I laughed. "Experience differs. But, I am sure that the both of you knew that already."
"What is that supposed to mean?" Clara asked. "I do not know the thing that you think that we do."
"Take, for example, all of us in this room. We have all been talking amongst ourselves. We interpreted the conversation differently and would have different versions of this event in our head."
Clara gasped. "You are right. Nevertheless, her heart is dead, so she has no feelings anymore. I do not expect her to feel any empathy towards me."
Margery laughed. "My heart is still beating." Margery stood up and closed the distance between us. She picked up my hand and placed it on her chest. "Can you not feel it?"
And I did. I could feel Margery's heart thumping against her chest.
