" Is that all? " Clark asked Diana as he finished loading their stuffs in the boot. The companies involved in the project were going on a trip to the site where the island is to be built on.
"I think I'm done, just a few things that'll sit with me in the car." Diana replied.
She opened the back seat door and saw Skylar already seated already while working on his tablet. 'What a workaholic!' Diana thought to her self.
Diana scooted right next to Skylar leaving no space between them. Skylar looked at how close they were, and it made him uncomfortable.
"Would you please sit at the other end of the car?" Skylar said without removing his gaze from the tablet.
" Why?" Diana asked as she bent even further to see what he was working on.
"Can't you see I'm working or are you blind?. Please make your self useful by staying out of my way" Skylar said while gritting his teeth. Her closeness were doing things to his body.
" I thought we..."
" This is not the time to play your stupid games. We are going on a serious trip and I have things to sort out before meeting with the other companies" Skylar said, his voice plain as ever. He knew she was going to mention ninety days and what not but he was not in the mood for that.
Diana moved to the other end of the seat and kept shut while occasionally stealing glances at him. Clark took that as a clue to get in the car and soon they were hitting the road. They arrived sooner than expected due to Clark's excellent driving skills.
They met the other four companies already waiting for them. The Darwin natural beddings has no business with the site ; they just needed to make suitable and perfect beddings for the customers, so they were not needed now.
They all lodged at a hotel where they'll be staying for the night before going to check the site tomorrow.
Diana texted Paula that she has arrived at the hotel already but won't be meeting them until dinner. She knew her dad was here as well but she didn't bother to text him.
Since Skylar's identity was confidential for the main time, the last floor of the hotel was reserved just for him and his staff, while the other companies randomly selected a room.
Pauline has been looking through the window occasionally since she arrived. She resembled an eighth grader hiding from her crush but still wants to see him.
She saw Diana walk in with Clark and another guy who was wearing dark sunglasses. She presumes he was the guy she saw in the car the other day. She didn't see his face clearly again, but whatever. If she's here, she'll surely see him one way or the other.
Time for dinner arrived and they all gathered to the reserved hall where they'll discuss some things over dinner. All except Skylar and Diana were present.
"Please take your seats, there is a lot that needs to be discussed" Everyone took their seats at Clark's statement with Pauline looking at her shoes like it was a treasured discovery.
When every where had quiet down Clark proceeded to say "as we all know, this project is a big project for everyone seated here including the Fisher company. Everyone has eyes on this project. Competitors, the masses, and even the government, hence to avoid sabotage, secrecy is needed. With this said the Fisher company want you to sign a document of secrecy, what ever happens here remains here, what ever you see remains here, what ever you hear remains here. I expect you to know to what context this document entails" Clark passed the document to each and every one seated there.
* In Skylar's room *
As usual Skylar sat in front of his laptop watching everything unfold in the hall but there is a noisy person next to him. For some reason Diana decided stay back with him at the last minute.
Right now she was seated next to him whispering what she thought about everyone seated in the hall.
" Did she need to whisper " Skylar thought, there was only two of them in the room. Maybe she thought they were on a secret mission with how low she was whispering, but Skylar didn't say anything. Infact he found it cute. Observing seemed somewhat interesting this with a certain somebody by his side.
Every where went silent when the screen showed her father's face. Diana had something to say about everyone seated there but she had only bad things to say about her father.
"I have a question to ask you" Diana said this time louder. Skylar turned to face her to see what she had to say.
"Why did you give my father the contract, was his proposal that good? I doubt that "
" Why do you doubt it?" Skylar asked clearly interested in what Diana has to say.
"Nothing really, just be careful of that man, he's really shady."
Skylar didn't need anyone to tell him not to trust Mr Sylvester. But what Diana said was correct, the Q and C enterprises where one of the few candidates he had in mind but then it went to Mr Sylvester and the owner went missing. If that is not shady, then Skylar didn't know what was.
He turned back to the screen and glared at the image of Mr Sylvester signing the document Clark handed to him. He had that irritating smile in his face which made Skylar wonder what will happen if he shows his face to Mr Sylvester. Will he be shocked?, will he play safe by pretending to not know him?, or will he not recognize him?.
It was time to find out.
"Where are you going?" Diana said as she walked fast to match his pace.
" To the hall " Skylar said, his hands in his pockets.
Diana walked at his pace but a leg slower, she was following him at his back like the secretary she was.
By the time they reached the hall every one was seated including Clark. They've all finished signing and were wondering what they were waiting for to proceed with dinner. One thing everyone noticed that was odd was the two empty seats at the table. One by the head and one by the right side next to the head of the table.
"Good evening everyone!" Skylar crisp voice echoed as he walked to the head of the table and sat down. Diana did the same while glancing at familiar faces, the twins and her father and Jordan, the proud guy she met at the party.
While everyone was wondering who this person was, Mr Sylvester was staring keenly at him, and Skylar wasn't losing this staring contest.
