Chapter 14 - Chapter 11: Check For Bites!/Arc 2.2

In the capital city of C Country, citizens hurried through the streets with purpose. Cars of various colors moved at a moderate pace along the main roads.

The air was polluted by the angry honking of drivers as huge billboards showcased ads of high end products. Two young teenage boys hung out while smoking in an alleyway. As they laughed and jeered at each other, a figure slowly approached them.

The taller boy noticed the figure, which dragged its legs on the stone ground, treading slowly. When it was a few inches away, it raised its head, revealing the face of a man in his thirties.

Drool dripped down his face as he stared hungrily at the two boys. Noticing the man's gray skin, the younger boy felt a chilling feeling as he tried to express his concern. Before he could make a sound, the man lunged at them. A scream pierced through the air but was covered by the noise of the large crowds.

Only a few days later, cases of multiple people exhibiting strange and dangerous behavior were reported all over the world. The victims all seemed to have been bitten by someone before experiencing the drastic change in behavior.

The government quickly handled the situation, passing it off as a rabies variant to civilians, and contained the people. Scientists were then appointed to study the patients in an attempt to find a cure.

The news soon reached Zhou Jian and Wang Tao's ears. The two were informed of the real situation and became suspicious. Wang Tao expressed worries that this may be signs of a zombie virus, having visited a few worlds where this occurred.

Trusting his friend, Zhou Jian decides to secretly make preparations for a possible apocalypse. He had a feeling that if an apocalypse occurred, it would be very soon.

Two weeks have now passed by and strange events occurred around the world. At first, humans began to feel a scorching heat grow more and more hellish during the days and a freezing cold at night, so cold that even inhabitants of tropical regions suspected they were experiencing winter.

The amount of rabies cases grew to the point where the government had to lockdown the country. They advised citizens to only go out if necessary and avoid crowds.

A day before the inevitable event, many began experiencing extreme flu symptoms and became bed ridden. By midday the following day, half of the people who fell ill woke up in perfect condition. The other half immediately started attacking nearby humans once they awoke.

Screams could be heard throughout the cities as people fled their homes in fear. The streets were quickly filled by panicking crowds as zombies appeared left and right, devouring the frightened humans.

In a matter of days, the zombie population quickly grew and people tried to flee the populated cities. Highways and roads were blocked by the cars and wreckage, as zombies wandered around the earth, searching for human flesh.

At the same time when humans were falling ill, Wang Tao and Zhou Jian were still at the military base near G City. Wang Tao quietly entered and sat in front of the big desk, waiting for the general to finish his work.

As he finished up, Zhou Jian felt himself slightly burning up. He hid his discomfort, knowing that Wang Tao might notice if he showed it slightly. He didn't want to worry the young man.

Wang Tao was quietly staring at the man, taking in every detail of his face. From the short black hair, phoenix-shaped blue eyes, aquiline nose, thin lips to the chiseled jawline.

[ Sigh…I've never seen a human so handsome before…]

"Wang Tao, did you come here just to stare at me?"

Zhou Jian snapped the young man out of his daze.

Wang Tao blinked slowly before realizing his mistake. His ears reddened in embarrassment as he looked at his friend who was gazing at him expectantly.

Clearing his throat, Wang Tao quickly informed his general that all the preparations for the possible apocalypse were complete and all that was left was to wait and see.

"That's good. Let's go, I'm done with my work."

Zhou Jian put away his work and rose to his feet. Wang Tao hummed in agreement and stood up to follow Zhou Jian. The two had planned to head back to the capital where the Zhou family lived as Zhou Jian's father asked for him to return as he hadn't seen his son in a year.

Unexpectedly, just as Zhou Jian took a few steps, his view darkened and he began to feel dizzy.
