Chapter 14 - Cleopatra (b)

"I love drama," Cleo continued, snapping me out of my thoughts. "I wanted to be on stage with Elsie, but she refused. Too bad. She used to love drama and was often chosen as the main character. But somehow, she stopped playing the drama. Same thing when she decided to stop playing music. I just can't believe the reason. She said she was bored and wanted to quit. Even though it's a hobby that I think is suitable for her, rather than doing extreme activities every day."

"Extreme?" I asked curiously. "For example?"

"Motorcycle racing, rock climbing, fencing, archery, shooting sports, that sort of thing."

Apart from being a cheap bitch, Elsie is also wild. I just knew that.

"I think you and your twin sister have a lot of differences," I said. "You're sweeter." I flashed my deathly crooked smile, as a mainstay of the first tactic of a Casanova guy like myself, to win over his target.

Cleo laughed softly and looked down in shame. She tucked a few strands of hair behind her ear. I felt a flat object vibrate in my trouser pocket. One message came in from Tamara, which I immediately read with a few questions in my head.

//From: Tamara

I already know why you moved to Albert Einstein High School. Jaxen told me that Jo gave you orders to approach one of Thomas Cavern's daughters and kill her. Why didn't you tell me? And, hell, answer my phone.

-T//

I ignored Tamara's message first because I didn't want to make Cleo wonder about the incoming message. Damn Jaxen. How many times have I told her not to tell Tamara the reason I moved here. That girl might mess things up. Even though she's my girlfriend, I don't want Tamara to get into my troubles. Tamara is a talkative type of girl who just wants to know people's business. It's only been a few days since I caught her attention, she's already acting like my detector. If I get tired of her, I'll dump her. It feels like we've been together for four days. I'm going to dump her soon.

"What's the matter, Jace?" Cleo's soft voice snapped me out of my daydream.

"It's nothing. Let's continue your story. You have the talent to be a storyteller."

Again, she laughed shyly. Her cheeks flushed red getting my praise. She spoke again. But I didn't focus on listening to the story but looking for an excuse to explain Joseph's plan to Tamara.
