'Black Exodia?'
That's what the girl told me. She said that "Black Exodia" is the name of my ability. So, if all of what Kuro is saying is true then...
'You're saying that eight powerful beings, Emperors, are going to come and kill me?'
Please say no, please say no, please say-
'That's exactly what I'm saying.'
Kuro said, with a straight face.
I collapsed onto my knees, holding my head as I thought about the future to come. I just entered a whole different environment without wanting to and now I'm destined for death!
There's no way I can survive now!
'There's a way for you to survive longer.'
'Did you just read my mind?!'
'No, it's just that it's written all over your face.'
Ah, of course. An average person like me can't disguise extreme emotions when it comes to things like death.
'So, tell me the way I can survive!'
Kuro narrowed her eyes and stood up.
'I never said anything about you surviving. I'm only suggesting a way you can survive longer. Keyword, "longer..."'
No matter what, I can't survive.
'Just don't show your powers in public. Those Emperors are probably thinking about the next reincarnation of the Black Emperor. Once you reveal yourself, you'll be on a short leash. As long as you don't reveal your powers to others early on, then by the time you reveal them, you may-just maybe-be able to handle an Emperor on your own. Though if you do survive a head-to-head encounter with them, you'd have probably already used up your whole life's luck.'
On the last sentence, she ended with a mini laugh and scoff.
That's going to be easier said than done. I can't use simpler abilities, spells, and I won't be able to use my Singularity. I don't even know if my physicality is superhuman. In the end, I'm just an ordinary kid attending a school for superhumans.
If I don't do anything, I'll be left behind and ridiculed. Who can help me?
Ah, I know who! Though, it's going to have to wait until the morning since I don't think she'll be available right now.
I'll just have to rest until the morning...
--
In the morning, I woke up and got ready for school, though I woke up slightly early. By slightly, I mean at around 7 in the morning. Kuro was sleeping merrily, so I tried my best to sneak out without waking her.
The first place I wanted to go was the faculty room. There's a teacher that I want to ask a favour of. She may be lazy outside of school, however, if she's true to her job, she should be there.
I entered the main building and travelled to the cafeteria.
I remembered something that Tatsuya told me during break.
He said something like:
"If you can find the cafeteria, then you'll be able to navigate yourself around the building flawlessly."
Though... I have no idea where the faculty room is. Even from here.
'Ummm... Excuse me.'
A voice called out to me.
Turning slightly, I see a girl. She's holding a stack of papers. I couldn't see her face because of it, but I noticed her silky, long, black hair.
For some reason, I drawn to it.
'Excuse me...'
'Ah, sor-ah!'
As I moved aside, I nudged her a little and the papers went flying all over the floor.
Panicking, I rushed to the floor and started to pick up the papers.
'S-Sorry, senpai, I'll pick them all up! You don't have to do anything!'
I declared while reaching for the papers.
Gah, what was I doing?! Why was I so mesmerised by her hair?!
'You don't have to do it by yourself.'
The girl said.
She kneeled down to my height and put her finger around her hair, scrapping back her hair.
Her eyes were glistening in the sunlight. They glowed like purple gems.
Her lips were illuminated by the sun; I couldn't help but notice their pinkness and smoothness. Then came her black hair. Different from Kuro's lightness hair. It was the hair of a true Japanese.
She was a beauty...
'Plus... I'm in the same year as you. I'm not a year or two above.'
'Really? You're a first-year too, who'd figure?'
As we piled the papers into two stacks, the girl sighed as she gave me a shift look.
'You must be a transfer student, right?'
'Yeah, how'd you know, you good at guesses?'
'No, it's because you don't know about the ties.'
'Ties?'
'White is for first-years, black for second-years and yellow for third-years.'
They really had such a system. I should've played attention to the other students so that I could've figured it out for myself.
I picked up a stack and followed the girl naturally. She didn't even ask me why I was doing it. Instead, we conversed.
'What's your name?'
'Shoya Sasaki.'
'Well, Shoya, I'm Akane Kabura.'
'Geh, already on first name basis, are we?'
I asked, creeping away instinctively.
Kabura pouted.
'I thought it'd be nice to be friends. I mean, our encounter seems to be like fate pairing us up together. Who knows, maybe we'll be a match made in heaven?'
She said, with a bright smile.
'So, Akane, why're you out so early?'
Since she used my first name, I used hers. Akane didn't seem to mind.
'I should asking you that.'
'No, but I asked you that.'
'I'm on the Student Council. How about you?'
I paused. I was going to say something unnecessary but I decided to ask a question instead.
'You're on the School Council? Wasn't the first proper school day yesterday? How'd you manage?'
Akane didn't seem too content on answering my question. She did so regardless.
'Let's just say that my family has influence and I have to live up to the family name.'
She spoke in a low tone.
I shouldn't have asked her that.
The girl stopped. Looking up, I noticed where we were at. We came to my destination, the faculty room. It's a win but... I wasn't paying attention to the route!
