Chapter 2 - You Win Some You Lose Some

Ryan quickly began adjusting to his surroundings and he noticed a red and orange tortoise with black flames on its shell crawling towards him, he also heard a voice come from the building "Hurry Up Kid, your supposed to be helpin' me in the forge today"

He turned around to find the voice came from an angry middle aged man, Ryan just followed him inside to find a room that was illuminated by what looked to be a medieval forge with bellows attached and across the room were all different contraptions such as an anvil, grindstone and that thing with oil he forgot the name of.

Apart from that there were multiple small tools hanging from the wall and a circular table with strange drawing glowed in the middle of the room, he was then called "Watch how I do this cause your next"

The man then opened a cupboard and took out a black-metallic bar "Today we're starting off with basic swords, then will move on to other things" He then grabbed a medieval hammer and some tongs.

He then placed them all on the empty table sitting in the corner of the room. Next he picked up a box of coal and threw it into the furnace causing the flames to roar louder, he then grabbed the metal bar with the tongs and put it in the fire.

The man continually alternated between checking the temperature and using the bellows to heat the furnace up hotter until he used the tongs to take out the bar and place it on the anvil and he began hammering it "Make sure to hit it evenly and accurately"

He then hit it shaping it more before placing it back in the furnace, this process was repeated until a well-shaped blade was in front of him, he then placed in back in the forge one more time before taking it and dipping it in the oil until the flames were gone and he placed it in water to cool for a couple minutes.

He then used the tongs again to hold it against the grindstone that he got Ryan to spin, the man lifted and placed it in different parts until it was very sharp causing him to nod and take it to the glowing table "This is a ruin table, we became completely broke to get it"

The man then opened a draw underneath the bench and pulled out a silver object with a protruding rune, the man dipped it in a golden dusty stuff and pressed it on the sword having the rune appear on the sword.

He then pointed and said "This rune increases sharpness and prolongs the time it stays sharp, very useful"

He then attached the handle, guard and that back bit, he then took the sword and waved it, nodded and hung it up before telling Ryan to start to which he did.

Ryan has been bored one time/entire month and decided to learn blacksmithing so he nailed the process until it came to the rune bit and he asked for help in which the man provided writing with ink what each one did on the back.

Ryan thought for a while before going for a handy one called "Vibration", what would this do to help you ask, well with enough vibration one can cut through steel with a blunt rod.

He then dipped it and went to press it down when he was stopped "Prepare yourself, it takes energy" This was a bit vague so Ryan took it lightly and pressed it down.

As soon as it made contact he felt his energy quickly draining until he was completely exhausted, this was in a matter of two seconds and the man nodded "Rune forging converts your energy and then uses it to perform the rune's purpose, not everyone has the talent or stamina to perform it, well done" The man put his hand on Ryan's head and smiled showing the first sign of affection Ryan had seen.

"Don't worry you can rest while I forge so we can take turns" The man was much nicer now seeing the impeccable talent Ryan had, he even planned to let Ryan keep his first sword.

As the man created the next sword he explained a couple things "Every second you last stamping the rune the more powerful that rune is, for example I had four seconds on the sharpness, a normal sword could go blunt in a week, a 1 second rune could last it a month, 4 would last it two years when used normally and a normal bronze sword could cut through even cryorite, the stuff we use to make swords out of, it makes much more profit since it is actually quite rare and expensive"

Ryan nodded except he'd never heard of cryorite so he just assumed it was a metal of this world, they already had runes and flame tortoises, when the next sword was done the man brung back the first sword Ryan made and took it to the runes table "Although it is extremely rare let's still see if you have the talent of multi-runes" and he handed another rune stamp labeled melting "Don't worry if you don't have it nothing will happen"

Ryan just shrugged and placed the stamp instantly feeling the fatigue until he couldn't take it anymore two seconds later, the man looked absolutely dumbstruck before hugging Ryan "Ha, My Son can actually use multi-runes, I guess we'll just have to see his limit"

The man then sat down and rested with his son on the chair before getting back at making a sword and once again using sharpness before attaching to its handle.

Ryan then placed the sharpness rune and it worked again, they did this process for an unknown amount of time before Ryan failed, The man was in awe, in total Ryan had placed five runes which was classed as mythical talent after all it was not something you could learn but just up to chance.

The sword had the enchantments of vibration, melting, sharpness, Durability Increase and electricity each a 2 second enchant.

Just from the fact that there was multiple enchants the sword was worth 2 Gold Bars, the currency system in their current location worked like this:

10 Coins equals a Bar, 100 coins or 10 bars equals a higher tier coin

Iron Coin and Iron Bar

Copper Coin and Copper Bar

Silver Coin and Silver Bar

Gold Coin and Gold Bar

Platinum Coin and Platinum Bar

Royal Coin and Royal Bar

Even the royal palace only had a single royal bar, in materials the iron coin is equal to a dollar so he just made 20 million dollars in a sword, he now understood his supposed father's extreme happiness.

