The car was silent after Skylar made that statement. Diana was scared to talk, afraid that Skylar will think of her as stupid. She doesn't realize but she was already falling for Skylar more than she imagined she would, to the point of doing a quick self appraisal to see if she was of the right etiquette.
"Why do I have to keep a low profile too?" Diana has been wanting to ask this question for long now. She always forgot to bring it up and now seemed like the perfect time. She just couldn't bear with the silence, it was nerve racking.
The reason Skylar had not revealed himself as the owner of the company he laboured hard for, all boils down to the vipers confraternity. The head of the confraternity and his companions are nothing but greedy fools. While giving him the flimsy excuse that they needed him to take care of the underworld business, they plotted to use his hard work for their own selfish gain. While he was taking care of the underworld, some members of the confraternity will oversee the happenings of the company, that was the plan.
The Skylar at that moment was ever so trusting of them that he didn't think of it too much and let them do their thing, they saved him and provided for him after all, so why not?. Little did he know that his trust will be broken to pieces when he mistakenly overhead some members talking about how foolish and gullible he was to let them trick him into leaving the company in their hands.
"And to think he is one of the most feared persons in the confraternity" the first man spoke.
" I guess he's all brawn but no brains " the second man said while chuckling.
" I don't think so. Remember when we were having problems with acquiring land from the north region?, he was the one who devised the plan on how to acquire it. I still get chills thinking of how he thought of that in minutes" the third man said while rubbing his arms, he was the youngest of the three.
"You're right! The look on Mr James face when we showed him the papers of ownership cracks me up till now. He thought he was the most badass mafia lord, but he was stripped of everything within seconds" the first man said.
" That's enough" the second man said clearly displeased by all the praises Skylar was getting. "No matter what he has done, it only proves that we are still smarter than him. Tch, he trusts too easily"
Skylar felt suffocated. He couldn't listen anymore so he turned to leave.
"We will be siphoning more funds into the paper factory in Spain. T.I and his men will take of the necessary arrangements." Skylar halted at the sound of this. He knew the paper company they were speaking of.
The fact that they were confidently siphoning funds from his company so clumsily to a place of his knowledge shows how stupid they thought of him as. He was their puppet but he will change the tides and they will have no choice but to dance to his tune.
Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me, and Skylar would prefer to be damned to hell than to let anyone walk on him ever again in this lifetime.
If anyone finds out that he got a secretary, by all means they'll hunt Diana down and try to use her as their puppet. They will corner her and try to use her to get classified documents. He was not ready to take the chance, it was his enemy's daughter after all. Even with all the affections she's showing towards him, he was almost sure that if placed in a tight situation, Diana will prolly indulge in their requests. She only thinks about her self.
But will he tell Diana all this? The answer was NO!.
Diana was no longer fazed by the fact that he treated her like wind. The thought of it made her chest tighten in a way it has never before, and before she knew it she was welling up already.
'No Diana, you can't cry.' she reprimanded her self. She was never one to cry, but this was just too much. She felt like she was up against a brick wall, she can't get to Skylar no matter how close he is.
They were almost close to her house, and the more Diana thought of how the day will end with her making a fool of her self, the more heavier her heart became and the more the urge to cry came forth. It was all foreign.
"I believe this is your residence miss Diana" Skylar said once they stopped in front of Diana's house.
For the first time Skylar saw Diana completely mute, it rubbed him off in the wrong way.
Diana was about to open the car door when she had a change of heart. Her heart felt heavier than before and she knew she had to get it off her chest else she won't be able to sleep tonight.
"Do you think I'm a joke? Do you see me as foolish?"Diana turned to ask Skylar and the next thing she knew a lone tear escaped her eyes.
"I've been following you around, doing things I've never done and you trample on me like I'm nothing. I'm I that undesirable" Diana said this time sobbing louder. She looked like a child whose favorite toy was snatched from her.
Skylar was taken aback by the sudden outburst. It brought back memories. He remembered comforting her when ever she cried or get bullied and he wanted to that again. To his enemy's daughter.
He took out a handkerchief and handed it to Diana without uttering a word, not because he didn't want to say anything, but because he didn't know what to say with the kind of sentiments he feels towards her.
Diana dabbed the handkerchief on face and looked at Skylar.
"I'll make you fall for me, Skylar. Mark my words" Diana said before going out of his car.
Skylar sat still wondering if she meant what she said. Her words shook him up a little. He was about to started the engine and was about to drive when Diana got back into the car.
She looked at him as if contemplating something and before he knew it their lips were touching.
Skylar sat stockstill until Diana disengaged their lips. A small blush crept up her cheeks.
"Good night Skylar, dream of me." Diana said before she ran out of the car.
Skylar just sat there staring at Diana's back as she ran to her house. He watched her with no emotions on his face, his eyes lurking something dangerous behind it.
Diana just kissed him and he didn't know what to feel.
