Bree took a step back, flustered by the sudden thanks. “It’s… it’s really not a big deal. You don’t need to thank me for that. I wanted to help.”
Dallas looked at her gravely. “You didn’t have to do anything. You could have let the pup remain injured.”
The intensity of his gaze was overwhelming, but strangely, Bree found that she liked having all of the Alpha’s attention on her. She laughed nervously, unsure why she would be feeling that way, and tried to ignore how close Dallas had gotten as he studied her.
“No, I couldn’t have. That would have been cruel.”
“No one would have expected you to do otherwise,” Dallas pointed out. “No one would be the wiser.”
“I would have known,” Bree said. “I had the power to do something; I couldn’t just stand by and not do it.”
“Yeah,” Dallas said softly, “I guess you’re right.”
“Are you going to let me help you figure out who did this, then?” Bree asked. “If it was a witch, I might be able to give you some hints.”
