Chapter 2 - Nyx

Immediately Nyx stumbled into the parking lot of the deserted motel, she sensed that she had fallen into a trap. They were not visible yet but she could feel them, she sniffed the air, they were the same rogues that she'd been avoiding for months. She pretended to not notice their movements and casually sniffed the ground as if she was searching for something. She gave them an A+ for effort, no pack had ever found her sanctuary before, they had to be very good hunters. She extended her forelimbs and stretched her bones. She was sore from running and was itching to shift back to her human form.

"Well well well, who do we have here?" A singsong voice mocked, the owner of the voice, a hefty built man, with sandy brown hair and olive skin, stepped forward.

The rest followed closing in on her. If Nyx was in her human form, she would have rolled her eyes, but she wasn't, so she did the next best thing. She scratched her ears with her paw and grunted. The owner of the sing-song voice laughed.

"I had almost given up on ever seeing you again Nyx, but as luck would have it, I found this." He said dangling her bag which contained her clothes and a few essentials over her head. She leaped in a bid to grab it but he swiftly snatched it out of her reach. "Here here, take it easy Nyx Lebron, we'll hand your stuff to you as soon as you agree to be a nice little girl and follow us home." He said patronizingly.

Nyx snarled at him, her claws elongated as she readied herself for battle. The wolves surrounding her snickered.

"Well I'll take that as a sign that you're going to submit the hard way, I thought you'd be wiser, considering that you're largely outnumbered." The man said, tossing her bag out of the circle as he shifted into his wolf.

Nyx paced around, gnarling and taking note of the wolves surrounding her. Rogues were naturally tougher than pack wolves and these were no different. This group of rogues though were thin and looked hunger-stricken, with mangy pelts. They smelt of death and blood. Interestingly she noticed that they all had a distinct brown patch of fur around their neck, and legs. Their leader who had the same markings was considerably larger and looked more nourished than each of them. Despite his size, he was no match for her malicious pure white wolf. She towered over them all, exuding power and dominance that belonged only to Alphas like her.

Like the calm before a ravenous storm, there was dead silence in the parking lot. Nothing moved, Nyx calculated her next move. The reason why she'd chosen the motel as her home was because it was secluded from both humans and werewolves. While humans didn't wander into it because it was surrounded by tall trees that gave it a haunting look. Plus the fact that the motel itself, with its broken dusty windows and falling signposts, looked dangerous enough that it scared humans away. Werewolves on the other hand avoided that area because it was too close to human settlements. Two dusty beat-down cars and a trailer that served as her home were the only things that occupied the large parking lot.

Her wolf was livid that they'd dared to disrespect her, none of the wolves baring their teeth at her could get close enough to touch her fur on a normal day, but right now, they could easily maul her. Her ears pricked, and with swift ease, she crouched low, then leaped up and tore out the throat of the wolf that had attacked her as he flew over her. He landed dead at the feet of their leader. Blood dripped from her fangs and stained her immaculately white fur. Their leader howled out in pain and all the wolves came for her at once. With surprising agility she jumped above them, biting into the belly of the unfortunate wolf that attacked from above and flinging him away. She landed on two wolves who like others were stunned from crashing into themselves, In the space that she had previously been. Her weight bore them down and staring into the eyes of their leader who had crouched low, in preparation for an attack, she tore out their throats. Then jumped to the spot where her bag landed, grabbed it, and sprinted into the forest in mini seconds.

She was not stupid, she knew that she didn't stand a chance and that killing those wolves had driven their leader crazy and so she ran, despite her wolf's need to prove her dominance. It was better to stay alive and fight another day, she chided her wolf as they fled into the forest. She could sense them running after her, they were male and supposedly had more speed than she did, but they didn't have the type of training she had. She increased her pace and delved deeper into the forest, rubbing her fur on different trees that could mask her scent and confuse them. Her limbs ached, she wanted to stop and rest but their persistence egged her on. When she was sure that she had lost them, she relaxed a little. Masking her scent would keep them busy and confused for a while.

She came to a stop, dropped her bag, and shifted into her human form. She then hurriedly threw her clothes on and continued running. She needed to find a safe place to hide until she was sure that they'd given up on her. She checked her options, the air around the forest told her that she had entered another territory that could be more dangerous than her rogue enemies. Lost in thought she tripped and fell on a naked body. The wolf before her was badly Injured and had just shifted back into his human form. Blood gushed out from the deep cut on his belly. He reeked of terrible power and rage. She should have continued running but she didn't understand why she yearned to remain close to him. He was strikingly handsome and had a touch of feminine beauty and so against common sense, she decided to help him.

Sitting cross-legged, she opened her bag and produced her first aid kit. The moment she touched him, power radiated from him into her. She didn't know if it was the power he wielded or his very kissable lips that kept her there. He had a strong jaw, round lips, and a straight nose. His feminine face did not match his very muscular body or broad chest. There were not many people who could pull off looking soft and deadly like he did. Nyx had to keep herself from caressing his chest as she bandaged it. His dark wavy hair, though matted with blood, called her. She found herself wanting to bury her nose in it. He smelt of pine and lemon, with a hint of vanilla.

"Vanilla," she chuckled.

It was hard to take any man smelling like vanilla seriously, but the wolf beside her looked like someone that everyone took seriously. Her wolf was in a frenzy, it wanted to come to the surface and see the wolf that triggered its senses. Smelling her arousal Nyx was disgusted with herself. She didn't know who the man before her was, and she was still in grave danger. She needed to be done and on her way. She carefully cleaned the bloody wound that had slowed his healing. After applying her secret potions that aided healing, she began to wrap him up. What she did not know was that he was as aware of her as she was of him.
