Chapter 1 - Bad Day • Hitoshi Shinsou

The front door shut with a loud bang, awakening a patch of fur that took comfort in the corner of the couch. The furry feline picked his head up at the sudden loud noise that had disturbed him from his peaceful sleep, but the sound that alerted him the most was the whimpering of a voice, silent sobbing shaking their body and eyes bloodshot, probably from rubbing at them.

He jumped off from the plush couch and walked to the front door, the sight alone made his heart clench and sink. His loving girlfriend sat with her back leaning against the door with her arms crossed over her bent legs and her head resting on her arms, her sobs racking her body making it shake, her hair fell over her arms and her jacket had a few wet patches from the rainstorm that had started on her way back from work.

Hitoshi walked to her and sat next to her, he gently nudged his head against her leg hoping to get her attention away from whatever was making her this upset, after receiving no response he softly meowed which at least got his head petted. He pushed himself through the gap between her legs and her face to sit on her lap with her legs still bent, he pushed his head against her which caused a smile to adorn her sad face, but just as quickly as it came, it left in a heartbeat.

Hitoshi squeezed out of her lap and gently bit on her finger, trying to grab it in his attempt to show her that he wanted her to follow him, (Y/N) picked up on his antics and slowly got up and followed him to the living room. He led her to the couch and watched as she sat down on the soft cushions, Hitoshi jumped on the coffee table and nudged the remote towards her and to his joy she picked it up and switched on the TV. She looked towards her purple-furred feline with her eyebrow raised as if silently asking what this was for, he jumped off the table and walked towards the kitchen.

(Y/N) being confused turned her head towards the TV and slowly channelled through all the programmes, none peaking her interest as her mind was still focused on the events of the day, she heard what sounded like cutlery being used and wondered what her furry companion was up to, only to see him exiting the kitchen in his human form with two cups of a liquid in them, he handed one to her as he sat down next to her on the couch.

"How was your day?" Hitoshi asked her as he sipped on his hot chocolate, (Y/N) replied that it was anything but good, but she was grateful that her companion was comforting her in his unique way. She knew that he wasn't overly affectionate with touch, but he loved receiving it through head pats and fur brushing.

"What happened to make you come home in a sad state?" He asked being curios, usually his loving owner would come home and excitedly tell him about her day and what went on and what usually followed was him sitting on her lap and the two of them watching movies. But today wasn't one of those days.

"Just a bad day at work/school." (Y/N) answered back with taking a sip of the refreshing, warm cup in her hands.

"Do you want to talk about it?" Hitoshi inquired being genially concerned.

(Y/N) shook her head and finished what was left in her cup. She got up and told him that she was going to her room to change into some warmer clothes, he nodded and continued to watch the programme that was filming on the TV, still being worried about her.

He heard the door to her room reopen and he looked towards her, his tail twitching and his ears flickering up with his shocked expression. She wore the purple hoodie that had a kitten printed on it, the hoodie he had gotten her as a birthday present, the hoodie that brought a smile to his face whenever she wore it because it made him feel all happy inside because that was a message saying that she was his whenever she wore it, and even though the two had established their feelings for each other a long time ago, it still brought back memories of the first time they met.

Roommates were how they started out. He was a college student who needed to stay closer to the campus but couldn't find a dorm room that was levelled up to his expectation, plus the people who lived next to him would stay up all night making noise and caused an uncomfortable atmosphere. So, he looked online and to his luck, (Y/N) had been advertising a spare room she had in her house, she had rules to live by when someone moved in, but she would respect their space.

Shinso immediately replied to the post, he did some further research and found that the house was close to both his college and the nearby forest, so obviously it was in a quiet area.

The first day he came to have a look at the room he knocked on the door and when it opened, he swore his brain cells did a retake. Your beauty was the first thing that caught his eye, and he felt embarrassed once he realised you had been trying to get his attention after you opened the door, quickly apologising he greeted you and you began your tour to the room.

"Okay, here is the room, "(Y/N) said as she opened the door to a mostly empty room that contained a bed and desk, "I didn't want to decorate the room in case my roommate had a different taste than me, everything has been recently cleaned, and there is a perfect to-die-for view of the forest through the window."

And true to her word, when he looked to the window to see the beautiful valley of forests covering it up, it had a calming aura to it, and he also noticed the room smelt of the scent of lavender and floral scents, the room was just what he wanted, very spacious and he admired her for her concern for her future roommate that she had kept the place clean.

