Stalker nature did not allow us to leave the electronics pavilion empty-handed. The guys took a few tablets and cameras, someone took a laptop.
- I'll play or read a book," - explained one of them. - E-books only hold a few days' worth of power, and I'm not going to spend hours with it. So one charge is enough for a long time.
They had just stepped outside when a warning cry came from the archer:
- Shadows! Two of them from the panel and one from the barrier!
Two shadows silently flew out from around the corner of an eight-story panel building to our left, ignoring the lilac and rose bushes, and so flew through them, hovering about ten centimeters above the ground. Another shadow appeared at the red-and-white plastic barrier that closed the entrance to the courtyard of the brick apartment building on the right.
- They've got us surrounded, bitches," - his namesake yelled. - Get in the cars! Let's move it!
The shadow on their right was over a hundred meters away, the couple about seventy meters. While the scouts almost flew into the cabin as fish, they halved the distance. And at that moment the archers fired.
Lera targeted the right one, her partner one of the pair of shadows.
I managed to see how the girl's arrow struck the black ghost in the chest and freely skipped on, lost among the bushes. Whether or not her colleague had hit, I did not notice.
- Come on! Come on! - Someone in the cabin hurried me.
The golems were still outside, but that was the least of my problems. They'd either catch up with my car or make new ones.
Another arrow pierced the ghost when there were ten meters between us. And almost without result. Only a strange red dot was left at the point of impact. Unfortunately, it had no effect on the shadow's speed.
And then I turned the car around and pressed the gas pedal all the way to the mat. The sable whizzed by, knocking out a couple of zombies and driving over one, crushing its head into a bloody pancake.
I wasn't going to watch the results of the shooting, so I stopped only when I got out of the garages and into an empty space where there weren't even any zombies. A few seconds later, the Sable was standing beside me.
- Well?
Almost in one voice, I and a few other scouts said. And from above came Mia's satisfied, adrenaline-shaking voice:
- Everything is super! They're burned!
From the short story I learned that after the arrow hit the shadow, it slowed down a lot. In addition, a bright spark appeared in the wound, which quickly grew into a flame and the entire shadow burned out in a few seconds. From the outside it looked like a sheet of thin paper with a lighter flicked in the center. At first a hole appeared from the flaming tongue, with burning edges, which quickly spread out in different directions, turning the paper into ash. The same thing happened to the shadows.
