It was all done. Human civilization was losing against the tech savvy and all powerful supernaturals. And if the war went forward like that, the human beings would simply be extinct from the world. And that's when they did what was believed by the strategists to be the single brilliant move that turned the tides into their favor. They ran away.
It was the fight or flight instinct and it was the flight that overcame the flight and rightfully so. Because that gave them time. Valuable time to prepare and possibly fight back when they are ready.
And this was simply the right time to do such a thing. Why? Because, even though things looked all fine and dandy in the supernatural camp, they were having an intense in-fighting. Factions, those believed that they should be the ones that rule over the new Earth, were formed. Vampires, werewolves, dragonoids, fairies and elves formed the five main factions that fought for the throne. There was the sixth zombie faction, but since there were just a few who could function normally, they were casted out and mainly used by battling factions as cannon fodder.
This infighting… It wasn't just something that stemmed out because humans went into hiding. Well, it could be considered the tipping point of it, but the fight was always meant to happen. It just so happens that humans managed to run just as when the five factions decided to backstab each other.
So, the war, rather than being an everyone vs humans war, it turned into an everyone vs everyone war and that meant that there were a lot more casualties for all the sides that participated in this.
And this lasted for around ten years or so. And these ten years were ample amounts of time for the humans to make a comeback. It was in the least expected moment of the war that the humans came out of hiding. When the supernaturals realized it, they tried mobilizing all the factions under the one banner like before, however it wasn't something that was possible.
And somehow, humans were able to stand toe-to-toe with the supernaturals. How, you ask? Well, they used their intellect to triumph over them.
It was a step by step process. The first species that the humans targeted was the werewolves since they had their moments where they went berserk. So, on a night when the full moon shone brightly, the humans went on a werewolf hunt. They captured all the berserker werewolves with the help of a collar that induced a psychotic drug whenever the werewolves tried attacking humans. It was a great success as they were able to subdue almost half of the warring werewolves in a single night.
If it ended that way, no werewolf would've held a grudge against the humans because it was a war and it was necessary while in war to use the sort of tactics that would give you an upper hand especially when you are an underdog. But being that the humans were selfish people with a nasty superiority complex, they decided to do the same thing that they did back in the day when humans warred with each other. They made the werewolves as slaves and made them fight their own kin under the influence of those psychotic drug.
Well, sure. One could argue that these sorts of things are common practices when it comes to war and stuff, but not to the werewolves; in fact, not to any one of the supernaturals. After all, they simply treated their opponents in a rather respectful manner—they either killed them on the battlefield, which was like the greatest honor that a soldier could receive, or so they're told, or they took people as war prisoners. So, this pissed off quite a number of supernatural beings, to the point that they thought of joining together to dispose of human beings for good. But still, the problem here being that they still couldn't trust each other and this was something that humans took advantage of.
One way or the other, humans started conquering all the factions. Everyone had their share of weaknesses. Even vampires were suppressed into their bat forms and stuff. It seemed as if humans were slowly but steadily returning back to their position as the alpha species of planet Earth.
But, in came dragonoids who stood in their way of making that dream a reality. Them being basically dragons, it was difficult for the humans to even hold a candle to them when it came to sheer power. They couldn't do the mental warfare with them as well since they were quite proud creatures who didn't bow down to anyone but the ancient dragon.
And it wasn't just the forefront that the humans were losing at that point. Little did they realize that the werewolves were slowly gaining immunity from the psychotic drug that they were just abusing it on them. So, they were losing the battle all over. And the werewolves were quite angry, so the bloodshed was quite gruesome to see.
It came to a full cycle. The rise and fall of human civilization. They were the strongest of them all, then suddenly became the weakest, then they went to hiding, only to come out as the strongest and then get compromised again only to just get wiped out of the face of the planet. It's been a rollercoaster of a ride for them and it seemed like that was the end of it.
