Following George, he told a receptionist to get a wanderer Identification going for Vain, to which she started to ask Vain some questions that Vain answered easily. George then looked to Athena while Vain wasn't paying attention.
"Hey, little girl follow me and we shall get you to a safe place."
Athena screamed at this moment, "He wants to hurt me!"
Vain stopped everything he was doing and focused on Athena, and found a strange smile on George's face that he found creepy. "Hey if she doesn't want to listen to you wait until I am done so you can start the procedure for the adoption."
At this moment the receptionist gave Vain a breath of relief, "Hey since the poor girl doesn't like you I can take care of everything instead of having someone else do it. Also don't you need most of the papers filed by the person who would be adopting?"
George was obviously annoyed, but since the receptionist was a co-worker he couldn't say anything more. So he left with a quick, "Do what you want."
The receptionist frowned, "He is weird. I'm sorry about that just fill out these papers for the Wanderer's ID, and I will get your papers for adoption."
Vain didn't really understand what happened but he was happy he didn't have to deal with more problems. While filling out the papers, Vain saw that receptionist put another packet of papers to the side, "For the adoption fill out everything that is highlighted, and make sure you read everything and understand it."
After giving Vain an hour of paperwork, the receptionist turned to Athena and gave her a bright smile, "I will be asking you some questions in the room behind here to know the whole story. You don't have to worry for I won't hurt you."
Athena smiled and looked to Vain before nodding her head, "Alright!"
Half an hour later both girls returned While Vain was still only halfway through the adoption papers.
"Alright sir, you have been deemed at the most basic at least a decent adult that can take care of a child. We will expect you to come back for an inspection to know if you are truly ready to care for this child. As the papers have written, you may come back to have her brought back and put in an orphanage if you realize that you made a bad decision."
Vain simply nodded absentmindedly while looking through the pile of paperwork that its size doesn't give it enough justice for how time-consuming it is.
Another half an hour a dizzy Vain was being led out of the building by Athena. It was only ten minutes later did Vain finally able to walk normally, thinking that if he ever meets another child in the level he would most definitely only take them to M.E.G. and nothing else.
Vain got directions to Tom's Diner in hopes of meeting Pops and getting some answers if possible.
Arriving at the Diner, Vain realized that it was most definitely a top-class restaurant. Just based on the first dish he had seen, Vain saw a dish that had fresh fruit as a side dish if someone wanted it.
The staff quickly came up to him, "Excuse me, sir? Are you here to make a reservation, or do you already have a reservation?"
"Oh no, I was looking if a man that goes by Pops? When I last met him he said that I might be able to find him here?"
The staff looked surprised, but still smiled, "I know who you are talking about, care to tell me how you know him?"
"I met him on my first day and he helped me through it."
"Alright then, wait here and I shall see if your words are true, so what is your name sir?"
"Vain"
The staff bowed and left to another room. After about a minute the staff came back and smiled at Vain, "Please follow me."
At this point, Vain really realized that the joyful old man he had originally met was truly special. Walking through several different doorways, Vain found a bar with several men and a couple of women drinking happily.
Vain saw Pops drinking straight out a bottle of vodka as if it was water. "Hey Pops, how are you?"
"Vain! Looks like you came to see me so soon!" Pops raised his bottle and spoke loudly as usual, "I thought you would give me a week before seeing me!"
"Well, I just got my Wanderer's ID just today so I came to see you. I even adopted a girl that I just met."
"You must be crazy!" Pops looked in Athena's direction to which Athena stared straight back at him. "Hah- you must be one special child if you can convince random people that you are worth adopting on your first day here!"
Vain smiled since although Pops called him crazy, Pops didn't insult him and simply went to talk to Athena as well. "Hey, Pops? Can you explain to me what is so bad about adopting a child? I was called a fool too many times."
Pops gave Vain a surprised look before laughing loudly, "Most people leave children that they meet on the beginner level since if they cry or make a scene there, death is the most common thing. If you adopt a child usually means that you will start to work for a big organization like MEG, but I can tell you if the child isn't raised right you will just suffer under the might of the backrooms. After all, death is a common thing."
Despite Pops' serious words, he didn't sound all that serious since he spoke loudly as he always did. Vain smiled since he knew how mature Athena was and he knew he was still going to explore this new place. "Pops I know little Athena here is the most mature child under 18 that you will ever meet! Granted her age is only barely reaching 7 in a month."
"HAHA! That's great! If you truly believe she is that mature I might just take her from you to raise myself!"
At this point, a man who was sitting nearby asked loudly, "Athena? Isn't that a god's name?"
Another man nearby answered him, "Yeah I think it is the god of hunting and archery."
"No! No! It is a god of wisdom! You are confusing her with Artemis."
"Well, where I came from it was a god of hunting and archery."
Vain was surprised and asked them, "Are you talking about the goddess Minerva?"
"No that is a Roman goddess that is similar to Athena."
"Roman?! Athena is a Roman goddess."
The argument kept getting wilder until Pops shouted at them, "HEY STOP! Different places have different gods so stop arguing! I didn't even have a Roman or a Greek! So apologize and drink."
One of the men lifted his glass drank and spoke, "Let us drink for forgiveness."
A sound of agreement arose and everyone drank again. "Let us drink for the gods in the real world." Again a sound of agreement sounded and everyone drank. This went on for almost ten more rounds, and Vain was sure that they started the argument just to be able to have an excuse to drink more.
At this moment Pops finally remembered that Vain was here and laughed loudly like always, "I forget that you aren't here to drink! Come sit you two! Tell me you already got your Wanderer ID? That is faster than most since they usually have to earn enough money to rent out a cart to carry a body back, or for those who don't, take at least a week to carry the corpse back to MEG!"
