"Good morning miss Diana!" Clark greeted when he saw Diana walking towards him. Today was officially her first day at work. He came to pick her up.
"Don't worry Clark" Diana said hurriedly seeing Clark walk to open the door for her. She went to the passenger seat and got in. It's not like Clark was her personal driver anyway.
They used the special passage created for Skylar when they arrived. They can't risk anyone seeing her for now.
Diana understood that Skylar needed to hide - not that she completely understands, but why does she have to hide as well. I thought they came up with a story. Why does she need to hide ?
The way Diana saw this, she could never grasp what this man was thinking.
They got to the last floor and Diana was shocked to not see a living soul there. The walls were white and that was it. It seemed like this man hated colors. She kept on passing empty offices on her way to Skylar's office. No one was really here.
" Mr Fisher can't be seen so... " Clark tried to clarify.
" I understand. But what I don't understand is why he has to be this low key. I mean it's his company for goodness sake " Diana didn't mean to complain, but she just couldn't hold it in.
Clark just kept quiet afraid he'll say what he was not supposed to say. That will get him in big trouble.
"Wait here..."
Clark said as he knocked on Skylar's door.
"Come in" Skylar said once he heard the knock on his door. He has been awaiting their arrival.
"Miss Diana has arrived" Clark reported after he bowed to greet Skylar.
"Let her in" Skylar said as he left whatever he was doing and laid lax on the chair.
" WOW! just WOW! " Diana muttered. She even needed permission to come to her work place. That was when she concluded that Mr Fisher wasn't trying to keep a low profile. That might be one of the reasons but she was sure something else was involved. She's not entirely dumb to not know that.
Diana heard what Skylar said and so she did not wait for Clark to inform her and just walked in.
"Good morning Mr Fisher" she greeted after she stepped into the office.
"Hmm" Skylar replied her greeting with a thoughtful gaze.
"These are the works you need to sort out before today ends" Skylar said as he pointed to the heaps of paper work piled up from the floor to his desk. And the fact that it was in three rows didn't make it any much better.
Diana stared at Skylar shockingly. She knew nothing about being a secretary but she did not imagine this workload. Surely they must be so much to do , come on it's the Fisher Corp but... this is too much.
" D-did you just say today?" Diana asked just in case she was having hearing problems.
" You can't do it? " Skylar asked in a challenging tone. " Then don't, that's the door " he said dismissively.
Her hearing was fine.
Clark just stood by the side cursing his fate. He was so relieved that he'll have less workload but it seems Mr Fisher had other plans. To top it off, those paper works aren't really important and if you're efficient enough you'd be done in four hours. Just that he didn't trust Diana's ability. As simple as the task maybe, Diana has no experience in working talk less of doing the strenuous duty of a secretary. He already accepted that he wasn't really getting any break , but he changed his mind again after Diana spoke ;
"And who says I can't do it?. I was just shocked at the amount of paperwork that's all" Diana said with confidence although she was breaking inside.
"That's wonderful. I've arranged your desk it's just right there " Skylar pointed towards the desks that was adjacent to him. Diana was happy he didn't put her outside the office, this way her plan of working here will not be in vain. She could get close to him without any obstacles. Just her and him. It sounded perfect to her.
"I'll be going out for a meeting. If you're as efficient as you claim you are, then you must be quarter way through by the time I return" Skylar said. He stood up, picked his suit jacket and left the office with Clark.
...
The fact that Skylar wanted to be low key
doesn't mean a few important people in the company doesn't know his identity. Some are members of the confraternity while others are one of the most important members of the shareholders. They influence the decision making of other board members. With their help, he has kept the media attention away from digging into the identity about the owner of the Fisher Corp and most importantly, other board members.
"I'll be meeting Mr Simon and Mr Kurt at the usual place. I'll go alone so you go fetch some coffee and snacks to go along with it" Skylar said when he and Clark entered the car. Clark gave a nod and started the car engine.
They got to the place. It was a bungalow. A well furnished bungalow where members of the confraternity residing in LA usually meet up, away from the burning eyes of others. It was hidden just like Skylar's house, just that it was located in the city, while Skylar's was located on the outskirts of the city.
They both got inside and were faced with the two men that seemed to be in a heated argument. Skylar's presence brought calm in the midst of the argument.
"I'll just go get some refreshments" Clark said before walking out on the trio. He already knew what they were talking about and he didn't want to be a part of it this time around.
"Hello," Clark said as he answered the phone call from the head of the confraternity.
"How is everything on your side?" the old man asked, his voice raspy due to old age. He was well over eighty.
"Everything is going on smoothly" Clark replied in a solemn tone. He was not ready for this conversation.
"Did you instruct Mr Simon and Mr Kurt about the change in the plan "
" I did sir, before Skylar and I came out of the office I looked for an opening to inform them ." Clark replied.
"That's good" the old man was about to hang up the call before Clark spoke;
"There is a little problem. We came in on them arguing about the change in plans and I think Mr Fisher will catch on sooner or later" Clark said while he slumped his shoulders.
"Those old fools. I'm sure they'll come up with something, but we can't underestimate Skylar so keep a close eye on him. He's like a ticking bomb" the old guy said grumpily, before saying again;
"Stand straight boy, I have eyes every where and that is not the kind of attitude you should be seen carrying! ".
Like he said, he had eyes every where and he saw when Clark slumped his shoulders in nervousness.
"Yes, grandfather" Clark said hurriedly as he corrected his posture. The line was cut off after that.
Clark sighed and headed to go get the coffee as he had been instructed. He came out of the coffee shop with the orders on his hand when a young lady bumped into him .
Pauline looked up at the man she had just bumped into.
"I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to" Pauline said as she blew on the man's hand. It got burnt by the coffee he was holding.
Pauline held his hand and raised her face to see that it was Clark whom she had bumped into. She didn't recognize him at first. But when she saw him, the pieces came together. He was Clark. The one whom Diana met at the hotel. The assistant of Mr Fisher.
Just then something clicked
She picked up his hands again, this time the both of them, and it was not there.
The tattoo was not there!
