Chapter 14 - Chapter 11. A blizzard

"Is everything alright? You look unusually pale, my dear." The Queen put her hand on my shoulder asking gently.

"My Lady, I am... always pale... But I guess it's just fatigue."

"Maybe you should rest?" The King entered the hall. He looked somewhat disappointed.

"If you say so..."

"Go, Tamara, have some sleep." The Queen hugged me softly, trying to comfort me as she does to everyone.

I smiled and went to my room. On the exit, I came to the King and whispered 'I'm sorry...' I found fault in myself for all that happened. I felt as if my actions fucked up all the destiny thingys he foresaw... I knew it was illogical in some way, but I still felt it.

He wanted to say something, but I didn't stop to listen. He understood.

The sounds of laughing maids woke the slumbering vampire up. The room was dark as a crypt, the only light was coming through the gap between the door and the floor.

The one which whom the vampire shared the bed was gone. Long gone. The sheets were dead cold.

Was she afraid? No, not that girl. Was she, perhaps...

The sudden knock at the door broke the chain of thoughts forming in the vampire's mind.

"Yes?" Groaned they.

"Your lordship, do you need something?" Asked the voice sheepishly from behind the door.

"Who are you?" The voice was unfamiliar and it was frustrating for their lordship.

"My n-name is Medea. I-I am y-your servant for today." The voice was cracking, 'Out of fear.' thought the vampire.

"I need blood, Medea. I guess it's already lunchtime..."

"Y-yes!!! I will inform the King, y-your lordship! You... c-can do your morning r-routine and g-get dressed in the time." The voice sounded terrified. "S-see you!" And then the voice, presumably, rushed down the stairs.

Ah, sweet Medea, ridden with horror, poor little maid. Dull. Boring. Uninteresting to the very bones.

Sadness overwhelmed the vampire. Pure and sudden sadness. No one understood... Not even their moonshards.

The vampire took the advice given by the frightened maid and unwillingly started "the morning routine", doing everything slowly and sadly.

After some time their lordship left their chambers and passed down the stairs.

The blood was decent, thought the vampire. Their knights thought nothing.

People were eating their meal too. The air in the room was heavy, the atmosphere uneasy. The silence became unbearable and their lordship finally broke it with their jolly voice:

"My maid... Never saw her today..."

"She is..." Started the Queen, but soon was interrupted.

"Tired. Tired and sleeping." The King was far from polite. He tried to contain his resentment towards the honoured guest.

"Is something happened?" Asked the guest, mockingly, smiling wide.

"Oh, stop the charade! What have you done to my maid, so she've come to me saying sorry while on a verge of crying?!" The King failed at his trying pitifully flat.

"I did what she asked, great King, nothing more... And nothing less." The vampire's face became serious.

"What was it?!"

"Freedom."

"What?!" The King was fuming. He remembered his dreams... "What freedom...?" He thought that he made a great mistake, that he misinterpreted them, and of how it was too late to do something... "Did y..."

"No, no, no! Nothing that bad! I... guess?" The Bloodlake chuckled, regaining their big smile. "Do not worry, it was only a one-night stand." They frowned.

"You... Our maid? You...?!" The Queen was shocked, to say the least.

"It seems you're overstated our welcome, your lordship. Please, care to remove yourself and your knights from our home." With these words, the King left his seat at the table and stormed out of the dining room.

"Your wish is my command, great King." Waved the vampire after the leaving King.

I heard knocking. Gentle knocking at my door.

"Who is it?" I asked, turning in my bed.

"Me." Answered the voice that I would never forget.

"Is it..." I sighed. "Something I can do for you?"

There was no answer for some time, but then the voice said:

"Just want to say goodbye. My moonshards have said to me it will be a polite thing to do."

"Oh... Goodbye then, your lordship..." I was upset by their words... Huh, did I hope for an attitude of a different nature towards me? Oh... Oh... I did. Huh...

"I don't think we will ever meet again, Tamara, though I managed to remember your name."

"Do not worry, you will soon forget it. I am quite forgettable."

The wind was howling outside the mansion. The snowfall intensified.

I had always liked winter... I'd always been like this...

For the remaining week, I stayed in my room... And for the next... And for the week after...

Inside of me a blizzard of desolation was raging.
