Mrs McCain saw the fear in her eyes, she knew that Accalia was going to decline the offer. She didn't want that to happen, she wouldn't let it happen. Accalia only locked herself in her room, she would hear her sob sometimes but Accalia never told her anything, until now.
"You are going to attend the interview tomorrow right?" Jane asked while Accalia said nothing.
Accalia swallowed a lump on her throat, the name of the company gave her strange feelings, she couldn't understand whether it was happiness or fear.
Strange feelings.
"I-i can't go Mrs McCain. I-i don't think I feel comfortable stepping outside the house alone," Accalia stammered, looking down on her plate of breakfast.
"Until when, Lia? You can't keep on hiding anymore, you have to be strong for yourself. It's like a new beginning, try it and see where it lends you. Do it for me Lia, I want this for you, please." Jane gave her puppy eyes.
Accalia took a deep breath. She wasn't sure about this but Jane was pleading with her and she couldn't find the strength to say 'no' to her. She wasn't sure if she was ready for that chapter.
"Don't think too much about this Lia, everything is going to be okay. Who knows, maybe you might find the man of your dreams there." Jane winked at her.
The man of her dreams.
'Amber eyes'.
It was all just a dream, no man would want to be with her after everything that Davis did to her. Her past was terrible.
"Please..." Jane pleaded.
"I-i will go Mrs McCain...b-but w-what if I fail the interview?" Accalia asked with a stammer.
"Just be yourself Lia, I'm sure that they will choose you." Accalia nodded slightly although her heart was racing. She picked up the dishes and washed them and it came across her mind that she didn't have any proper clothes to put on for an interview, just her long plain dresses to hide away the ugly scars that Davis gave her when he forced himself on her.
She felt Jane's warm hand on top of her cold one. "What are you thinking about Lia?" Jane asked worriedly.
"N-nothing Mrs McCain. I don't have any proper dress to wear for the interview." She voiced out at once.
Jane had bought her many designer dresses that the young woman wore but Accalia never found herself saying yes to put them on. She didn't feel comfortable in any of them.
"Not to worry. I have everything sorted out already." Jane grinned widely but not before pecking her on her forehead. Accalia felt strange, Jane reminded her of her late mother Arlene, despite being a stranger she still accepted her as her own and took her in.
"Okay." Accalia muttered simply. She couldn't wait for it to be night time already so that she could see those eyes again, amber eyes.
Jane yearned to see Accalia smile just once, she has never smiled. How she wishes to see her smile just for once.
* * *
After taking her bath she looked at herself in the mirror, trailing down her hand on her scars. The ugliest one ran down her stomach to her abdomen, Davis almost killed her that day when he stabbed her with a knife. She almost saw death coming to take her on that day and she was willing to accept it wholeheartedly.
"Lia, please hurry up! You have an interview today!" Jane snapped her out of her daze.
She looked at the neatly ironed white suit that Jane had put out for her, she picked it up and wore it. The skirt was long enough to reach her knees and that was enough for Accalia.
Jane offered to do her hair and Accalia accepted. Her long black hair was tied up in a ponytail, Jane also applied some light make-up on her face. Accalia looked perfect and more beautiful than she has ever been before, like her dad's princess.
"You look like an angel. They won't keep their eyes off you." Jane kissed her cheeks. More fear engulfed Lia, she has never liked to be the centre of attention.
"Let's go, we're running late already." Jane held Accalia's hand in hers as they made their way out of the house to Jane's car.
"Don't be scared, I will be waiting for you outside the building," Jane said and Accalia nodded.
Accalia took a deep breath before getting out of the car, holding her handbag tightly to herself. Her hands were shaking with fear, this wasn't her.
"You can do it darling. Make me proud!" She heard Jane screaming inside the car and she swallowed a lump on her throat.
Her heartbeat increased when she saw the building before her, it was huge. It was strange that besides the name of the company there was a wolf logo, a silver werewolf with..with amber eyes. A shiver ran down her spine, the place gave her chills. When she got to the entrance door, she started sweating. Many people were walking up and down, doing their own respective works and she stood there like a statue glaring at them.
Some looked at her strangely, especially women. A neatly dressed gentleman walked up to her.
"Hello, can I help you?" The gentleman asked calmly with a visible smile on his face.
"W-well i-i came here for an interview f-for—"
"Calm down Miss— I didn't get your name."
"L-Lia McCain."
"Nice to meet you Lia, I'm Jackson. You said you came here for an interview right? For the secretary position?"
Accalia nodded slightly. She still felt strange, the whole environment was strange. She also wondered who the CEO of the company was and how he was.
'He must be an old man.' Accalia thought.
"Miss Lia, are you still with me?" Jackson asked and Lia snapped her head to look at him.
"Y-yes of course." She was nervous.
"Follow me. Other candidates are here already waiting to be interviewed, it's not just you so I suggest that you calm down if you need this job Miss Lia, Ephraim is not that hard to face you'll see. I suggest you try to calm down and don't stammer, yeah?"
"Okay." Accalia answered simply.
"Sit here, they will call you in when you're scheduled soon." Jackson said with a smile. Accalia felt relieved that there were other people sitting, waiting to be interviewed. Deep down she knew that she wouldn't be chosen for the job because she was an introvert and so very insecure about herself. Other candidates looked more confident than ever, they didn't seem nervous like she was.
"Good luck. Take my advice, take a deep breath and calm down." He winked before leaving and a blush didn't fail to reach Accalia's cheeks but it didn't show much.
They called the next candidate in, she was to go in after a blonde guy who was sitting besides her. He looked nervous as she was, maybe less than her because she was super nervous than anyone.
"You look nervous as I am." The blonde guy chuckled softly.
Accalia nodded her head once and looked away from him.
"I hope they pick me. I really want this job, it has always my dream to work here. This is the biggest company in Oklahoma city and I don't want to lose this opportunity." The guy looked desperate, she thought. She didn't want the job, she just did it for Jane's happiness and nothing more. She doesn't like crowded places and the place gave her strange feelings. Somehow she felt as if something of hers belonged there but she didn't know what it was and it scared her.
"Mr Stoll, it's your time to go in." The blonde guy who's name was Jerry took a deep breath before going inside the office.
Accalia sat there alone, wondering how the interview would go for her. Who was the interviewer? Was he going to be tough on her? Was she going to pass even though she didn't want to? All these questions ran across her mind like a tidal wave.
"Miss McCain," the lady called. Accalia's heart skipped a beat.
"It's your time to go in now. Mr Ephraim is waiting for you." Accalia's breath h itched, her legs wobbled but she still found herself inside the office with her head bowed down.
