"All hail the king," The men greeted me in unison. They fell to their knees and prostrated before me, but I was still not fully satisfied. Their loyalty meant nothing to me if they were not courageous. So, I devised a method o the spot that I would use to test their loyalty.
"Stand up," I commanded sternly. The men jumped up and stood erect in front of me. "Does anyone even know why you are here?"
The men gave themselves confused looks. None of them were sure how I would like the question replied. So, I gave them a clue. "Why are you here?"
"You promised whoever came to see you would get power like yours."
"I see. But are you ready to pay the price?" I asked.
They fell silent. Until one of them stepped forward, his skin was burnished brown, and his hair was shaved.
"What price?" He asked.
"The same price we all must pay for power, our humanity," I replied.
He was taken aback by my reply. "My humanity?" He asked.
