Chapter 47 - Chapter 11.8

The test showed that death does not occur immediately after hitting a piece of silver. Rotting begins to spread from the wound site, a kind of gangrene in dead zombie flesh. The farther the wound is from the brain, the longer the decay process takes. A hole in the tibia would lead to complete decomposition of the creature in two weeks.

- And we didn't bother to check and monitor," Oliver scratched the back of his head. - And so it turned out.

Our handymen had scraped together some hoards of silver jewelry and cast a shot which we inserted into several hunting cartridges. During one of the trips to town, the stalkers shot them off and upon their return reported that the critters walked on them as they did, even with a dozen silver peas in their chests and bellies.

- Will you take us with you? - Ella suddenly asked.

Everyone looked at her with surprise.

- And what, we can leave? - Oliver was sincerely surprised.

- Well... it depends, - she was embarrassed.

- Sure, of course. We are not animals, or the last of the vipers.

- There's also a kindergarten near here. There are live ones there, too. Only to them there was no way to get - quickly said Kianna. - And you can.

- Kindergarten? - Oliver asked again.

- Yes, we can. We sometimes flicker with a flashlight. From the third floor from the toilet, you can see the roof, and there's also a window. The building is all overgrown with some kind of vines, but there are definitely some living ones there.

- I wonder how many of these small groups survived in the city? - whistled Alex. - And how many people in this kindergarten? We won't be able to load them all into our cars, a dozen or two is the limit.

- There are two buses in our garages, one for the fuzz and one for the OMON," said Aden. - The bus is brand new, it was brought in a month ago.

Then in our walkie-talkies hissed the voice of the head of the group of cover, who at the moment held back the onslaught of shadows and mutants in the courtyard of the police department:

- Are you coming soon? There are more and more of these things coming into the courtyard. The shadows are gone, but there are a lot of mutants! Move it, or you will have to grease your heels with lard without anything!

- So, - Oliver hurried up, - we'll talk later. Now we have to take the weapons and ammunition to our cars in the yard, and then let's see what's with the cars, and after all this we will try to break through to the garden ...

We broke through.

The two-story pink building under the slate roof was entangled from top to bottom of a giant creeper. A two-meter-wide fence of thick metal bars with sharp four-sided tips surrounded the area, on a brick foundation with brick posts. Alongside flowerbeds and houses, plywood cars and airplanes, fairy-tale characters, beds of tomatoes and cucumbers were growing by the windows of the kindergarten, fat stalks of potatoes, radishes, sorrel, and lettuce were piling up.

- What a greenhouse! - whistled one of the warriors. - Is it tomato season?

- Watch out with these tomatoes, they're strange, - said Oliver to him with a frown. - Something tells me, that they and those buttercups were grown by Greaves himself.
