Troy woke up, slowly. And became aware of his surroundings.
–Damn. This bed is frigging soft!–
He noticed Doctor Iris snuggled close to him, her head on his chest. She looked so peaceful and beautiful. Yet all it took to ruin the moment was a glance at his watch.
7:39.
Troy stretched. Yesterday was a good ni–
7:40.
Dammit!
–Shit! I almost forgot! Today's going to be my first field exercise!–
With gentle care, he shifted his center of gravity and came out of bed without a single noise. It was a skill he had developed since he was a kid. By changing his center of gravity, he could remain balanced at all times, and never fall, unless he wanted to of course.
He gave Iris a quick kiss and left a note, apologizing for not staying for breakfast, and explaining why he was in a rush. She could afford to be late. Unless something extraordinary happens, no one might need the school nurse early this morning.
He exited her room, making sure no one saw him. He didn't have a problem with it, but Iris might. He wasn't sure if she wanted their relationship to be secret or not. Usually, that was something they'd discuss when they woke up, but he had other things to do.
A flash of light later, he was in front of his room.
Needless to say, he'd finish his business with Iris when he was done today. Now that he thought about it, getting laid with the sexy school nurse had always been one of his childhood fantasies. Not only that, he managed to–
Eh?
As he opened the door, he saw Patricia on Eddie's lap, on her bed. It seemed she was shaving his beard, if you could call a thick blanket of stubble a beard.
"Oh. Hey Troy. Where have you been?" Patricia asked. She didn't even flinch or seem embarrassed. In other words, they were getting closer, probably dating even.
"What's going on between you two? Since when did you guys start dating?" Troy asked. The envy in his voice surprised even him.
"I promise it isn't what it seems, man." Eddie said, smiling sheepishly. He knew Troy had a crush on Patricia. "We're just friends."
Troy wanted to roar, to scream: "JUST FRIENDS??!!" But he calmed himself down and instead walked to the bathroom. He used the shower and brushed his teeth at the same time. Barely ten minutes later, he was on his way out, ignoring Eddie's calls. Then he flew at breakneck speed towards the teleportation array.
"First floor!"
A flash of light later, he was on the first floor. He flew, careful to not exceed the speed of sound, but he was still fast. Too fast.
He burst into the classroom, earning a couple of glares.
"Where have you been, Mr. Troy?" Professor Nightwalker asked.
"I'm sorry, prof."
Nightwalker sighed.
"Meet your team members."
Troy sighed. This day could go both ways.
The first he noticed was the current number two: Louisa la Finesse. She had her blonde hair in a tight french braid. It was so tight that for a moment, Troy worried that her face would tear off. She was beautiful, with slender legs, further emphasized by the pencil jeans she wore. Her chest was average, but she was beautiful. Maybe because she wasn't an asshole, or maybe it was because he was way stronger than her, but she was respectful, somewhat.
"Hello, Troy Silver." She said in her french accent and curtsied, barely.
Troy gave her a bow so shallow that it might have been mistaken as him wanting to check if his shoe laces were tied.
The second on the team was, surprisingly, Threya. Maybe it was a coincidence, or maybe someone wanted the top three Cadets in the same team.
The third was a boy with an ear bigger than normal. His nationality was unknown, but he was white. He had green hair, and ears too big to be normal. His name was Sanji. Troy had no idea what his rank was, but with his ability which granted him extraordinary hearing, he had to be at the bottom of the class.
The fourth was a pink haired girl that looked like a toddler. She seemed like a Britt. She dressed like a mage, which said a lot about her abilities. She was able to control three of the major elements: water, air and earth. She was ranked seventh in the board. It was hard to imagine someone so small being a cardinal threat. Her name was Amanda.
Troy was the fifth, and their guide was a second year Cadet with black hair and long arms that were wrapped in some kind of white bandage. But as far as anyone could see, he wasn't injured. As far as everyone knew, no one knew his real name. Only his hero name: Virus.
"Finally," He said. "We better go now, I don't want to miss the evening release of my favorite anime."
Huh?
This was their guide?
They went to the ground floor, and Virus inputted their coordinates. It was a barren wasteland that had suddenly appeared in a forest in Texas. And they went through the TelePort, but not before Maki, the receptionist treated Troy to a generous amount of cake.
A flash of light later, they appeared in a forest. The cufflinks on Virus's bandaged arm was his on device. A holographic map appeared and they began heading towards their objective.
"So, have any idea what happened?" Troy asked. This cake was beyond delicious. Maki was a good cook!
"According to satellite imagery, a Lindworm has appeared."
Virus didn't get the gasps he had expected. That could mean only one thing.
"What's a Lindworm?" Amanda asked, clutching her staff.
Virus sighed. He was not looking forward to explaining himself. Thankfully, Sanji took it off his hands.
"You don't know what a Lindworm is?" He adjusted his glasses on his face. "Lindworms are evolved versions of worms. They're very huge and emit poison almost constantly. That is the reason why the forest that this one lives in is decaying." Sanji said.
Well, looks like he has some knowledge to make up for his weak ability.
"So what is our objective, Monsieur Virus?" Louisa asked.
Virus twitched.
"Were to kill the Lindworm."
