CHAPTER 2
EVERYONE INSTANTLY stopped running around the court chasing the ball after hearing the loud whistle from their coach.
"Damn it, Fuego! What is happening to you? Focus on the game! You are acting like you haven't eaten for a week! Time out!" Their coach yelled at Hacov, who was really admitting the mistake.
After his recent argument with Psyche, his mood for playing today has vanished. Sighs. I am supposed to shoot that ball. But he didn't. Instead, the ball is really only one meter away from the net, and that is strange. He is known as a shooter.
"Dude, what happened to you? You're acting so weird. It seems like your mind is floating." James appeared while they walked towards the bleachers to drink some water and rest for a while.
"I just haven't eaten yet. I'm hungry," he lied.
All the players went to their own places, and most of them had their girlfriends around waiting with bottles of water and towels. Damn, how I wish I had also had a supportive girlfriend like them.
"Aw, I don't see Psyche around, Hacov. I can replace her today if you don't mind. I can see she is really not supportive." He suddenly heard a girl's flirty voice from behind him, and he already knew who owned it. Valerie.
"Shut the fuck up, Valerie, and don't you ever bother me again," he said, and drank some cold water from his tumbler.
He is irritated with that girl. Not just him, but almost all of the jocks in school. She is really a pick-me girl, trying hard to get herself a bae from one of the popular guys.
She also has the looks, but her style and attitude are really a turn-off for the guys. Valerie's family are actors and actresses, but not so famous for their lack of exposure. And she, being the daughter of an actor and an actress, surprisingly sucks at acting. She doesn't even possess a real talent. She only stays at this school because of her family's wealth and donations.
"Oh come on, Hacov. You can give me a try. I will make sure I'm worth trying after all," she said, biting her own lips as if she could seduce a guy easily.
"Aren't you ashamed of what you are doing, woman? Get the fuck out of my face," he said, and finally walked away. He's glad to see her face look pissed and defeated.
"Thirty seconds left, boys. Get yourself together!" Their coach yelled, and they stood up to get ready. Before finally going back to the court, he picked up his phone from the pocket inside his bag and texted Psyche.
"I'm sorry, love. Let me visit you later, okay? I love you."
After texting, he returned his phone back to his bag and heaved a deep breath before running back to the court. Finally, he can focus on the game after saying those words through a text message to his girlfriend.
PSYCHE SMILED after reading the text message she received from Hacov. She got up from her bed, combed her hair, and put some light make-up on her already beautiful face. I knew he would come.
She thinks that instead of staying at her place, she would rather want to spend time with him outside. Yes, a date. She almost forgot when it was the last time that they ate their dinner outside together, or went to the park, or wherever it is. Hacov is really busy training and practicing these days and couldn't spend quality time with Psyche, even for once.
"I really hope he won't make any excuses again to leave," she said to herself while putting a very light lip gloss on her soft lips.
It was near seven in the evening, and she patiently waited for him to arrive, call, or even send a text message, but she received nothing. She wonders why their practice took so much longer today than usual. He was supposed to be at home at six, but she didn't mind. Silly me. Maybe he is also getting ready.
She went back to laying on her bed and covered her face with her two palms as if someone was going to see her tears warning to fall. Did he forget me again? She was nearly going to give up, but suddenly, her phone rang, and she almost jumped in excitement seeing Hacov's name on the screen.
"Hello, love? I'm ready. You can pick me up now," she said excitedly, with her biggest smile, but then suddenly vanished after hearing a sigh from the other line.
"Love, I've got a sprain on my ankle," he said. Is it one of his lame reasons again? She gets worried, but her disappointment is more dominant.
"So don't tell me our meet up is cancelled. Again," she said.
"Psyche, please understand. If you want you can visit me here at the house, so you will see," he said, convincing his girlfriend to believe him.
"I believe you. But do you know how I feel? I got excited and you ruined it again. Just like how you do everytime," she said, and without even waiting for his response, she cut the line.
HACOV almost threw the phone against the wall after the call with Psyche. Can't she just understand me for once? He glanced at his foot, which was now covered with bandages. He slipped after making a dunk and sprained his ankle.
He badly wants to make it up to Psyche, but an accident happens. He wants to send her a message again to explain his side, but the pride is eating him up.
It is not always Psyche who has the right to feel mad all the time. He has feelings too, and that is what Psyche has never realized yet.
"Hacov, come down now! Dinner is ready," he heard her mother's voice from the first floor, but he sighed. He didn't know how many times he would sigh on this day.
I lost my appetite. He chose to just lay on his bed and watch an action movie when he suddenly got a message from Psyche.
"I'm sorry, love. Eat your dinner, okay? Don't practice yet until your foot is fine. I'll visit you tomorrow. I love you!"
He smiled and felt the relief that his heart was seeking. Damn, I love my girl. "Coming, mom!" He yelled back at his mother and did a limping walk until he reached the kitchen.
"Jesus, you just have to wait for me inside your room! I am supposed to give you your dinner, you silly boy!" His mother worriedly came to support him on his walk after seeing his condition.
"Mom, I'm fine. It's just a sprain and I'm not a baby anymore," he said sweetly to his mom.
They ate together without his father, who is still abroad taking care of his billionaire patient. He can't wait for tomorrow to arrive and finally make it up with Psyche.