The man then said "Okay, I really want to but I'm not going to sell the sword instead you can keep the sword as a memento or something" Before he continued talking a opening and shutting of a door in a room behind another door occurred "Looks like you mother's home"

Ryan was then taken with his father through a door into a shop like room where a woman stood, another feature was a cooling staircase up to another room, the woman spoke "How did Ryan do today?"

Ryan realised that was the first confirmation his name didn't change, he felt his dad nudge him and point at the sword he held, Ryan realised he was supposed to speak so he did "This is what I made today"

He held the pitch-black sword that held five golden markings out seeing the lady's eyes scanning across the sword, a shocked expression appeared on her face "Five runes, top notch level, well I guess my son is a blacksmith"

She then took the sword and admired it before noticing something and walking into the back yard, she turned to the tortoise "I f*cking told you to use your flames in the forge, you poisoned my son's achievement by forcing him to use regular flames" She kicked the creature obviously having no effect

Ryan was confused but his father told him "It is a devil flame tortoise, it is one of your mother's tamed beasts and it has the ability of black flames which when used to forge a sword completely upgrade the quality

fifteen-fold, they also can be used to burn any temperature up to 7,500°C.

Ryan now felt very annoyed about how much energy he had spent to make a good sword and he could've taken a sort cut, his entire life was making the best product in the shortest time and least effort, he'd failed all three.

He then turned to his father "Okay, I'm going to sell this sword and make another tomorrow" His dad looked surprised before smiling

"I guess you want the money, by the way the rune table costed a platinum coin and that was practically our life savings, you made..." He then pulled out his fingers and put up one after the other until he got to five "A fifth of a platinum coin"

It looked like the world was developed but not enough that quick maths was a thing, Ryan planned to develop the world at an insane rate until he was back to the modern era starting by creating high tech equipment.

He then asked and was allowed to take another block of cryorite considering he made 40 times the cost of a bar which costs $500,000 back in his old world.

He then, under the permission of his parents grabbed the tortoise and placed it in front of the forge "I want a steady 1000°C"

The tortoise then began spitting out flames and Ryan used the tongs to put the bar in the forge, he then left it in for a little before taking it out and splitting it using a chisel to make multiple chunks, his plan you ask? A pistol that uses runes to replace gun powder and bullets.

He then efficiently used pieces to first make tools for better accuracy before making tiny pieces such as the trigger and a back piece that will then hit the back of the barrel to trigger the runes.

He then created the shell and shaped the barrel. Just as said the metal was extremely durable and strong so he moved on to the runes.

In the barrel part he used two enchantments over the course of an hour, these were flame condense and electricity condense.

The outcome is a ball that perfectly fits in the barrel and is just straight flames and electricity, to propel it the lever has a force magnification rune that pushes it further at speeds faster than some shot gun and rifles, the best part is that there is absolutely zero recoil, just for the sake of it he even placed a durability enchantment on the outer shell, barrel and trigger.

This took him through the entire night and daybreak fell but Ryan had to make one last enchantment on a rod like item, this was melting, he then used this to weld the parts together and held it out, he then went outside and fired it, this was completely silent, he then began testing and worked out there was a 0.5 second cool down and that was as strong as a regular bullet, obviously if left it will condense and strengthen.

He then heard his name being called and went inside, realising it came from upstairs he went up the winding stairs to find that there was a hallway with an open door at the end.

He walked towards it and found a set table and a kitchen, his mum turned there "Time for breakfast" She then took a closer look "You didn't sleep last night, were you doing blacksmiths stuff or something"

Ryan just nodded and pulled out a black pistol "I invented this"

The lady had a funny look on her face and laughed"What do you do with that, throw it"

"No I'll demonstrate,he opened the windows and aimed at a neighbouring brick house and fired causing damage to appear through the entire roof " That's what it does"

"Okay, we didn't do that, Ryan I'm very proud"The lady smiled before saying under breath "I've wanted to get back at them for a while now"

She then served the food and his father walked in, sitting down and digging into the eggs and bacon that sat on his plate, Ryan followed suit having to adjust to having the stomach of a twelve year old.

His mother immediately began talking "Did Ryan show you what he made?"

"No"

"Ryan show him"

Ryan pulled out the pistol "I call it a pistol, when this button is pressed, it propels a ball of electricity and fire at extreme speeds easily killing humans"

The man looked dumbstruck, having nothing to say he just said "Well done, Son"

Next Ryan planned to create the best sword out there, the Japanese katana and teach the creation method to his father to get rich quick.

So he ate quickly, he was about to leave when he was told something by his mum "Ryan I know you've always wanted to be a beast tamer but you can only do one activity and yours is blacksmithing"

Ryan didn't even know he could become a beast tamer, it would have helped so much, well whatever.
