Chapter 29 - Chapter 9.4

The arrow struck the zombie in the stomach, and... that was it.

Even I heard the long curse the girl let go.

- Well, maybe it needs more arrows or a head shot," - the prompter tried to calm her down.

I started up again and added speed to catch up the "sable" with Eduard, who lagged fifty meters ahead. And then happily yelled Mia. At first I took her shout as a warning and automatically pressed the accelerator pedal to the floor, turning the car to the left and then immediately to the right, deciding that we attacked one of the chimeras, which met the size of a cow or even larger.

- Quiet you, Alex, quiet! - calmed me down namesake. - Okay all, it's zombie died!

I looked in the side mirror, then turned the steering wheel to the side, so that the picture was complete, and saw a zombie lying on his back in a suit, from whose belly sticking out a shaft of an arrow, like a flagpole, and a long plumage - a banner.

While we were examining the finally dead, a crowd of the dead began to gather around the car of our comrades, which had stopped to wait for us. Golems with short spears got out of the car (the reenactors called them stubby palms for some reason) and made a massacre of the revived monsters.

- Why were you all cowering there? - The fire mage snapped at me when I stopped the UAZ near his car. - Something with the car? What were you shooting at?

- They were testing the arrows on the zombies," the namesake answered. - Everything works, but not right away. It took about twenty seconds for the corpse to die.

- I knew it worked," - he muttered. - Don't waste time, we have three more blocks to go.

After chopping up the zombies with our golems and pushing the remaining cars out of the way, we drove on. Behind the garages began a territory of high-rise buildings, such places are called sleeping areas, and we did not expect much from him.

But Eduard had other ideas and views. The "Sobol" suddenly turned sharply to the side, rolled over the curb, clanked either the protection or the muffler, and drove under the shade of tall linden trees, under which stood a small pavilion with the inscription "Cell phones, electronics, accessories" on its circumference. As soon as he stopped next to it, zombies began to flock to the trees. We had to release the golems and bring out the scouts to destroy them.

- What do you want to find here? - I asked and pointed to one side of the building. - Look, they took out all the windows, for sure they had time to make a mess inside. What use were headphones and other stuff, anyway?

- Do we need walkie-talkies? - He answered with a question.

- А?

- The fellows said that there were several kinds of radio stations sold here. There were even sets of four-channel radios with high-capacity batteries. I'm sick of not being able to communicate with each other.

Everything inside was trashed and there were traces of blood. Apparently, someone decided to hide here, but was very unlucky, since they found and ate every last bone. Or the remains had been absorbed by a necrotic chimera.

The glass cabinets were all broken, a couple of them lying on the floor, some of the shelves of those that had lost only the doors were empty, others were filled with boxes of software, some stacks.

- Yes," - shouted one of the scouts, cheerfully, and pointed to a corner cabinet, inside which lay several small radios. Tiny ones, with antennas in the form of plastic pips about four or five centimeters long.

- At least something, - said Eduard disappointedly. - Look for the charger.
