Chapter 14 - Ch. 14 His Mate's Name Is...

It's been almost an hour since Lyod and Douglass circled the residential area in the mortal realm without any significant results. The sun had risen, and they began to hear that many of the householders were doing their everyday activities.

They hid behind the trees, trying not to be seen by humans. Lyod's hair was as white as snow right now, indicating he was the white Alpha of the White Bridge Pack. It wouldn't be good if the Alpha King showed up in the mortal realm without announcement in advance.

Of the many houses in this realm, there were only five that they had not passed.

"We don't have much time. We need to go back." urged Douglass to his Alpha.

"One more." Lyod climbed a tree until he reached one of the top branches, then jumped to land on the next tree and another until he arrived at his target's house.

Alas, he did not smell his mate in this house either.

'Alpha! We need to go, now!'

Lyod tsked at his beta's urgent tone and had no other choice but to follow his beta's wishes. He knew he shouldn't have appeared in the mortal realm with his identity as Alpha. If news came out that the white Alpha had entered the mortal realm secretly, the human lord would think the werewolf realm had malicious intentions towards them.

The prejudice from humans was terrifying and could threaten the peace agreement between the two realms. He shouldn't have broken the lord's trust in him as an Alpha.

In the end, Lyod and Douglass returned to the werewolf without being seen by humans.

Where does his mate live? Why didn't he smell the same scent from all the houses he passed? Was his mate not a human but an elf?

He remembered that the few remaining elves also lived side by side with humans. But… the elf couldn't possibly hold their breath underwater for long, let alone activate the portal door.

The only ones who could activate the portal door were fae, who have magic power, and some noble vampires and shapeshifters. Ordinary humans and elves could not activate the portal door unless... she were a noble elf which was ridiculous.

Most of the higher-ups and noble elves were already dead due to the five realm wars—the remaining ones were only those magicless and mix-blood elves.

"We can try again later." Douglass tried to comfort his Alpha when he saw the gloomy face, who looked like he had just lost a priceless treasure.

Douglass wanted to tease his best friend, but seeing how hard Lyod tried to find his mate to no avail, Douglass felt sorry for his Alpha.

"Whose house haven't we passed yet?"

"Hmm…let me think." Douglass tried to recall the four houses they had not passed in the mortal realm. "The Herney, the Scott, then… I don't remember. But the fourth house is the residence of the Chavau family."

"We can cross the Chavau girls. They are not my mate." Lyod remembered he had met them by accident yesterday when he came to the mortal realm after dyeing his hair black. The two of them weren't his mates because he didn't feel anything when he met them. "If I remember correctly, the Herney had no daughters."

"Right. Then there are two houses left."

"The Scott does have a daughter, but… isn't she already engaged to someone else?"

"Right. But, what if it turned out that Miss Scott was your mate."

"What is her name again?"

"Angelina Scott. The chestnut hair with round black eyes. We were in the same class with her, remember?"

Yes, he remembered her. But the scent he smelled in his room didn't match Angelina Scott's.

"How about the next door?"

"I'll find out right now."

Lyod nodded in agreement and let his beta do his job to find out who lived in the third house. Feeling incredibly tired because he couldn't sleep with the tantalizing smell in his room without being able to hug his mate, Lyod decided to go home.

This time he did not enter his room. He vowed not to enter his room until he met his mate. He would go crazy if he smelled a scent that evoked desire and passion but had no one to vent his overwhelming emotions.

He couldn't see Letti, either. Somehow, he knew that girl wouldn't be able to satisfy his wolf's desire.

Lyod entered his father's reading room, then laid down on the long white couch with his eyes closed. The day had just begun, but he felt that now was nighttime.

He hasn't started his day's activities yet, but it already felt incredibly exhausting.

Who is his mate? Where does the girl live? What is she doing now?

Trivial questions about his mate filled his head, but he couldn't get the answers.

'I've got good news, Alpha!' exclaimed Douglass through his mind-linking.

'What is it?'

'Come here!' called Doug in a teasing tone that made Lyod roll his eyes lazily. Who else but a Beta like Douglass who was able to summon the Alpha and tell him to come to his place?

Nevertheless, Lyod rose to his feet and went to his beta's house.

In the past, Lyod often went in and out of Douglass' house without knocking on the door. That was before Douglass found his mate. He often even entered through the open window or back door where Douglass' kept his hog pet.

Now that Douglass has found his true love and his mate has moved into this place, Lyod respects their privacy and no longer walks in without the owner's consent.

Knock, knock, knock!

Lyod knocked on Douglass' door three times. Not long after, a black-haired girl with pale blue eyes appeared to greet him.

"Good morning, Alpha Lyod. Please, come in."

"Good morning, Iona. Where is he?"

"He's in his study."

Iona invited Lyod to go to a room where Douglass awaited them. The grin that graced Doug's face made Lyod want to sew his beta's lips.

"How is it?" Lyod did not want to stay in this place for long and directly asked his friend about the progress in finding his mate.

"It's the Harrowcroft, and they had two daughters and one distant cousin."

"Their cousin is my childhood friend. She is a half-breed, a half-human, and half-elf.

Before this, she lived in the fairy kingdom to be with her family from the maternal side, and it was only a few days ago, she returned to the mortal realm after four years of leaving for the fairy kingdom."

BINGO!
