Chapter 41 - Chapter 11.2

Five hundred years ago, such outbursts were much more frequent and occurred all over the world, but five centuries ago, as the transfer occurred in a relatively small area. Somehow we were able to understand from our captors that the area was about the size of Kvestry and was called the Waste Lands, or the Waste Kingdom. The calculation is very rough, as the natives were oriented on foot and horseback. There was no preference among the perpetrators of the transfer process. Cities could have been cast out at the very edge of the Void Kingdom or in the very center, as it happened to us.

Every transference draws in a bevy of creatures, natural sources of evil, creatures of darkness, even demons. In addition to the mass transmissions that throw thousands and thousands of living creatures from another world onto Inruus, there are also pinpoint transmissions, through which the most nightmarish creatures of the universe, such as demons and demonic beasts, poisonous clouds (perhaps the atmosphere of some planet), anomalies that violate the physical laws of most worlds, and more, pass most often.

The transference did not take place instantly. It usually took some time - days or months - for the walls between realities to thin out. During that time, the living beings of the two worlds were affected by a force that we immediately dubbed magical radiation. It increased the aggression of living beings, caused miscarriages or mutations of newborns, and gave some people special abilities, but they were crude and unclassifiable, though strong enough that lower-level local mages could never reach. None of these mutants (that's me, Eduard and Lucas, maybe someone else we don't know about) need the magic formulas and spells that are taught to mages in special schools in this world. But we could not use external mana either, expending only our personal reserves, our life force. It was akin to hard work, unloading a car full of sacks of cement, planks, and so on. That's why Lucas influence on me and Eduard is so good, and we all benefit from tonic and vitamin preparations. In that we can give a hundred points of advantage to local mages, who may not fit the etheric currents, or be affected by kickback, disease, or the effects on their mano channels in the body.

Every city and village transferred from another world becomes the target of thousands of people, from a simple mercenary team to a mage to a ruler. There you could find a special weapon that turns a lowly baronny with a team of fifty drunks into the equal of a commander, who stands over a thousand soldiers and a dozen mages. A lot of gold, silver, luxury goods, unprecedented furniture and dishes, clothes, fabrics, and... yes the list is endless. About eight people out of ten in this world live in an era comparable to the twelfth or thirteenth century on Earth. The remaining two come close to the seventeenth century in terms of luxuries, household goods, and development in general. It is clear that the best and richest people live in the states that border the Empty Kingdom, and the most dangerous ones, too. Then there are nations and countries where only the richest and most powerful have metal, the rest use stone, bone, and wood products. Cloth is rare and most often it is replaced by leather things and woven from various improvised objects, which Mother Nature rewards.
