I picked Chelsea up and cuddled her in my arms as I headed for the kitchen, my sandals still strapped to her feet.
Hopefully, if she was going to get mad at me for staying out longer than planned, the sight of Chelsea would calm her down a little.
I'm sorry Chels, but you're getting useful for me right now.
"Here I am." I announced as I stood by the kitchen's entrance, my arms around Chelsea as I cradled her to my chest, my whole attention focused on my mother who was currently slicing a round melon into smaller pieces on a cutting board, the sounds of the knife meeting the board resounded around the kitchen on and on.
She looked up from what she was doing, her head covered by a big wine coloured bonnet, her mouth tugging into a small smile on sighting Chelsea in my arms.
