Something must have changed in my eyes when I said that because the farmer's eyes were lit with terror. He quickly shut them, and perspiration shone on his brow.
"I am sorry," He said. "Please leave my wife and kid out of this. They did nothing. We did nothing but give you clothes. I was even willing to let you stay with my family."
"What do you see?" I asked. "Why do I scare you all of a sudden?"
"Your eyes." He replied. "They are red like they are filled with blood. My wife was right, you are a demon."
There was no way for me to verify his words about my eyes, but I took him for his word. "You are right. You have been kind to me, that is the reason that you are still alive."
His legs quaked with fear. His wife and son had instinctively fled behind him as if he was going to be able to protect them from me.
I was curious about one thing though. "You never told me how far away your village is from here?"
