Chapter 226 - Exodia 226: Identity Crisis (1)

"Are you listening to me, Rin?"

"Huh, uh, yeah."

Kafka and Rin were having a date in a cafe in Shibuya. While Kafka was talking about her past experiences with girls, Rin seemed to be in another world completely. He blankly stared at her, unconsciously agreeing with her.

He wanted to find that girl with black-haired and crimson eyes. He wanted to know more. However, also, on the flip side, he did not want to.

If he did find her and regained his memories, would the ones he has now disappear? He is Rin, not Shoya Sasaki. But, the existence of Rin is what cost Shoya and stole his life. If Shoya Sasaki came back into the world, Rin would have to disappear.

Kafka sighed as she set down her cup of expresso. Her eyes changed from an emerald shade to a violet one. Her irises became white crosses.

"I know there's something up with you. Knowing you, it must be about yourself. Since we met the Ankh recently, I'm guessing it's about them. Tell me, or I'm breaking up with you."

She was forward with her approach. Rin was taken aback. He knew that she would find out eventually but he believed that now was too soon.

A waiter came and put water on the table.

"Uhm... Water for table seven."

"You ordered a water?"

Kafka asked Rin.

"I don't like coffee. I have trouble sleeping already, I don't need to consume caffeine, which would not help with the problem."

The waiter turned to the blonde-haired girl.

"Is there... something wrong with your eyes?"

"Hm?"

She noticed the girl's unusual eyes.

"They're contacts. I just like ones that stand out."

"O-oh, is that it? Sorry, they just look unique."

"No, it's fine, I get it all the time."

The waiter bowed and went to another table.

"Using that Singularity in public is risky."

"It's fine. I mean, as long as I'm not using it physically then I can use it. Besides, if I didn't use it, I wouldn't be able to predict what you were thinking."

"Adaptability, huh..."

They left the cafe and walked around Shibuya, doing different things. They entered different shops and had fun. They fought in an arcade, ate some special burgers at a restaurant, and did some shopping. However, Rin did not enjoy this part. He was equipped with a multitude of bags that were all for Kafka. She had two bags in her hand for Rin.

The cashier winced at the stupidly high price.

"Uhm... Your total is ¥6,780,930. Would you like cash or card?"

"Are you stupid? Who carries around that much cash? Let me pay using a card."

"Right away."

He got out the card reader and inserted the price, giving it to her.

Kafka entered her pin and the cashier stared at the card reader, waiting for it to decline. Instead, it displayed, 'transaction successful.'

He stared at Kafka, dumbfounded.

"P-please come again!"

He shouted as they left.

"Where did you get this much money from? I remember you busted your whole account on those cars and dresses a few days ago. You brought a mansion for us too."

"I helped a bunch of nobles lately and they were kind enough to pay me for my hard labours."

Rin slightly doubted her statement, knowing how selfish some nobles were.

"How much did you get in total?"

"¥4,600,000,000."

"Four—?!"

He cut himself off, shocked at the amount that she had received.

"We don't even get paid ¥2,000,000 for the jobs that we do and you procured that much from the banquet?! Are you sure that you didn't steal any money?!"

"Who do you think I am? I may be crazy about money but I always acquire it through legal means."

The man sighed.

"You're right."

"We're set for life now! We could just live in the penthouse alone, just me and you! We could have a kid or two and we would still have lots of money left over!"

They turned into an alleyway. Kafka was happily imagining their fictitious life together.

"I don't mind that type of life but..."

"What is it?"

They both stopped. Kafka stared at Rin, furrowing her brow. She was honestly worried about him.

"You can talk to me about it."

"Well... I think I found a clue to who I was."

The girl's heart skipped a beat.

"At the banquet, one of the SSB officers saw Albatross' face and identified him by name. Albatross has the same face as me. That means that I was that person. I found someone who recognised me and..."

Kafka dropped her bags and hugged Rin. She began crying.

"Kafka..."

"No... Don't... I don't want to lose you. I've already lost too many people in my life... I can't lose you now."

It seemed like Kafka was afraid of the same thing that Rin was. She was afraid of losing Rin forever. She did not want him to regain his memories.

Rin smiled and patted Kafka on the head.

"You're right. I'm not the person I was before. You named me. I'm Rin. No one else."

Kafka pulled away from him and wiped her tears. He pinched Rin's nose and pouted.

"If you leave me, I'll never forgive you!"

"Right, right."

"Uhm, excuse me!"

From behind them, a woman walked up to them. She was a beautiful woman. Her hair was snow-white and she had pale skin. The woman had sunglasses. She wore a cropped blue hoodie and black cargo trousers.

"Have you finished following us?"

Rin asked the woman.

"Oh, so you noticed. Well, that makes things easier. Could I—"

Kafka snapped towards the woman—she stabbed her with her hand. The girl stopped before her face. The white-haired woman did not flinch.

"As I suspected, you're a Streia too."

"Yes, that's why I followed you. I wanted to ask—"

Rin was already behind the woman. He cloaked his fist in shadows and launched it towards her. She stepped away from it and tripped him.

"Oof!"

He fell onto the ground.

"A fur coat with the kanji, 'Rin,' on the back of it. So you're the one who's been destroying the drug cartels."

"Who are you? Someone who's been sent to get rid of us?"

"Not exactly. I just want to talk with you all."

"Talk my ass. You would've done so when we were fooling around."

"I don't want to talk to you."

Rin jumped off of the ground and returned to Kafka's side.

"I want to talk to him. We shouldn't fight here since there are a lot of people at both ends of this alleyway. I can reap the consequences but... can you two?"

Rin was ready to rush in but Kafka stopped him. She grimaced while looking at the woman.

"Fine, but only on one condition. Who are you?"

"Me? I'm a friend."
