking a foreign language to her and that possibility worried me.

I pointed to my chest and looked at her.

"Alpha August." I said sternly as I poked my chest when saying my name.

She didn't say anything back, but she didn't look away either. I let out a breath through my nose and then looked through the bag I had brought. When I found the collar she had been wearing I pulled it out to show her.

Her eyes went wide and the shrieking started again as she yelped like dog and started to thrash in the bed to get away. Her eye started to glow again and suddenly a small green fire had started on the table the nurse had rolled in. I stood up and quickly pushed the rolling table back and away from the bed.

"Stop! It's okay I'm not going to use it!" I yelled while holding the collar up to show her and tossing it to the ground.

She stopped screaming and howling and the fire slowly went out on the table. She stayed thrashing though and growling trying to free herself from the restraints. I threw my head back and cursed at myself .

So much for the little progress I had made with breakfast. Now I was back to starting over.
