Chapter 7 - Transfer -> Wanderer

Vain was shocked at the large numbers which led him to ask only one more question, "How many levels are there?"

"That one is not known, and secretive on how many levels we can tell you about, but I can guarantee you that there are about 5 million people just on level 1. Whether they just stay for just a day or a week, it is the comfiest floor for most people due to the Hub which is mostly in our MEG's control besides the BNTG that really gives most control to us."

"Wait then shouldn't I see a few more people?"

"Well, most people stay on this level for the relative safety so there are towns which are usually built around doors to the Hub. I guess I should tell you this information. These towns charge one almond water and one piece of food, like an apple, a bag of meat, and basically any food items, but if you choose you can pay with two bottles if you don't have food on you.

"Alright, anything else? If not let's go and test your skills and tell you your test to become an official Wanderer!" The guard stood up and prepared to leave.

Vain also stood up, "I think that is all I have to ask."

The pair walked together to another room with a target. "Aim and shoot. If you hit the target three times and we will move on to a moving target slowly moving which you have to shoot three times again. Last will be a quick-moving target that you only have to shoot once. You will have three chances for all."

Nodding his head, Vain got ready thinking about how they didn't ask anything about removing his very clearly visible weapons. The non-moving target was a fair distance away at 80 yards. Lucky for Vain he is talented in the first place, so his little experience doesn't affect him much besides where he hits the target.

Next is a target that is slightly above the first one that starts to move. Vain grabed arrows that were provided that he hadn't noticed before. Shooting the target, besides almost missing his first shot, the other two arrows are closer to the center.

Someone comes out and takes the arrows off both targets and steps aside again just as the target starts to move at a significantly faster pace than before. Vain shoots once and misses and hits the second shot which he feels was more of a lucky shot, so he shoots again only to miss and sigh.

The person on the field went to pick up all the shots he took, and the guard waves Vain over to another area to test his hatchet that has been settled by a holster that would be used to carry a hammer, given to him by John.

"First attack the target with all your strength, then do three quick attacks in the same spot, and lastly do three fast and heavy attacks. We will check your speed and power, but since you have claimed to have killed a hound with your hatchet, we will mostly be checking for the sake of keeping this professional. Also please don't hit one twice besides your quick attacks."

Vain took up his hatchet and hit the target, but he was surprised at how hard it was to cause damage, being a bit harder than your average tree. He was only able to leave a gash that was only 6 cm. deep. Attacking as fast as he could, he could only leave a wider cut, but only reaching 5 cm. deep. The last three attacks all averaged around four to five cm. deep.

"Hey what the hell is this thing? It feels harder than a tree to which it looks similar."

"Actually it is a tree here. Everything here is stronger in certain aspects than whatever your world had on average. That being said you are most definitely one who has worked out. Your body is in better shape than most when they first arrive, which means you can have a better starting position, and you can skip the training should you desire. Other than that let me tell you how to become an official Wanderer.

First, you must find enough bottles to pay your fee of 10B. To make sure that this doesn't become pointless, all bottles must be acquired without using outside connections. Next, you must find both a melee weapon and a ranged weapon you feel comfortable with, you already meet this requirement, so you don't have to worry about it much unless you want to use another melee weapon. Lastly, bring the body of an entity that isn't a faceling which is the only friendly entity for this level.

Any last questions before you are sent on your way?"

Vain took mental notes of everything needed for him to become a Wanderer, "Yeah I have a few questions I only thought of now. First Before you said I am speaking the most common language, so does that mean I will run into people speaking a different language? If so do I need to learn another language?"

"The leaders of M.E.G. spoke this language, so they have standardized it to the point that everyone needs to at least speak it somewhat. We also learned that besides the fact that there were so many languages in reality, this space makes all the languages split into only three separate ones. Even if the language you are now speaking isn't anything like your last language, this place makes you feel that this language has always been the language you have spoken."

"Next I would like to know about where I can stay, and where can I change my bottles into the common money?"

"Just go somewhere labeled hotel, and for a credit card, you need at least five bottles as the base value for your card and a Wanderer identification. So! If that is all let us move on and send you on your way."

"That's all thank you for your explanations." As the pair was walking out of the room, another pair was walking past, it was obvious who was getting tested as one looked nervous, and instead of a gun and sword, the man only held a fire ax.

Walking past the pair, the two men leading nodded to each other, and the guard with Vain spoke up, "Already another? Is the other testing room already taken?"

The other man leading nodded, "It was filled, and I knew you should have been nearly done if you weren't already. I kind of assumed that you just forgot to check it out, you lasted so long." Saying those words the man looked deeply at Vain as if he was judging his ability.

After checking Vain out, the man had a look of disdain, "So another one to be sent to the training room." The man spoke with such confidence as if he already saw through him.

Vain's guard just laughed loudly, "You should really be sent to be humbled if you judge him as a trainee. The man passed with flying colors! You need to get out of this office, even your muscles are not what they used to be when you arrived! HAHAHA!"

The man looked offended, but still kept his head up and walked past the two of them with the nervous-looking man in tow.

The guard spoke up after seeing that the man had left, "Ignore that idiot. He not only turned the page but also passed the test and paid his due when he arrived. It was this that caused him to look down on others since he believed only the great people could do what he did."

The pair both shook their heads at the same time and continued to the exit.

At the exit, the guard spoke up and pointed to a stand across the street that had a huge container, "If you just want Almond water, go there and pay a bottle of Almond water for two. The catch is that any opened bottles of Almond water lose their value as currency, but there are places to get water without bottles that are completely safe. So unless you want to be pricy, and drink straight out of a new bottle, it is a decent way to get more Almond water.

Alright, that's all. I hope to see you in the near future."

"Wait! I never got your name?"

"O' that. My name is Ted, but names aren't that important unless you decide to work here like I plan to do for most of my life. That is the curse of having children! HAHA!"

"Alright. Now see you soon!" Saying his last goodbyes Vain decided to first have a small look around this area before getting that Wanderer identification as soon as possible.
