Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

Day 1 - Day 30

The moment Grey is born, he was curious about everything. So he asked the Elemental Cat Elders about literally everything he sees, the trees, the grass, the sky, you name it as long as it was in his peripheral vision he will ask about it, and will not stop until he knows everything about it.

One time while he was staring at the clouds, he overheard from one of the Elders that the Newbie Beastmaster Contract event is happening soon. The moment he overheard that conversation, he pestered the two elders about it.

At the end of the day, the information he got from the elders about the event is that, their saviors needed companions among the Elemental Cat kittens, and whoever was picked by their saviors will be able to go out the Elemental Cat Sanctuary.

The moment Grey heard the word 'go out', he was ecstatic. Even though the Sanctuary is very big and he hasn't seen all the parts of it yet, he was more curious about the world outside, which was always talked about by the elders when they share about their adventures outside with their beastmaster before retiring in the sanctuary.

So Grey prepared for the fated day, but unlike other Elemental Cat which focused more on their physical prowess and play fighting, he prepared by widening his knowldege and watching other younglings fight.

Grey was born physically weak, so he wanted to compensate that with his wits. Through this process, he learned how Elemental Cats can maximize their fighting capabilities through making his own fighting technique. Grey tried the fighting technique that he made through watching other younglings, but the problem was, he can never do it because of his physique.

This saddened him greatly because from what he heard from the elders, their saviors are most likely to pick the strongest youngling they could find. However, he doesn't wanna give up and was determined to find a beastmaster who will take him. So instead of focusing on his fighting capabilities, he instead focused on how he can best support his would be beastmaster with his wits.

A week before the supposed event, an Elemental Cat gave birth to 2 more Elemental Cat kittens. Unfortunately, as was destined the mommy Cat died and the two babies was left on the care of the Elder Elemental Cats.

Grey, as a very curious Cat approached the two new babies, and had an idea. That is, if he can't use the fighting technique he made, what if he just taught it to others?

Because of this idea, Grey was very excited to teach the two new babies and see the fruits of all his efforts.

The next day, the moment the two babies learned how to walk on their own, Grey asserted his seniority over them and trained them according to his self made technique.

Two days after the training started, the two new kittens which Grey named Yellow and Blue, based on their fur color, just like how he named himself, because his fur color is gray, defeated almost all the other 3 month old Elemental Cat kittens.

Because of this, the two was seen as the most talented Elemental Cats in the eyes of the elders. The two however treated Grey as their older brother, despite the disparity in their strength.

3 days after, the Newbie Beastmaster Contract event finally arrived, and all the Young Elemental Cats eligible for the event was brought to a facility outside the sanctuary to be displayed in front of a hundred plus newbie beastmasters.

Grey was very nervous before they even entered the facility, all his curiosity about the outside world vanished and wss replaced by the anxiousness in the huge possibility that he may not be picked by any of their saviors because of his lacking physique. His two underlings on the other hand was clinging on him also nervous because they had never seen any of the things they are seeing now in their sanctuary.

The Elemental Cat babies was then brought by the elders accompanying them to a large pen, full of contraptions Grey had never seen. However, the other babies seem to know more than he does, because they immediately ran towards them and climbed, playing with each other.

Grey's two underlings also ran towards the biggest climbing spot and climbed to the top, they then stopped the other kittens that want to get to their territory.

Grey, though confused about the other kittens' behaviors, also climbed the territory his two underlings got, because he figured that if he's in the highest spot, he would also be easily spotted and maybe picked by their saviors. He got comfortable in his spot, unlike his two underlings which was still clawing and wrestling with other kittens wanting to take their territory.

The elders just watched on, as the kittens played. After an hour, and when the kittens finally got tired with playing, the door to the pen was finally opened. Grey, being on the highest spot was the first kitten to have a look at their saviors. His first thought about them was that, they look very weird, they have four limbs but they are only using two of them to walk.

After a few seconds, the two saviors which opened the door to the pen, let in three smaller saviors, which Grey figured was the Newbie Beastmasters he needed to impress.

Unlike the other kittens, which only looked curiosly to their visitors, Grey tried his hardest to look as presentable as possible. This made the three kids look at him, but to his dismay they lost interest on him just as fast.

When Grey saw this, though he was dismayed, he didn't let it get to him and instead studied the three saviors looking for the minute differences between them and studying them, just like what he did when he was still on the sanctuary.

Grey was ignored by all the Newbie Beastmasters that came in, this made Grey sadder and sadder because half a day already passed and not one had an interest on him. His two underlings on the other hand was picked by a lot of the saviors, however the two was too stubborn and would always be brought back to the pen when the saviors failed to contract with them.

Grey also learned a lot about the saviors in the half a day he's been studying them, one of them is knowing which of them is stronger than the other. However, he doesn't really care about the strength of the savior, as long as they would take him, he wouldn't be picky and come with them.

Even though Grey was a bit depressed, he still tried his best to look presentable to the three new saviors that came in. The moment he looked at the three, Grey's eyes already gravitated to the weakest savior he saw this day. What made him curious is that, even though this one was the weakest physically, this one's eyes which was covered by a transparent contraption of sorts, had disdain for all the kittens in the pen, like he was only forced to come there. This didn't surprise Grey, because theirs a lot of newbie beastmasters who also looked forced to come here and did not pick any of the kittens in the pen.

So Grey, which was very curious about this weak savior started to stare at him, just like he did to all the other saviors but more intense to study him. This made the Newbie Beastmaster became aware of his pointed stare, and was surprised that a brainless kitten was staring at him like it is studying him.

He also became curious of Grey, but he thought that there is no way that a kitten just a couple months old can be any close to intelligent, so he jokingly beckoned with his finger for Grey to come closer. What shocked him was that, the kitten immediately jumped off the highest spot in the kitten tower and walked curiously but cautiously towards him.

The kitten then sat in front of him and looked at him, as if its pleading for it to be taken by him.

Grey didn't want the opportunity that came to him be lost, so he made the face the other kittens did and surprisingly made the saviors like them, even though it was a bit humiliating.

Kevin didn't want an Elemental Cat for his first contracted beast because they are known to not be so smart, but seeing a smart one, made him more interested in it than getting a contracted beast which is smarter by nature.

However, he wanted to be more sure that this Elemental Cat is really smart before deciding to contract with it. So he carried it but the moment it came close to his glasses, the kitten tried to reach for it, almost scratching it.

Grey became nervous, he couldn't stop his curiosity, he's afraid that the savior in front of him would be mad at him for trying to take his thing.

In contrary to Grey's negative thoughts, Kevin became sure of his hypothesis that the kitten may be an anomaly from its race and is born more intelligent. This made him decide to take the smaller than other kittens, and has no attribute Gray Elemental Cat.