"The only rules I have are that it remains clean and also no loud parties here." She explained as she watched him move around the room as if he was already planning where he was going to put everything.

"Don't worry, I'm not much of a party person." He replied, hearing her giggle after hearing it, "Same here. Never really liked the idea of crowded places, also just this area in general is quiet and peaceful, there is a convenience store less than five minutes away, umm, what else? Oh! This area is also very safe, we've only had about two-house break ins in the last five years but mostly it is very safe, so you can sleep with your window open if you wish." She explained.

Perfect the further she spoke. So, this was in a good area, no junkies getting high in the local alleyways and no smoke entering his room preventing him from sleeping.

"I must also inform you that the local cats that live around the neighbourhood tend to sunbathe on the windowpanes, so if you're allergic, I can add the netting to the windows..." (Y/N) informed.

"You don't have to do that, I'm not allergic..." He spoke.

He sighed deeply before looking at her leaning against the door with a smile on her face.

"I think I'll take this." He said with a small smile, and he swore he could've seen her smile get bigger.

"Wonderful!"

"-shi, Toshi?"

Snapping out of his thoughts, he hummed to her response watching her walk to the couch and taking a seat.

"What's got you in such a hypnotising gaze?" She asked.

"Just thinking about the first day I met you." He spoke as he leaned his head on her lap, grabbing her hand and putting it on his head and he started running her hands through his violet locks.

"You still remember that?" (Y/N) questioned. She didn't think that he would remember that day after he had moved in with her, but she will admit that it was nice having some company other than herself around the house.

"Yes, it was the first place that felt peaceful that wasn't my old dorm." He explained remembering how his experience with his dorm had made him nauseous.

"I didn't know you came from a dorm, why did you move if it was closer?" She inquired, she knew that colleges usually accompanied their students with dorms, but she never expected it to be so bad.

"Noisy roommates, junkies next door, just a whole bunch of reasons." He listed the problems off, remembering each one clearly, he's surprised that he's not deaf with the amount of noise they had made.

"Noisy roommates, you obviously haven't heard yourself when you're in the mood." (Y/N) said with a cheeky smile on her face.

Hitoshi's breathe hitched and a pink tint warmed up his face, causing him to hide it in his lover's stomach making her giggle.

"Y-you know t-that's n-not what I m-meant!" He stuttered out.

She giggled softly as she remembered the night after they both had confessed to each other, how the night was filled with nothing but love, comfort and gentle, sensual touches amongst their bodies.

"I'm still surprised you turned out to be a neko though... Never thought I'd meet one in my life." She told him, and he lifted his head to meet her eyes, gently pecking her lips before pulling away.

"Remember when I told you?" Hitoshi asked.

"Yeah. You accidentally forgot you weren't living alone, and I caught you in the kitchen in just your cat patterned undies?" She spoke with giggling afterwards.

"I didn't forget, I just got very comfortable, which says something. Also, those weren't 'undies', (Y/N)."

It was one of those rare days where he woke up before you. He walked into the kitchen to make himself a cup of coffee, the rain pouring outside had presented a very calming aura through out the house and the warmth of the house made it ten times better.

His tail swishing behind him due to how comfortable he was in his home along with his ears slightly drooping.

"Well, well, well. This is a sight to see, Toshi." (Y/N) said as she leaned on the wall smiling.

Jumping a little, his ears on full alert and him pointing the spoon at the 'threat', he relaxed once he saw that it was you. But that smile on your face was telling him something else, and that's when he realized that he wasn't wearing his sweatpants and that his tail and ears were on full display.

"I knew you liked cats, but I didn't think you liked them this much. Now I know what to get you for Christmas." (Y/N) said as she giggled, walking to the cabinets to make herself a cup of hot chocolate since she never cared for caffeinated drinks.

"That wasn't funny." Hitoshi said as he watched her laugh.

"Yes, it was! Hey, at least you got cool cat gifts that year." She spoke as her laugh died down.

"You got me an extra pair of underwear when I already had enough. At least, the notebook was cool, and the blanket was also very soft, so thank you for that." He spoke.

"Well, at least you're prepared now." (Y/N) giggled.

"When you're smart but for the wrong reasons." Getting slapped on his shoulder, he moved to change the channel when he felt her snuggle up to him. She nuzzled her face into his neck, reaching out to gently scratch behind his ear which made his one eye squint close before he relaxed into her arms.

"You know you love me."

"Yeah, maybe I do..."
