Danica's POV
We were out in the carpark. Oscar was looking around then jumped to the roof and slipped into the shadows then watched as the door to the clinic flew open and Dean came running out. He staggered around the area his head turning as he searched for us.
Bella appeared and he staggered away his head shaking. She grabbed his hand and pointed. From up here their voices were faint.
"His car is still here that means they haven't gone far." He pulled away.
"This is… This is all wrong…" She shrugged.
"Can't help it…" She rubbed her face. "Let's just find her first." He nodded and they set off to look for us.
Oscar moved his hand from my mouth and nuzzled into my neck. He purred and I could feel his hands slide into my trousers. I gave him a look and he chuckled.
"What? You own me, and I'm not giving anyone else a share… Well… I can't do anything about Rodger…" I pulled away from him and sighed.
"So much for casual…" He shrugged.
"What? It's not like you seem to care anymore." He nuzzled to my neck again and slid a hand to my chest. I rolled my eyes. "Just go with the flow." He purred and I sighed loudly.
"I'm meant to be getting checked over by the doctor…" He nodded
"I'm doing my own checking." I pushed his hand away as he tried to slip it into my trousers. "Fine… But you know he's got eyes on you too." I shot him a look and he giggled. "Just saying." He slid forward and we dropped down from the roof.
Richard looked up as I entered the lab and he smiled weakly his gaze glancing to Oscar then back to me.
"The others went looking for you…" Oscar growled menacingly.
"I know, I'd prefer they didn't find her." Richard nodded and waved a hand.
"I can do that… please." I could feel Oscar letting his aura flow out a little and it caused Richard to squirm under his gaze. I gave Oscar a sharp nudge to his ribs.
"Behave will you." He pulled his aura back and sighed as he took a seat and watched as I entered the room Bella had been in. I let Richard put the hood on me and frowned. The little sensors dug into my skin and it was like I needed to scratch.
"Ok. I'm going to add a few stimulus to the room like smells and sounds designed to get a response from you and your wolf… this will only take a few moments…" I nodded and sighed as I waited.
Richards's POV
I sat at my desk and staired in horror at the screen. My hand trembled as I switched off the inter com and covered my mouth.
"What?" a gruff voice came from over my shoulder and I could feel Oscar's aura begin to trickle out.
"She… look." I pointed to the screen. "Her human brain is… beautiful. It's unlike any I've seen… and I've examined humans too, but this… This is on a whole other level… everything is alert and… perfect."
"She's my master, what do you expect?" I shuddered.
"Master?" My wolf whined as I sniffed his scent. "She was able to mark you?" I couldn't hide the nerves on my breath. I heard Oscar roll the seat to my side and he grinned pulling his shirt down to reveal a light patch of skin that looked like a scar. It was as if something the size of a cat ripped two inch S-shaped slices in his skin.
"What you think?" He smirked as I nodded and pushed my hair back.
"Right well… there is another problem…" I pointed to the screen. "She has no wolf… well… there are traces of a wolf that are active." I looked to the screen. "It's like her wolf was blasted to pieces and what was left has been assimilated with her human brain." I placed my hands to my mouth. "But the areas the wolf is at…" I rubbed my face. "This doesn't make sense…" Oscar chuckled.
"Would it help you to know she's an alpha?" my ears pricked up at those words and I glanced at Oscar.
"What?" He smirked.
"She's an Alpha. Even without a wolf." I felt my nerves tingle.
"Fuck…" I said slowly. "How powerful would she have been if she had a wolf." A tremble went through me, as I continued to record the examination and release more smell of the woodlands and sounds of the weather into the room.
The exam itself took an hour and I had run every last test I could think of and then some more I just made up on the spot but Danica and Oscar left once the exam had been completed. I had tried to convince them to stay wanting to run a 'comparison' between Derick's brain and Danica's but Oscar had been determined to go and get some alone time. With nothing left to do I poured myself over the results. From what I was reading from the recordings and the questions Danica had answered about her life I was getting increasingly concerned.
My phone rang and I almost hit the roof with fright. I landed on the seat but hit it oddly and it rocketed across the room and bounced off the wall.
"Hello?" I gasped as I answered.
"Hi, Richard… you sound out of it. What's the matter? I tried mind linking you, but you didn't respond." It was Mathew and I sighed.
"Oh… I was just going over the results of my examination of Danica and was lost in thought." I picked myself off the floor. "Do you need something?" He chuckled.
"You found Danica. Good… I've got Derick here at the front with Lisa for another examination." I smirked and nodded.
"So eager?" I could hear his grin on the other end of the line.
"Well, I don't know when Lisa will run away again." I smoothed out my shirt.
"I'll send someone to bring you to the lab, but Danica left about thirty minutes ago. I couldn't convince Oscar to stay and let me run a comparison." I mind linked one of my nurses.
"Dam Oscar…" I heard him shouting then hang up. With a stagger I placed my phone into my pocket and used the scent clearer in both rooms then shot through to the waiting room on the other side of my examination room. As I opened the door to the hallway on the other side of it, I saw the startled look on Mathew's face.
"Fuck!" He jumped back and looked to me. "Are you trying to give me a heart attack?" Derick chukled and patted his shoulder.
"Let's just get this over with…" Mathew nodded and gathered his nerves then gave me a look.
"Are you alright? You look like you've seen a ghost." Smiling weakly, I nodded.
"Yes… I was just looking at some… scary readings…" I shuddered thinking about the trauma Danica must have gone through. "Shall we?" Derick nodded and we entered the first exam room. I turned to Lisa as she carefully lowered herself to the seat.
"I'll wait here." She looked to her short nails and frowned. "But you better get me a manicure later." Derick sighed.
"Don't worry. We'll still make that appointment." I felt my nose wrinkle up as I led him to the examination seat.
"I'll need you to sit here." He followed and sat. Hesitantly I placed the hood on his head as my wolf was very aware this was my alpha.
As soon as I was done I scurried to the office and saw Mathew fixing my seat and staring at the monitor.
"What's that?" He pointed to the screen. I switched the recording off.
"A patients results." He narrowed his eyes and I could feel the tension. "Let's focus on the Alpha…" I switched the machine on and pulled my seat around.
Mathew sat but remained quiet as his gaze seemed fixed on me rather than the screen.
"I can smell Oscar had been here. Was… that Danica's results?" I kept quiet as I busied myself with my machine.
