Chapter 12 - Chapter 12- A worthy explanation?

He sat there for far too long, playing with my hair. My best bet was that he was trying to cough up an explanation. I got bored so I looked over at Carlos sitting about 20 feet away from us, he cocked his head curiously at me, no matter what Koi says, this monster was still my best friend. And he never failed to make me smile. I felt and heard Koi take a deep breath before sighing loudly, this should be good.

"Before you start, don't put it past me to ask a lot of questions, I want the full story."

I looked up at him and he nodded before going over to Carlos and setting me on the ground, he sat down himself, forming a triangle. At least he was being considerate of Carlos' curiosity as well, if he could really understand us.

"When I was much younger, I had just found out about my… I don't know 'powers', my parents as you would expect were originally shocked, but they still loved me entirely the same, as for the rest of my family and close family friends, they were none too pleased, they practically resented me."

"How could they have the ability to resent you if they knew your powers? You could kill them or worse."

"I'm getting there. They would often take me to pack doctors, astrologists and other weird individuals in the hope of having me 'cured'. Practitioner after practitioner, nothing worked, so they gave up, or so I thought."

I almost cringed at how corny that last part was. I feel like I'm in a movie cutscene, I tried to play the story through my head, like when you read a book and you try to visualise the scene, I hope I'm not the only one that does that.

"We were at a large ball, or family reunion thing, I'm not sure what it was but it was important, I was talking to some of my friends, who didn't know what I was, when I saw someone looking at my mother too much for my liking, my Dad noticed and motioned to subtly moved away to start a new conversation. The man seemed to move with them, always far away but close enough and frequent enough to be seen as suspicious. I ignored it and kept talking to my friends thinking it was of little importance, but about thirty minutes later he stabbed my mother with a knife, she was soon taken to the pack doctor through the chaos. I was absolutely shocked, and as you could imagine angry, the guy was taken away by officials and warriors, we soon found out that my aunt had hired him to kill my mother, this was soon after the party at the pack house. My mother survived but was in hospital for a week. The knife had been coated in wolfsbane and made out of silver so it slowed the healing process."

I was actually fully intrigued in this story now, I almost forget that it was real, I was starting to feel bad for him but not enough to excuse him from his recent actions.

"We questioned my aunt and locked her in the cell, she was sentenced to death for attempting to hurt my mother, she was the Luna of the pack, my Dad being the Alpha. Her excuse? She said she wanted to put her out of her misery, something about being cursed after giving birth to a monster. I was hurt but overall unfazed, it was my mother I worried about. It was later announced that the entire family and group of family friends had known about the whole thing and had overall agreed to it, making them accusable for attempted murder as well. The only ones who hadn't been involved were the obvious ones such as the Beta, Gamma and other warriors who we trusted. We banished the rest of them, making them rogue."

"Whoa."

He looked at me amused, I was sitting with my legs criss-cross applesauce and was leaning in like a child listening to an old fairytale. He shook his head and continued.

"It was then that I realised the true intentions of the people around me, my mother came out of the hospital soon with a full recovery, and I vowed to protect her and the faithful of my pack. I held a little event and showed everyone what I was, we were quite a large pack. I listened as people made snarky comments, soon people were throwing things at me, but a large majority of the pack actually respected me, someone made a rather rude remark towards my mother, calling her a whore, claiming she had her way with the Devil and brought this curse upon our pack, so I held up my hands and all the unfaithful dropped to their knees, clutching their ears and stomach, I killed them from the inside out, once they were dead, black liquid spilt from their mouths."

I thought about the black liquid that had been used to turn Carlos into a monster, it was still biologically connected to him since he used his powers to somehow infest people and kill them so it made sense.

"Smart little girl, aren't you my love?"

I froze and looked at him, he was smirking and had a devilish glint in his eyes.

"I did this for a reason, to show people my power, to show people what I can do, at the moment only the people of my pack know about my powers, and the people who have seen Carlos in the wild will soon realise the extent of my power, they will bow down to me and those who do not are not welcome in my world, I will rid this world of the human race and people will be happy, you will be there to rule with me."

"That's not how this works, you can't just have a dream and expect everything to turn out all cupcakes and rainbows like a Disney movie, you really expect this to work?"

He smiled, he was really confusing me.

"Charlie? Charlie help me!"

I almost screamed, I looked over to Carlos, he was still sitting there looking at me like a puppy. I shook my head and regained composure, looking straight into Koi's eyes, only Koi wasn't there.

I stood up. I was freaked out so I turned around in circles looking for him. What the hell, I looked at Carlos to see he was starting to feel uneasy as well. I motioned for him to stand, he got up and walked over to me growling.

"C-Carlos?"

He snarled in response, stalking towards me, only he wasn't looking entirely at me. I went to turn around but he shook his head vigorously. He continued walking to me, once he reached me he pulled me towards him protectively, growling, in response there was another growl, I turned me head slowly to see what I think was Koi, but he was terrifying, his hands were pitch black and there were claws, they looks almost engraved, not coming out of his hand but a part of it.

"At least your smart sweetheart, of course I don't expect that to work, but I will rule the werewolf community, and I'm still under consideration of eradicating the human race, but for now, it's creating a safe place for people like you."

"Like me? You said you wanted a safe place for the faithful, I'm resentful if anything."

"That's entirely my fault, I made you fear me, and I'm sorry, but think about it, the way you treat Carlos, even though he's a monster, you love him all the same, you made it your life mission to bring it back to the person he loves, you saw the best in him and slowly, he's improving, that's what I want in my society, I want the people who see past the beast and look into solutions and into the heart."

It made sense, he wanted to create a safe place for the people who deserved it, this was all a test, an incredibly cruel one might I add, but it worked.

"I-I understand, but why did you have to do this to Carlos?"

He looked at me for a long moment before smiling again, he had the same fangs.

"Love, I can only do this to certain people, people bearing the marks of the devil, bearing the marks of my family, there is only one of me, I'm the only one in the world with this extraordinary power, but your friend is one of the people with their own power, with a different form, tell me, has you ever seen your friend shift?"

Oh my goddess, no I haven't.

"He is a werewolf, but his power is hidden, he knew all along what this could do to him, there has always been something inside of him, he just needed me to activate it."

He looked at Carlos and so did I, he was looking angrily at Koi, I hugged him tight. He may be a monster, but he's my monster, nothing Koi can do can take that away from me.

Was anything I knew true? I felt like everyone was revealing truths, maybe I should reveal one of my own. I broke my mother's vase once and she still doesn't know. Koi's right, there is no safe place for us, and only he could provide it. He was also right about another thing.

He knows things about power that I can only guess at, and guessing that his power could change the world, there was nothing better to do than to trust it.

Koi was going to rule the world, and I was going to be his Queen.
